FIRE stands for Financial Independence, Retire Early. It is a movement and lifestyle focused on achieving financial independence at an early age, typically in one's 30s or 40s, and having the freedom to retire from traditional employment. The core principle of FIRE is to save a significant portion of one's income, often 50% or more, and invest it wisely to build wealth and generate passive income. By living frugally, controlling expenses, and optimizing investments, followers of FIRE aim to accumulate enough assets to sustain their desired lifestyle without relying on traditional employment income.
    1. Financial Independence: FIRE emphasizes attaining financial independence, which means having enough wealth and passive income to cover living expenses without the need for traditional employment. This financial freedom allows individuals to have more control over their time and pursue activities they are passionate about.
    2. Savings Rate: FIRE advocates for a high savings rate, often aiming to save 50% or more of their income. By keeping expenses low and prioritizing savings, followers of FIRE can accelerate their journey towards financial independence.
    3. Investing: Investing plays a crucial role in FIRE. Followers typically invest their savings in various assets such as stocks, bonds, real estate, or index funds. The goal is to grow their wealth over time and generate passive income through dividends, interest, or rental income.
    4. Frugality: FIRE promotes a frugal lifestyle, which involves consciously reducing expenses and avoiding unnecessary purchases. By cutting back on nonessential spending, individuals can save more money and allocate it towards investments.
    5. Retiring Early: The "Retire Early" aspect of FIRE refers to leaving traditional employment earlier than the conventional retirement age. This doesn't necessarily mean completely stopping work but rather having the financial freedom to choose work that aligns with one's interests and passions, without being solely driven by financial necessity.
    6. Flexibility and Lifestyle Design: FIRE encourages individuals to design their lifestyle based on personal values and priorities. It emphasizes the importance of aligning financial goals with personal fulfillment, allowing for greater flexibility and the ability to pursue non-traditional career paths or meaningful endeavors.
Overall, FIRE is a movement that encourages mindful financial planning, disciplined saving, and strategic investing to achieve financial independence and the freedom to retire early. It provides a roadmap for individuals to take control of their finances and create a life that aligns with their dreams and aspirations.

Chetta, you have given an example of a person who does not have any discretionary income. If that person invests the yearly salary increment of 10%, how will he manage the inflation for that 25 years of investing? Even though the rate of inflation stated by the government is 6% or 7%, the actual is north of 10% or 12%, take the example of petrol prices, gas, electricity, vegetables, bread, health insurance, school fees, etc. So, a person without any discretionary income will not be able to invest his 10% increment per year. Moreover, he may not be able to invest even Rs. 7,500 after a few years due to the rising inflation all around the world. I find it to be a bit misleading to have 3.2 crores after 25 years. Realistically, the total sum after 25 years would be 1.5 crore without a step-up of 10%. Could you please provide an explanation for this?

Hi Bro, There is nothing called a best option. If so, everyone in the world would have opted for that. Good stocks, index funds, large cap mutual funds, long term bonds might all possibly give you 12% returns annually. Always consider to manage risk as well if anything goes wrong.
