Great video! Great information! I remember back in 1985 I traded for a 68 charger R/T, it had those plate mount traction bars on it. It had a 3.54 dana, I removed the traction bars and put the stock shock mount plates back on it, it lost traction big time! It would spin through all 4 gears with ease after removing those traction bars! Those traction bars work on mopars same as other's. Great to see things coming along! Thanks for sharing!
@@318willrun That car will haunt me for the rest of my life, when I sold it I always thought I could pick up another one, if only I'd knew what the future held! I'm left with pictures and memories of it and I have a VHS video my brother took of it. It was GG1 green, oh, the pain....the pain......
What about using the 8.25 rear axle assembly? Increased strength and still light weight. Large bolt pattern. Great content, I appreciated the weight difference comparison.
8.25 is a good choice. It is tough. If I'm going to swap, it's almost easier to find a '65-67 B-body 8.75 than a A-body 8.25. Plus, the C-clip rear ends are not as ideal, and at a certain level the drag ways won't pass inspection with them. But for this project, the 8.25 would have worked for sure.
When to swap out a 7.25? When it BREAKS. As you said, for normal everyday driving and the occasional romp, a 7.25 will take anything a warmed over 318 will dish out... outside constantly dumping the clutch at 3000 RPMs. God bless!
I know this is probably one.in a million but... In the mid 2000s, I had a 68 Dart. 318 car that eventually ended up with a fairly hot 440. 100% home built. I had an 8 3/4 housing, and built the jigs to narrow it myself. But never had the money to buy the axles. (Had about $3200 into whole car over 8yrs) It was a daily for years with the 440, anf the racing bug bit and eventually the car was able to dip into the 11s. Relocated the springs and ran it with slicks. I checked the oil level in the axle once before the car got the 440 and never touched it again. It survived!!! Life happened and the car went away, still with the 7 1/4, which never leaked, made noise, etc...
Love your opening comments...and the others who posted comments. I was going to ask about the 8.25...it was answered. Then i wondered about the magnet, laughed when someone else answered. If you had and A body 8.25 laying around would you have used it for this build?
I actually do have an 8.25 but it had 2.45 gears in it. Also, the same basic needs for the swap would have to be done for the 8.25, including a shorter drive shaft. The 8.75 allowed me to use my 2.94 gears, and also widened the stance of the rear tires. Just for the ease of the drop out center section, and no C-clips, the 8.75 will always be my preference over the 8.25.

Happy New Year 318 WR, how bout 8.75 versus 8.25? Of course 8.75 is tougher, but 8.25 can hold its own? Great video Mopar Brother. Read further? Answered
8.25 is a good rear end, was used behind '73 340's in A-bodies, and in half ton pickup trucks clean up into the nineties. Couple things with them, much harder to swap gears vs 8.75, and C-clip axles aren't too welcome at a point drag racing, and you are correct, the 8.75 is a stronger rear end, and has 30 spline axles vs the 27 spline in the 8.25

So...I have a 56 Ford F100 with an open Chrysler 7.25 rear. I am wondering if it is possible to convert/install posi-traction into that rear? Any ideas? Thank you for your help.
Some 7.25 rears had sure-grips (posi). Unfortunately, the sure grips are a little expensive for those as it is not that common. The 7.25 isn't that strong of a rear end. It will take some abuse but was considered a slant six/318 2bbl rear end.
It will cost you the price of the 8.75 rear end, and anything that it may need including brakes and U bolts, plus shortening your drive shaft or buying a shorter one. Prices vary, E body, B body, A body, Truck, C-body etc. Then, what kind of deal you are able to find. No way for me to give you a total cost as most of this stuff is 2nd hand. This rear end in the video I bought long ago for 50 bucks, and the brakes are from Rock Auto.
Thanks for the question! If you are spending a lot of time on highway, I like 2.76's. If you are in a hilly area or doing a lot of in-town driving, stop light to stop light and 55 mph, I like 3.23's. I'm assuming we are talking about cars (A, B, or E bodies)
Hi, and thank U for your input on this. Yes I have a B body 73 Road runner, it now has I think 3.91 ratio. More for drag racing. Mosty we cruise around with it country driving. It is hard on gas. Do U know where I might find a set of 2.76 gears for that 489 case?@@318willrun
8.25 would have worked, but I'd have needed a lot more parts. The 8.25 is closer in weights to the 8.75. And, I already had the 2.94's for the 8.75, housing and all.

Sway bars help on sharp swerving or cornering. I've not had one on the back of an A-body, only the front.
