Proud owner of #27 of the black model. I have to say there is nothing else even remotely like this on the market. I find myself going into far different places with it than a normal drum machine (often drones, and mad percussion). I have a couple vids on my channel if you want to watch. Oh, and it can quantize to 16th notes on the unit, but in a way, that spoils the weirdness of it. You can certainly hook it up to other clock sources if you want grid-like precision.
I recommend everyone check out Vlad's videos where he goes through each voice in video about 45 minutes long each. It seems like an instrument that will take a long time to really learn all the tricks. A very novel and complex beast.
@@annother3350 I know, but I am interested in a patch sensitive to conductivity on the target patch points in order to see the differential between two types of cheese!
Very, very, very, cool machine. Great little track too, brother, I wish I could hear more of it! Especially grateful for your content in this harsh time of being questioned here in Long Island, New York. Stay safe and keep rocking.
I have a Lyra-8, and I've said it before.. if I ever need to sell my synths, it's the last one to go. It's fantastic. There's nothing else on the market like it.
That's the most exciting music machine out there to me. I'm a huge fan of Vlad Kreimer's stuff... just built the DIY Lyra 8 and haven't been able to stop playing it. The Pulsar 23 is way out of my budget, but hopefully I can get my hands on one eventually. Such an amazing instrument.
I guess clips are a bit quicker, plus you can touch contacts briefly. You could have two metal thimbles, one on a finger of each hand linked together with a wire, place the wire down your sleeves (like your mum used to do with the string on your mittens) and then you can live patch :)
Am I the only one who thinks they missed a trick not putting the name "Pulsar 23" on the front in classic 1970s sci-fi computer font? That would have looked cool.
Finally got mine last weekend, in white, to match my Lyra-8. The sounds it makes are so unusual and wonderful. It's a machine you perform musical experiments with. The build quality is unmatched IMHO.

Wow I’m so behind... been watching Nick for years and never knew he was involved with Goldfrapp. Awesome, and 100% agree this would be lovely with some Alison vocals.
Cheers Nick, looking forward to the review. I think the fact it's got weird and nasty in spades is a given at this point, curious if you can get mellow but full of interest out of it, in a Friday jams style. :)
Amazing sound and possibilities, as always with Vlad's machines!🤗 Meanwhile, you've been lucky getting your parcel, Nick... Sadly, I had to cancel most of my orders: my Poly 4 never arrived though ordered in November. On the other hand, the Korg NTS-1 (ordered in October) arrived last week... funny little easy DIY kit, that one👍
Hardware drum machines don't interest me (either give me some real drums, or otherwise just do it in the computer) ........... but this seems to create unique sounds. Groundbreaking product, hope to see some more gear with this sort of philosophy soon.
Lovely bass but it does seem to just be a hard way to make drum beats you could make much easier on other machines. I’d buy that bass as a stand-alone, though.
The CV looper is intentionally unquantized, and actually records at an incredibly high resolution, so every nuance of the performance is captured. You can send quantized triggers via midi, or connect the various clock outputs to create interesting rhythms. Patching the clock to the looper restart pin can be used to keep the looper locked in time. The clock can be synced to midi so you can easily mix robotic and natural beats.
@@MeshMachine ok. It's just that I havent seen anyone make quantised beats yet. This is my dream machine and I'm determined to buy one soon but the only thing letting down the demonstrations i've seen is that they havent quantised

Sounds fantastic in every video I watch. Patiently waiting for an e-mail from Soma for mine to ship.

I'd be curious to see how the patching differs when using Red Leicester vs Chedder cheese?
You can patch this with your fingers - its still the same
