Many years ago I was arrested for Domestic Violence when my wife went into Paranoid Personality Disorder and thus the charges were dropped. However, during the few days when this was all being sorted out I noted the relish of how some called me "A Monster," while they in fact were evil and base and detestable for projecting their wicked hearts upon me.

@borrowed tomb You really think powerful men are less sexually abusive because they are intellectuals? And you really think that the business allies of these powerful care more about the victims then about their business organization?

Paul, I sympathize with you, or what you claimed to have experienced.
These kinds of accusations, when false [i.e.: please note that I deliberately did not say, "these false accusations"], can ruin a man permanently, and there is very little incentive to for women to tell the truth. Virtue and integrity aren't strong incentives to tell the truth.
In this case, the accusations seem legit, but at the end of the day, we have investigators, who are not under oath in court, and we have a culture of "believe all women". The investigators were hired [and therefore not neutral] and have no incentive to tell the truth, just as the news media have no incentive to tell the truth about the wages of men and women.
That being said, I could visualize Ravi doing all of this, after watching a few minutes ago a video about Ravi's bad doctrinal issues.
I'm not ready to accept any of the info as fact. This isn't the same as 500 people claiming to see a resurrected saviour. This is people accusing. Therefore, we need to tread carefully, and to exercise more rigor.
I'm frustrated at being forced to think about this.

It is sad that a "leader" in the Christian community is praised while he/she is living, but the so called leader dies, all the thrash about him/her comes out. Back in the 60's a church was started in my home, it was a Spanish speaking church. Some Christians who had money give and help found out about the church and they wanted to donate $65, 000 to the church and they asked what l thought about Billy Graham. I was a very young in the faith, l told them what l thought about Billy Graham, l guess l gave the wrong answer, we did not get the money. No explanation, nothing . Years later l found about Dr. Graham and l kind of accepted the rejection of the money. Most of what l found out was after he died. The main reason we did not receive the money was that Billy Graham would the converts to go to any church, more or less. In light of all this, where does Franklin Graham stand?

"If you have a study Bible/ministry named after you..." Didn't Luther hate the idea of a group of Christians being named "Lutherans"? I'm pretty sure that Calvin hated the idea too. And look what people do...Calvinists, Lutherans, Wesleyans...we're frighteningly prone to making idols the leaders who God appoints for a season.

    • @abideintheWord
      @abideintheWord 3 роки тому +2

God appointed them? Luther was a heretic who advocated the removal of the book of Hebrews, James, Jude, and Revelation. And Calvin advocated for numerous people who disagreed with him to be put to death and murdered by burning them at the stake. Didn’t Jesus say you will know false teachers by their fruit? Do you need stinkier fruit than that?

    • @abideintheWord
      @abideintheWord 3 роки тому +1

Mark OnTheBlueRidge quotes straight from Calvin:
“The one who blasphemes the name of the Lord should be put to death; all the congregation must stone him. Any foreigner or native who blasphemes the Name should be put to death.” - John Calvin
He then argued is anybody disagreed that heretics should NOT be put to death then they are guilty themselves.
“Whoever shall now contend that it is unjust to put heretics and blasphemers to death, knowingly and willingly incur their guilt. It is not human authority that speaks, it is God who speaks and prescribes a perpetual rule for His Church.” - John Calvin
He then had Michael Servetus put to death after he disagreed with him. Next time he saw him at church he had him arrested and burnt to death on the stake. He was burnt with green wood so presumably he would burn slower. For 30 minutes he screemed and cried out to Jesus for mercy until he slowly burnt to death. Calvin then said this of Servetus’ death:
“Servetus . . . suffered the penalty due to his heresies, but was it by my will? Certainly his arrogance destroyed him not less than his impiety. And what crime was it of mine if our Council, at my exhortation, indeed, but in conformity with the opinion of several Churches, took vengeance on his execrable blasphemies?” - John Calvin

Thank you for this fair and honest commentary on the situation with Ravi. You’re absolutely right in that we ought not hold any person in high regard, no matter the perceived righteousness , intelligence, biblical scholarship, or giftedness in preaching. Jesus died on the cross because of the magnitude of Man’s depravity, the depths of which are unfathomable. I see this a lot in western churches, the tendency to introduce famous speakers by proclaiming a long list of accolades before they step onto the podium. God hates pride and resists the proud. We do these brethren a disservice by tempting them to think too highly of themselves, thus making them vulnerable to other grievous sins. I also agree with what you said about putting one’s name on a study bible or ministry. Even Paul said “Christ must increase and I must decrease”. I once read that humility is not thinking lowly of yourself but rather humility is not thinking of yourself at all.

This was so well said. The most important thing is that God is perfect, Christians are not. It's so critical to acknowledge that good work done by people who turned out to have done terrible things does not negate the good and the utility of the work. I kept thinking of how even St. Peter denied Christ 3x, and yet, redemption is still possible.
Even for folks who have done these things, who can know if their hearts turned to Christ in sorrow and repentence a thousand times as they battled their demons? I know that I too was born in iniquity and in sin, my mother conceived me. May we be humble before our God and with faith and trust in His love and mercy, let us repent.

I don't know you or your ministry, but I suppose this came to my feed because of watching many Ravi Z videos. I came to know of his ministry only a couple of years ago, but deeply appreciated how he handled nonbelievers with sensitivity and acceptance. So this made me extremely sad to learn of the misconduct just now. (I wasn't aware before this). I think of King David who was an adulterer and had the husband killed in battle, had a child from that relationship, and yet God--the Lord God, the one who knew him beforehand and created him and called him to greatness...God called him a man "after his own heart,"
(1 Samuel 13:14). David had a repentant heart (Psalm 51), as I hope any spiritual leader who falls would have. As you said in the video, the work of the Holy Spirit & the Gospel of Jesus Christ goes on. We are all sinners, of course, some of us having been rescued from very bad situations. Do we really think that we won't be attacked in this spiritual battle? But as you said, take precautions so as not to have even the appearance of compromise.
I worked at a Christian nonprofit from 1986-94. The president at that time was traveling the world for relief & development programs, had a great measure of status locally & among international agencies. He was active in our morning prayer time as a staff of about 15 people at that time. Just last October 2019, his daughter came out publicly about his sexual abuse of her for years beginning as a very young child. He had passed away several years ago, but she had finally grown to the place where she could confront it. She tried to talk to the board about it when he was alive, but she was young & was basically dismissed by the board & they suggested therapy. They did remove her father from being the president, but kept him on in other important functions. I was broken when this came out because I believed in the mission of the agency (which no longer claims to be Christian btw). Your approach is a sober one. We don't rejoice when leaders fall; but we do need to be held accountable to someone else. I am still sure of my faith in the mercy of God, and of his divine rescue mission for us.

I find the infantilizing of an adult woman who was NOT in a position where he was in any kind of authority over her to pressure or control her to be highly disturbing, though. If women aren't adults in their thirties, responsible for their own actions, are they ever adults????
We also need to bring back social standards that normalize strong boundary-setting by women AND men alike. This intimacy creep is a cause of no small numbers of fractures in marriages (this situation aside, which given the spa activity, is of a quite different level of magnitude).
There are certain levels of intimacy that should never go outside the family (and I don't mean sexual--other forms of intimacy usually come long before) and others that should never be shared between friends of the opposite sex. This should not be a controversial statement, but our society keeps acting like it can be blind to sex differences until inappropriate relationships are forged and emotional (if not actually physical) affairs are begun. Our over-sharing culture is a perfect storm to shipwreck marriages.

Our Father's ways are truly higher than our ways. It's no reason to excuse the sin and maybe it's a real test of where our faith sits - in the person (the evangelist) or in their message (which can still be idolized) or where it should be - in Jesus who is Lord and Messiah. Paul talked about this - "one says I am of Apollo, another says I am of Paul" ... imagine those in Bible times who looked up to Ananias and Sapphira. How much more as we see the Day approaching that we simply must have our focus completely on the one who died for our sins and nowhere else.

It would’ve been interesting to see what action if any Nabeel Qureshi would’ve taken amidst these allegations being further corroborated as I hold Nabeel in high esteem as someone thoroughly genuine. With that said the message of Jesus & the Gospel stemming from RZIM should not be dismissed. However in light of some hard evidence (calls, texts, emails) against Ravi Zacharias, to carry on the name RZIM is a disgrace and should be dismantled. Anyone continuing to be associated with the name RZIM can no longer be deemed credible in my eyes and if they are indeed genuine would break from RZIM. RZIM is not indispensable to spread the word. I was Saved in '85. In apologetics since early 90's. Studied under both Geisler and Ravi. ....and it's always bothered me how people followed Ravi....almost more like they were following and quoting him than Christ ....sometimes it seemed. Of course no one would ever say or admit such. It just sometimes didn't look right as a spectator in the bleachers. I learned the hard way in my younger days with Mike Warkne not to do that. It was hard, but I learned my lesson. It is going to be hard for some who are learning that lesson for the first time with Ravi. Second, do not dismiss facts based on its origin. If a Banjo Playin' Atheist has evidence or good reason, it is what it is. Do not commit the genetic fallacy. Last, the immorality of a Christian Leader never falsifies the claims of God's Word. If anything, it confirms it. Between the effects of COVID on churches, Ravi, Falwell Jr, Bill Hybles, etc.....Organized religion in America is about to experience a shift . What I think that is? No room to discuss here. No matter what happens, God and his Words never falter and never change. Lord be with you all.

When we have a lot of success and fame even for spiritual things then we can become spiritually vulnerable to falling into pride which can lead to other more visible sins.

I have learn one thing from this video: If you are called to lead a ministry, Do not make yourself a celebrant or set up the ministry in your name since we are all prone to make mistakes (in other words; make an equal presentation for everyone in the ministry so that if anything happens the impacts can be light on everyone out there, especially the non-believers who just wait for such moments to attack the faith). When we make ourselves the face of the Ministry, it shakes the faith of the weak followers when things like this takes place, since not all the followers are mature enough to understand that their faith should be based on the Lord Jesus. A believers true battle is between the Holy Spirit that is in them and their flesh. Apostle Paul tells us in 1 Thess 4:3 to abstain from fornication as part of our sanctification, because this is God's will for every believer. This simply means many believers are guilty of fornication. This is a real battle between the Spirit and the flesh.
Whether it is true or not, it is between Ravi and God, for every believer must all appear in the judgment seat of Christ (Rom. 14:10, 2 Cor 5:10), for they will be judge in the flesh for the good and bad works they do. Paul instructs us that before we judge others, judge ourselves first.

It's a conscious decision to disobey God. Those who teach are judged with greater strictness (James 3:1). If you teach against immorality (adultery in RZ's case), you walk into committing it with your eyes wide open. There is no excuse. And it's certainly no "mistake." What I mean is that some Christians have a problem with listening to the songs from groups such as Hillsong, Bethel, Elevation, etc. because they have been found their churches and leaders to have questionable teachings and practices and that if they listen to their music, they are then funding and helping to popularize these wrong teachings. This may or may not be true, but what if God judges him to be "a man after His own heart"!
Remember: Ac. 13:22 “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will”.
Does being a person after God’s own heart mean perfection? Certainly not! Nobody is perfect, except Jesus.

You are correct in that David was a man after God’s heart. But even David had the Prophet Nathanial come to him and skillfully expose the sin of the king. This was necessary for his restoration to God - Ps.32, 51. Furthermore, the Bible goes a bit further to state in Paul’s letters to the Corinthians: “For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge?” (1Cor.5:12). This is in direct reference to one’s lifestyle and participation within the house of God. Now regarding the bride’s preparation to meet Christ, Peter says: “For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?” (1Pe.4:17).
I like Ravi, but if we want to be honest, objective, and without partiality, then we have to condemn the wrong that he did seeing there is clear evidence to indicate he did what he is being accused of. The man spoke truth that we can glean from and benefit, but we can learn what not to do just as we are able from the man after God’s own heart.

In this day and age, it is increasingly difficult to separate truth from opinion...and truth from gossip. Personally, I find it highly irresponsible to publicly judge Ravi either guilty OR innocent. At the present time, we simply don't know.
No one, not even those among our greatest heroes in the faith, are so great that they cannot fall. We shouldn't let our admiration of any human cloud our discernment.
At the same time, Christian leaders almost invariably make enemies along the way. Even if Ravi isn't being falsely accused, others have been. The witnesses, in this case, do not appear to be anywhere close to unimpeachable.
I believe both RZIM and the CMA are running investigations into these matters. I, for one, will withhold judgment until more facts come to light.

It's odd to me that I responded just yesterday, the same day that my wife received in her inbox a message from RZIM revealing the results of an interim report from their investigation into this situation. They hired an independent law firm to conduct the investigation, and that firm's preliminary conclusion is that there is "significant credible evidence" pointing towards Ravi's guilt.
I believe the full report is supposed to be out in a few months.

Satan is a very cunning adversary and none of us have the ability to defeat him ourselves. That includes even the most pious and reverent of the Lord's servents. That is why Jesus died on the cross for us, so that through him we have the ability to overcome our sin. 1 Peter 5-v8

It just shows us that no one is beyond temptation. Perhaps he sought help but was too far gone into his addiction to become free?
Perhaps as a famous leader, he was afraid to share his struggle feeling too humiliated to reveal his uncontrollable passion for sexual lust?
I do not know how Ravi lived with himself and still proclaimed God's truth with great insight, and yet livid in a hell of deep dark bondage?
May the Lord have mercy on his soul!!!

It's true that we should not be quick to believe any accusations made against Ravi. But we should not disregard those accusations because he was a respected apologist. The man is still human with sexual desires.

No one is perfect. It doesn't take away from his apologetics. There's the story if Balaam in the Bible where the Angel if the Lord looses the tongue of the mule so ut could speak. The words he spoke were wise and demonstrates that even if it is a dumb ass speaks wisdom that will save your life, it's still words of wisdom that will save your life.

Again, his apologetics, i. e. Arguments aren't nullified by his weakness. You may disagree with them on merit but not even the absence of a doctorate nulifies any wisdom he spoke.

@@johnwilson3740 Hi John, a heck of a lot has happened since Dr. Cooper posted this video. Just Google Ravi Zacharias. It’s all over the press. His ministry has come out and admitted that he engaged in “sexual misconduct“ for “many years“. To make matters worse, they say that there is “more serious“ conduct that they will be revealing in January or February.
The real question now is how he got away with lying and abusing for so many years. It took me a few hours to figure out that he lied about his credentials. And that was back in 2015. Nobody gave a shit. God, Inc. was all about business as usual. And when Ravi’s suicide threat to cover up his online sexual stuff was made public in late 2017, again, not a single prominent Christian spoke out. The book contracts, megachurch speaking gigs, ministry awards, and accolades kept flowing uninterrupted.
That’s the real issue here now. Not just another sleazy preacher. We will always have those. But we need to figure out is how to deal with them.
