- SLOVAKIA has handed over the first four MiG-29 jets it has pledged to donate to Ukraine, with the rest of the planes to be delivered in the coming weeks, the Slovak Defence Ministry said on Thursday (March 23).
Slovakia, a NATO member on the military alliance's eastern flank, last week joined Poland in announcing the delivery of jets to Ukraine. In total, Slovakia said it would donate 13 of the Soviet-made fighter jets, which Kyiv believes are crucial to repel Russia's year-long invasion.

I appreciate how ALL the Allied Governments are now all on the same page so to speak and taking HD video of all of these events for the sake of history. Whether its the Canadian or Norwegian Leopards being loaded into C17's and AN124's... Challengers from UK, Bradleys and APCs from US, etc., etc. etc. (too many recents to even count now!)
I think its important for all of our citizens to see these images to appreciate the efforts and it is certainly a morale boost to all Ukrainians who have been fighting the good fight for over a year already.
We are going to be there for you all and need to see this through right till the end.

What a boost to be getting this stuff. I've wondered recently if UK might have to take the Tornados out of retirement. Such a lack in air force numbers makes you wonder.. Not exactly a fighter but great ground attack/ Bomber. Apparently some pilots are leaving to fly airlines because there's not enough typhoons or f35s to accommodate them. Dodgey times
The Ukranians don't have the training to operate tornadoes, and any Ukranian pilot will have to spend at least 6-8 months for training and i doubt that the Ukranians have good pilots to spare

Last time I was there we had one MIG29 already there. And we(Slovakia) did keep one for a museum.

@DJTV there are some preserved on Sliac AFB, in Piestany Museum and in Praque and in Kosice, not whole fleet was sent, as some planes were retired already longer time ago. Would be nice still, seeing one coming back from combat on display after war, with actual batlle history.

For the sake of objectivity, Slovakia has supplied Ukraine with howitzers and S-300 missiles since the beginning of the invasion. Just this endless passing of old Migs was a miserable spectacle. Happy ending though.

this mig29 might be old but is equiped with nato technologies inside so it can shoot western made missiles and bomb like Jdams or aim120
Slovakian MiG-29AS cannot carry any Western weapons, they only have a modification for better communication within NATO and have speed and altitude indicators in miles. Of course, they can be modified for HARM missiles and JDAM bombs, but they are not able to use AIM-120 etc.

It's funny that I watched these planes fly at air shows all over Slovakia since I was a teenager and I loved them and could never imagine to see them getting retired.
Now 20+ year later I could not wait to see them fly of to Ukraine. What a fitting end for this planes I could not find a better one. I hope they will be useful.
Makes sense to give Ukraine Armed forces Jets it can Operate now. While training Pilots on Western Jets. Ukraine needs to hold the line while new western equipment and training on land sea and in the air continues.
