Simply next to the battery, unplug it. A Ford worker showed me, where it was. He said it doesn’t hurt anything, also it let’s you do something with the navigation while you are driving. I haven’t used that yet, but I will shortly when I have the opportunity. So I cannot comment on that honesty. But my truck has been unplugged over a month. No warning lights or issues. The truck is fine. He also said it doesn’t effect the warranty. But the plug is small and right next to the battery. A lot of people are looking for ways to disable the Daytime Running Lights. A standard procedure for many drivers is immediately after starting the vehicle they rotate the light switch counterclockwise to put the lights in manual mode. A device to automate this would be terrific.
I got the easy way. I bought AFM/DFM disabler for my 2019 Chevy silverado. You just plug in to the OBD port. This device do two things at the time, disable the auto stop and dynamic fuel management system.
An engine uses as much fuel restarting all time, as it would at idle, maybe even more. This feature was offered to make people feel good while they drive. Not to mention wear and tear on your starter and draining your battery. Great video.
No it was done to satisfy the idiot governor of California and Obama. They are the ones that put this legislation in place. And his successor Brandon just passed a bill with the help of Rhinos that is going to require interlocks on every new vehicle beginning in 2026. Gross.
Don't bother commenting if you don't know what you're talking about. Stop start doesn't use a traditional starter and it doesn't wear out. They use stop start batteries designed for the purpose. And they absolutely do reduce emissions if you're stopped for more than 5 seconds. Which has been proven time and time and time again.
@@Angel1810 It's helpful to have it on, as it'll 'pause' the engine when you stop at a red light, and 'resume' it when you're ready to pull off again. It does it faster than you can press down the clutch, (or release the brake in an auto), so doesn't interfere at all with your driving. But does save on fuel and emissions. If you're stopped a long time and the car needs the engine for another reason, like it wants to run the aircon etc, it'll kick back on earlier. Or in very cold temps it won't stop at all.
Thank you very much for this practical video. Mine was a little different as I have bucket seats. But your instructions allowed me to see where the pressure clips were. Keep up the good work.

No it doesn't. That's a myth from a decade ago. Cars with autostop have specifically designed autostop starters that will not wear out from being used as intended. There's literally no reason not to use it, unless it's a super hot or cold day, and in those cases it usually turns itself off anyway. Though it's weird this car doesn't have a setting to disable it by default. Virtually all cars have a function in the settings. But, cheap American crap I guess.

The reason I turn my auto stop off is due to the fact, the engine gets hotter when it shuts down. It can climb another 50, 60, or 70 degrees when turned off. I’d rather have the water flowing thru the engine and keeping it cool as much as I can. I had an older truck that ran at 180 degrees normally, but when turned off it would reach 240 degrees before cooling back down. As far as I know, heat equals pressure, and pressure equals strain on gaskets and hoses. Plus, replacing the starter will suck one day.

you can always put a cut trailer plug into the back which makes it think its pulling a trailer and shut off the auto start/stop. or in case of a ford - shut off the system via software.

Not that I’ve discovered. They do make a replacement panel below the steering wheel to add a row of buttons to the left hand side. That’s what I’d do. Much less janky then drilling holes and adding generic buttons or toggle switches.
Nope their separate. This is just for the Autostop feature. Pulsar makes a scanner port module that can disable both, but that’s a lot more expensive and messes with your computer, so I’d be cautious about warranties after changing their programing.

But doesn’t the truck already come with an on/off switch? I have mine set to off. What does this part do that the switch doesn’t?
Edit: never mind me, it’s simply to keep it off when starting the truck. Thanks for the vid!
it remembers the last mode you had it in when truck was turned off. Factory defaults to "on" every time it is started
At least my truck doesn't shut off when the ac is on. My durango would shut off and blow hot air at me.
Thanks for the video. Auto Stop is by far the worst invention ever made. I have grown to find out that anytime a vehicle manufacturer makes a feature that helps save fuel it always causes wear and tear failures later down the road.
yea ripping $65k apart to trust 100$ dongle....im still on the edge over but thanks for the content
Nice project to get out of the way. However i'm curious about the Z71 badge on the glove box, where did you buy that and how does it mount. Was it adhesive or bolt on. Thanks Much
It’s the original from the outside of my truck after I did my blackout badging. Just some double sided tape.
Thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated.
I put a range technology on my 2021 and fixed that and the AFM .
just bought my first vehicle with auto stop....i am not a fan of that feature.. thanks for the video.
Although I appreciate the effort - I am not disassembling my new truck- hitting the button like I do now works fine!
Another Great video! New subscriber 👍🏼
I will definitely be looking into getting it. Good video and information! Looking forward to the intake video.
What’s the big deal about turning the button on or off ?
Too much of a hassle. Why did you put a Z71 badge on your glove box ?
It doesn't bother me. Fortunately, the truck comes with a button and I can trun it off as soon as I sit in the car. I prefer not to mess with rhe wiring.
Same here!! And it don’t cost anything.
@@swampoodle68 why are you even here?! lol jk thanks for the support! 🙂
Some Silverado’s don’t have a way to turn it off by pressing the same button.
Same here I just press the button to shut it off
I don’t know what’s the big deal….when I forget and realize its on all i have to do is push the button
Are they available for the new 2022 silverado refresh?
Have a quick question i have noticed when i leave my 21 silverado running and i step out of the truck to direct traffic for my fire department my truck will shut down shutting off my emergancy lights has anyone found a way to stop the truck from shutting off after the time
Hook your lights up directly to to the battery. You can have a separate switch still. I even have two switches on mine, so my wife doesn't turn them on accidently LOL.
Make sure you use a fusible link in there.
Thanks for posting! I’m about ready to tackle my own installation on my ‘21 AT4. This helps a lot!
If you go to Range Technology. Com you can buy a plug n play that will keep your truck in 8 cly and delete the auto/stop at the same time for $200 had one on my 17 Denali, and getting my new one for my 20 AT4 tomorrow they work great 👍
Ever get this? Curious how it’s been working
@@DKLabs99 i did receive it it seems to be working fine the reason why I say it seems to be working is because the newer trucks with DFM not AFM don't tell you in the dash display if your in V4 or V8 cause DFM engines are designed to run from 2 to 8 cylinders but it was disabling the auto start/stop i called Range technology directly and the tech told me if the lights are on and its working for the auto start/stop then most likely its keeping it in 8 cylinders, but on a side note I just ordered the pulsar lt look into that on the Range Technology web site I think you might like that better im getting mine in about a week
@@stevepouliot6906 thanks for the info
Steve,
Great video, how much are these for the 2021 silverado?
Mine disabled in my Sierra idk why any help? Thanks in advance
Also do you know anything about the radio on the 2021 if I'm driving it I turn off the radio but when I turn the truck off and restart it the radio comes back on every single time
I own a 2019 silverado rst. If you hold the power button down on the radio for a couple seconds it turns the whole head unit off but once you turn your truck back on the radio is off and the head unit turns on.
@@justinkaczynski4120 I will try it TK you
Do you have an issue with your back up camera at night with it being too bright and glary. My camera is so bright I can't see anything in the camera or my side mirrors at night from the reflection of the brightness. 2019 Sierra. Go Vikings!!
Sköl! lol. I have no complaints about my camera. I did upgrade my reverse lights to some bright LEDs. Not sure if that would help or hurt your situation. 🧐
I hate the back up camera at night what a bad idea not being able to dim it .
Update to my back up camera issue. GM Service bulletin 20- NA-129 solved The issue.
There is NO-ONE!!!!! on planet earth that buys a V8 vehicle…specially a TRUCK, that is concern about gas mileage. We are totally ok with the trade off.
I like having my cake and eating it too. 420hp when I’m pulling my 6000# camper, and today I got 20mpg driving on the highway. 👍 If I only want to own 1 vehicle, I’m glad I can get some economy out of it when I’m not towing. Oh well, the electric Silverado will be here soon enough. 😝
@@TruckOwnership101 and it won't hold a charge for more than 250 miles tops. Where do you charge it once you get to your CAMPING destination? I don't know too many campsites that have charging stations. Good luck with that. PS you're still burning fossil fuels to create the electricity to charge the battery, but that transfer is actually more wasteful and inefficient than a direct internal combustion engine vehicle.
Electric vehicles are impractical over long distances especially utility ones designed for hauling and trailering. Plus the lithium batteries are super toxic and last 8-10 years tops. Lithium takes thousands of years to break down in a landfill.
No thanks i'll stick to gas combustion gas engines.
@@chrisloesch1870 Lol dude. Campsites for big campers have both 30 and 50 amp. My truck would charge on the 50 while my camper runs on the 30. Fast charge while camping! 😛 And my house has solar. So 99% of the time I’m getting free electricity. I agree battery range needs to get better, and it will. Once it does we will see if you keep paying out the nose for gas and road taxes. I wonder if people like you existed when the model T first came out. “WhErE wILl YoU FiNd GaS?!? iM StIcKiNg WiTh My HoRsE!”
Will the 23sierra version work on 23 Canyon/ Colorado? They have the same engine
What did you do. All I seen that you did was unplug it
Spend another $100 and get the Range. Will also disable the DFM.
Another good option. But autostop was the only thing that bothered me. So I elected to keep the $100, fuel economy, and the open port for my check engine light scanner.
What’s the dfm
You will be a fan of it if fuel prices keep going up.
They need a way to do away with that stupid switch AND the 4cylinder mode.
Ask your starter how it likes it. The amount of "fuel" you save vs cost of a new starter.
Starting a warm truck is nothing like starting a cold truck. But I agree it’s not good for its lifespan lol.
@@TruckOwnership101 True but either way lol. Prematurely shortens the life span. I've worked on BMW's for years, ever since they implemented that start/stop crap, feels like I replace them every other month
It’s not to save you gas it’s to meet emission rules they could care less if you spend more money as long as it passes the stupid emission tests
@@redneck4200000 Everything is about emissions, but better fuel economy coincides with better emissions. But having the vehicle turn off at idle doesn't make a huge impact, there are better ways to go about it. Just wait until they start installing the receivers on the highways. That CEL will become a letter in the mail telling you to get your car fixed or be fined.
So happy my custom trailboss doesn’t have auto start/stop
you next truck will !
@@northlander4370 Most likely not. Because everything will be electric by then lol
Custom front end though🙄🙄 No LED's either.....smh
@@Oneshawdog89 Yeah no LEDs are a bummer, but I've grown to really like the Custom Trailboss front end.
Thanks for the information! Very informative!
Is it Z71? I couldn't see a badge.
$71,000 GMC Dinali and you want me to use a prototype? Talked to the dealer and they said it would void the warranty.
This video has been out for over 8 months now. It’s not a prototype anymore lol. It’s just a simple relay that presses the button for you if you last left the Autostop button in the off position. It’s not changing any programing in the truck like a Pulsar LT will (that will void a warranty and is traceable) But I don’t “want” you to do anything. You don’t seem to be the type of person for this mod if you are flexing with MSRP numbers like I’m supposed to be impressed lol.
Does this solve the truck shutting off when idle for more than 15-30-1hr-10hrs????
All this does is send the signal that you pressed the button is all. If pushing that button doesn’t fix those shut offs, then neither will this.
It shortens your starter life!
The Autostop function? Or the Eliminator? I'm more concerned about the autostop ruining my turbo... I thought you weren't supposed to shut off your truck's engine until the turbo had a chance to cool down, is that still a thing?
Where can I get the same peace you have
Although when they do come out I’ll still get one over a mini van 😎
Please do an install of a high country or Ltz control panel!
it looks like they have discount codes. is there one for your viewers?
Why don’t you just disassemble the whole truck. Pushing the button when you get in the truck seems a whole lot easier.
Can you guess who he voted for electric truck really !
Every time that your truck shuts off and starts back up it uses more fuel to do that then if it was just left idling facts
Don’t beat yourself up over the climate change according to what they said 20 years ago none of us should even be here right now so believe what you want to we don’t lose sleep at night worrying about it because they’ll just move the goal post
Is there a way to turn the far left inactive button on that switch panel to a functional switch? Im wanting to add some more lighting but don’t want to drill or cut the dash for switches
Not that I’ve discovered. They do make a replacement panel below the steering wheel to add a row of buttons to the left hand side. That’s what I’d do. Much less janky then drilling holes and adding generic buttons or toggle switches.
Yeah I did see that option. Was hoping to maybe integrate those extra two buttons but it is what it is I guess lol
Much needed. Thanks for video
You're welcome
you could have bought an electric car. not me, i love the power of a v8. high octane, yeah buddy.
Nah I’m good.. I’ll just have to hit the button every time I start the truck lol. It’s a shame this button doesn’t stay off.
Do you get green lines on your screen when you start your car after installing this?
Nope. This is just a module that goes in line with the wiring that goes to that row of buttons. It doesn’t do anything that would impact your screen.
Thanks, I’ll try and reopen that center console later. Probably a lose wire somewhere
Is there a fuse I can pull to disable it ?
Not to my knowledge. Based on this wiring harness, the signal to turn it off comes from the computer.
Does this also disable the AFM? Not sure if this is all connected or if two seperate things
Nope their separate. This is just for the Autostop feature. Pulsar makes a scanner port module that can disable both, but that’s a lot more expensive and messes with your computer, so I’d be cautious about warranties after changing their programing.
@@TruckOwnership101 thanks
I not going to defend this stupid switch for anything. I think it uses more gas than just running
My truck is great on gas , the stop start is awful ,it's better on gas if it's shut off . I have gotten up to 25 mpg with the 5.3 . Terrible idea
mine as well. Truck engines are WAYYYY More fuel efficient than they were 10-15 years ago.
