In the same with Maddie, when the bullet hits her, it gives her impact frame in a way, that her face is half covered. Just like her role. She was playing half for Caitlyn and half for Ambessa
Is it the one on the bridge? I will have to check. The problem with 1-2 impact frames like these is it's almost impossible to see unless you are focused on that moment or person or area of the screen. In anime these frames are spread out over a longer period of time so it's hard to miss.
I've seen that frame before, and I took it to imply that Viktor was already dead. Jayce was right, his partner did die in the councilor chamber. Jayce really did some necromancy (he even came back wrong pfft).
Looks to me that he broke BOTH of his shin bones. When looking at the frame, the single bone on the left is the femur and the two on the right are the tibia and fibula. It looks to me that they both broke a couple inches below the knee. Very painful and unlikely to heal right without surgery, which is why Jayce had a very pronounced limp.
A frame a specifically remember was in episode eight of season 1. When VI is first using the gauntlets, she punches one of the shimmer mechs in the chest. This shows an impact frame of the persons rib cage breaking before they fly away.
I think the impact frames used in that fight scene in S1E8 in particular were dragged out over a longer period of time for each, because they were so much more noticeable than most of the rest of the impact frames. The first time in that fight is Jayce swinging the hammer around and shattering the dude's ribcage, then the 2nd one right after he swings the hammer and it hits another guy in the leg and its just pulverized entirely. The Vi one with her smashing the guy's ribs with the gauntlet is the 3rd one that is very easy to see. They were so much easier to see I suspect they probably used 4-5 frames each for those ones compared to these ones that are like 1-2 frames each. Either that or the way the fighting is styled (where the slow-mo kicks in right before the weapon impact) makes it that much easier to look at the exact right moment to see the impact frame. For example, the first punch she connects into the thugs head tank has an impact frame when she flies across the room and lands on the bridge next to Jayce at 31:48 in S1E8. That one is soooo much quicker than the next 3 impact frames during the fight. There is actually a 4th impact frame when Jayce hits one of the thugs with the handle of his hammer when he has the thugs arm caught in close so he cant stab him with it. That one might be the quickest of them all.
I saw the Jayce breaking his leg one when first watching the episode and I physically cringed. I hate being reminded that our limbs and just snap like that it makes me nauseous

Every time I see the impact frame of Jayce's leg breaking, I get the most EXCRUCIATING sympathy pains omg. No wonder his leg never healed properly, that's a complete breakage of BOTH the tibia and the fibula not to mention it's a goddamn COMPOUND FRACTURE (and displacement of the knee) like, my guy. stop walking already. please.
right its gut wrenching. i genuinely cannot believe he can walk with any semblance of a normal gait again after that, even with the brace bc...god damn. esp knowing that it definitely did NOT heal right...and he had to agitate it further climbing out of that damn canyon...coupled with the damn flesh eating infection...ouch ouch ouch
@@geowinchester4573 do you want me to make it worse? Because I will. On the impact frame you can see little pieces of bone shatter off the point of impact, meaning they're likely still stuck somewhere in his leg. Which is bad enough, and only made worse by the fact that he had to SET the bone when what you should do with a compound fracture is literal surgery, so it's likely that even more bone splintered off. So every step, every movement of the leg would be EXCRUCIATING, even when the bone itself heals. Get this man to a doctor ASAP

@@geowinchester4573 I mean, yeah. Amputation would realistically likely be the go to solution at this point considering the alternative is an insane degree of debilitating chronic pain. Also because we have no idea what the fuck is the deal with that infection he's got going on, which might even be incurable, so yeah. Amputation would be very likely. On the point that it was toned down, it absolutely was, likely because shows tend to do that (necessary suspension of disbelief and all that), but I like to joke that they didn't show the initial fracture as it would realistically be because they'd have to add a gore warning lol. If anything, as much as thinking about this actually hurts, I am glad I get to be a nerd abt it lmao
I happened to have noticed most of these, but I must have blinked during Maddies because I didn't even notice the screen go dark for a moment, and the smile def requires you to have been looking at her face instead of Cait, but I wasn't. Something for all these impact frames the animators do a great job at (and in general) is guiding the viewers eyes and with that knowledge being able to make these frames be at exactly where we're most likely looking, so that we'll notice them (assuming we don't blink lol), it's awesome!
Maddie's is extra-extra brilliant because even if you catch it, the way it's drawn lines up like a chin; however, Maddie's chin is distinctly pointed, and the lines also end up lining up higher where her mouth is right before the frame.
Jayce KNEW Viktor is dead because when he lifted Viktor, he can feel his lower body disconnected and move freely, so he rushed him to the lab instead hospital, with a hope of saving Viktor.
one comment i kept making to my friends as we were watching was that ive never seen an animated piece fo work showcase weight so well when jayces hammer fell and broke his leg it actually felt real same with most of the other ones as well it just felt like it had real physics somehow
In Hong Kong action cinema, they sometimes cut after a "hit" and then echo the hit from another angle to show the hit a second time. Contrast that to alot of western action movies where they cut before/mid punch, taking away all power from the blow, often not even showing the impact
There are MANY more of these btw, might have to make a part two

They are also, up until the last ten years or so, almost completely unheard of in western animation, way more common in video game animations and eastern animation. A neat nod to Arcane's origin as a video game and a cool way to see techniques from around the world blending.
Soooo, everywhere i read about Maddies smile and this is the first time (and I saw this scene many times) when I saw it in normal speed
Im so glad maddie got that send off. She was weird from the beginning lol.
"THE END" is what hits me the most 😢😢😢
I would like if they left them a bit more so I could see them usually I miss those and they are so cool
What’s also cool about the impact frames and some effects is that it’s 2D hand drawn
The last one with Jayce fading after he held Vic at the ending, hit me hard.
The amount of precession tp actually hit where the gun is easiest to break is mind blowing🙉🤯
@@gemstones8337 i think about jayce's cave arc and his injury and permanent leg brace WAYYY too much so actually thank you for making it worse even if im cringing and squirming even harder now. bc i think theres not enough analysis about how bad it truly was. the bone fragments have been living in my mind rent free and god yeah theyre def just...there...in that mass of badly healed flesh, making everything even more painful. and idk much about anatomy but i can imagine the muscle and ligaments and tendons and nerves etc in the area must be fcked to hell and back...this poor guy. ik its a cartoon and they can make it a lil less life altering and tortorous in the long term than it may realistically be (also he needs to get back on his feet to kick ass haha so a lil suspension of disbelief is necessary) but god...knowing that even with how nasty it was in the show (ike they did NOT hold back) the damage is STILL toned down to a degree. It's crazy. I wonder if it woulda just had to be cut off irl 😭
Spider verse really changed animation forever
Whemever caitlyn shoots her hextech railgun the impact frame has a ring of runes around the barrel. its really cool.
What also adds to the effect is that they are the only frames that are 2D rendered so they look even sharper comparatively
I can't believe I actually noticed all of these feeling so proud rn
Just another reason why arcane is the best series
I still can't listen to this song, just gave me goose pumps all over again
I happened to have noticed most of these, but I must have blinked during Maddies because I didn't even notice the screen go dark for a moment, and the smile def requires you to have been looking at her face instead of Cait, but I wasn't.
Something for all these impact frames the animators do a great job at (and in general) is guiding the viewers eyes and with that knowledge being able to make these frames be at exactly where we're most likely looking, so that we'll notice them (assuming we don't blink lol), it's awesome!
So that's the smile everyone was talking about. Guess I must have blinked. Love the video and the song
You could actually watch this show frame by frame and still be amazed
Art, pure art.
Maddie's is extra-extra brilliant because even if you catch it, the way it's drawn lines up like a chin; however, Maddie's chin is distinctly pointed, and the lines also end up lining up higher where her mouth is right before the frame.
Awesome! I didn’t notice these, thanks!
god this show is amazing
Jayce KNEW Viktor is dead because when he lifted Viktor, he can feel his lower body disconnected and move freely, so he rushed him to the lab instead hospital, with a hope of saving Viktor.
one comment i kept making to my friends as we were watching was that ive never seen an animated piece fo work showcase weight so well when jayces hammer fell and broke his leg it actually felt real same with most of the other ones as well it just felt like it had real physics somehow
Maddie’s devious ahh smile was cold af 😭
The synchronization of this short is ELITE
I really liked the impact frames during the warwick scene in stillwater!
In Hong Kong action cinema, they sometimes cut after a "hit" and then echo the hit from another angle to show the hit a second time. Contrast that to alot of western action movies where they cut before/mid punch, taking away all power from the blow, often not even showing the impact
