  • In detail about the kujaku variety.
    We use two Kujaku of the Maruhiro Koi Farm to explain you the aspects you have to look for when selecting a Kujaku for your own pond.
    Kujaku are koi with a white base, with orange markings on it. Typical for Kujaku is that is has the darker grey to black scales. It looks like a net pattern on the back of the Koi, which is really making this Koi a nicer and more special variety. These type of scales can also be found on the Matsuba variety. Sometimes these orange markings can be almost near red. This is referred to as “Red Kujaku” as well.
    The pattern. Let’s just start with the pattern. Basically you can take the basics of the kohaku pattern in mind. Which includes no orange over the eyes, the orange should be In between the eyes. The tail area should be white. The colours stay above the lateral line of the koi. The intensity of the orange colour is the same over the entire fish. There are no gaps in the orange section. Preferable there is no orange in the pectoral fins, which makes the fins look nicely white. A balanced pattern is also preferable, that should be a multiple setup pattern for example. But also a pattern with many small steps can look nice and balanced on a Kujaku.
    The head. Kujaku preferable have a super white head. What happens a lot on Kujaku is that the head looks darker: in the middle of the head some black or grey can be visible. And Also on the nose can develop some black. As well as the eyebrows of the Kujaku. Well it doesn’t have eyebrows, but you can see the black above the eyes.
    The body section. Preferable a stronger tail section. Not only the width of the tail but you also want to have a high tail! Height of the tail is actually quite important. You also want a long head, which is a good indicator for growth. Next to a good jitai, so a v-shaped body posture on the shoulders is indicating for potential in growth and mass development. Now honestly you should know that Kujaku usually won’t become the largest Koi of your collection, but of course they can become quite large as well. I’ve seen Kujaku over 80 cm in length.
    You want to have light scales. What is important, is that the scales are light coloured. Then I am referring to the grey or black scales on the back of Kujaku. If the Kujaku is only 1 or 2 years old, it should be light coloured for sure. Don’t worry that it won’t become darker, that will just naturally happen. Usually goes quicker than you actually imagined, you will be surprised. And the harder water is, the quicker this darker colours tend to develop. In Europa and in America we often have harder water than in Japan, which will speed up the development of the sumi or grey scales.

    Can you do a filter system setup. What’s the basic need and things to consider like Contact time, best filter media and bakki shower benefits? Would be great if you can upload a japanese breeder filter system and how does japanese breeder control there nitrates?

    • @Aboutkoi
      @Aboutkoi  4 роки тому +1

      Hi there. That is a good idea. I will do a video later on filtration setup, filtration media, benefits of different systems and so on. Stay tuned 😃

    • @jcm06
      @jcm06 4 роки тому +1

      AboutKoi looking forward to it. Because for me. A hobbyists before buying a koi fish would need to consider first their filter system. Also I’m really curious how does a large koi pond let’s say 50T or above control nitrates? water change is the one way but in large koi pond it would likely be costly?

    • @Aboutkoi
      @Aboutkoi  4 роки тому

      Most hobbyists I know with 40T up to 100T+ ponds do the normal water changes of 5-15% weekly. It is indeed a bit more costly, but usually these people are already longer in the hobby, do know what they are doing, and do also know it is important to perform water changes. But yes, a video will follow! Probably of multiple setups as well 👍

    Kan jij mij vertellen waarom 1/4 van mijn koi niet meer wilt eten en de rest VREET zelfs als n malle en mijn water waardes zijn perfect ?!

    • @Aboutkoi
      @Aboutkoi  4 роки тому +1

      Could be many different reasons. Did you check for parasites? Happens often that a few Koi start with behaviour to slow down a bit, while others are still swimming and eating actively. Is the pH value fine? Oxygen ok (means probably only the smaller ones are eating actively)? I would suggest to contact someone with expertise to help you out if this remains for a couple of days or you can see it is getting worse.

    What is difference between kujaku and beni ginga?

    • @Aboutkoi
      @Aboutkoi  4 роки тому

      Beni Ginga is a darker coloured variety. It has the metallic from the Kujaku. But the darker deep black from Hajiro or Showa. Also the Matsuba scales are deeply black.

  • @nathajyoti4286
    @nathajyoti4286 2 роки тому

    And the most important is the head must be clean,good hikari and deep beni,and matsuba must be perfectly scale,pattern only subjective for me
