For those who have issues with the colours on the screen, there’s something called Vibrant Deck. It allows you to change the colour saturation and make them brighter

Yeah it`s pretty basic and, what I`ve wanted for a long time. (In between a console when docked and a full blown PC. That's hard to beat. See ya later Playstation and Xbox as there now is a 3rd option that isn't a very expensive gaming PC).

@Quantum TV Valve was already selling the Steam Deck at a loss using an OLED screen would make it way more expensive and they'd lose even more money, heck Gabe Newell himself said the decision to sell the Steam Deck at the price they are was painful.

Funny thing is the steam deck allows you to get plugins, and one of these plugins allows you to see if a game is working on the steam deck or not but it's input is by the community not by valve. "ProtonDB Badges" is the name of it, people can post on it whether a game works or not, or if you have to do anything extra to get the game working and it gives ratings from Bronze > Platinum with Bronze being it probably won't work and Platinum meaning that you can launch it and should be just a plug and play experience. Also if he has a very expensive computer, he can just use remote play and play all of those games on his steam deck from his windows PC. I bought the $600 model and I've been enjoying it since day 1, such a good device imo.

I’m playing through Red Dead Redemption 2, have about 20 hours in it. I think it crashed maybe twice but it was during long play times. Running 40fps. Plus I’ve never had a Linux device and yet I haven’t had any issues with learning how to use it so I can get all my emulators and non steam games, and it didn’t take long. I completely believe he is just making these reviews to piss people off. Like you said, if you can download the game, you can absolutely look up if a game works or not. Also he made a big deal about downloading games over 100gb but his example is a game that is 5gb. Mountain out of a mole hill for someone who doesn’t want to take 20 minutes to learn how to use it. This device is amazing and he is just starting shit for views.
Long story short you can run anything on the SteamDeck any game even if its not 'officialy' supported. As long as its windows executable u can boot it up with proton. Didnt have any game so far single player which would not work. so its win win situation anyway.
To be fair the screen isn't great. People have pointed it out and even made plugins to combat the issue but this is a great device for the money. This device is a pc not a Switch. It's going to have some kind of learning curve. Also, I as well as many others have downloaded games to try them out on the device and posted gameplay on UA-cam. Also Steam has a great return policy so you can get a refund if a game doesn't work. Even my 70 year old parents research their purchases online. The internet is so amazing for that. Way better than before we had it. 😊
He didn't launch that game through Emudeck on game mode, he launched it through the desktop lone emulator, which isn't set up and of course wouldn't have button mappings.
personally I got a steam deck because I didn't mind doing a little tinkering if it meant I could play PC games on a mobile device smaller than a laptop. However, even after I got it I was really surprised just how intuitive it is, like you don't even have to manually set up controls unless it's a non-steam game half the time. Plus I play some games that are unsupported by default on the steam deck, like they actually don't work even on proton 7, but they end up working just fine after I got ProtonGE, after that I've literally not had a problem with a single game on the deck besides Overwatch 2 (which has a freezing bug but supposedly that can be fixed by running it through bottles instead, but I didn't really play it much on the deck anyway, just wanted to see if it would work) Another thing I didn't expect was a pretty good solution to the mouse problem on FPS games, I'm still not used to it but I feel like I could get pretty good at aiming by mixing use of the touchpads and gyro
Over 6000 games are marked as at least playable, even then untested and unsupported games can work great. Like sonic adventure or quake are untested and unsupported yet they run great
For the digimon "bug" he has, my guess is that he is running it in desktop mode and steam is not active which is then why the buttons don't respond. Which he most likely did on purpose to prove a point that doesn't exist.
The steam store tells you if a game is steam deck verified, and he ignores the warning and still buys an unsupported game and download it. It's like complaining he bought a game on playstation and complains it does not work on his xbox, because it is still the same game. As for what unsupported game that does work on the steam deck, there's a tool call ProtonDB where the community does verified it themselves. There's really no need to research it themselves, because the community already done it for everyone. There's an add-on for the steam deck that display a protondb badge on the game if it is supported or not.
It would be concerning if the fans were not running to some degree of loudness. Otherwise it would burn people's hands after multiple hours of gameplay 😂
it even says what is the reason the game is "not compatible" on the store page.. usually it is stuff like "the text is too small" or "shows the wrong controls". it usually just runs anything fine.

QTV is like that kind of people that has been complaining because the Steam Deck can't game at 4K 120 FPS and stay at 99% of battery after 24 hours of gaming while also begging the device was smaller
Devi'ls advocate, Valve put way too much work on their shoulders testing every single game. They could have easily used the power of the community and have some kind of system where users can post recommended settings to make each game work and have others vote on it. You still would want a distinction between Valve tested and community tested but it would be redirected to the top voted community guide when launching the game. It also doesn't help that untested games are given the same label as games that are tested and don't work.
It is pretty sad how "whimsical" is an excuse to rail on a product he doesn't understand. Doesn't matter if Quantum makes as much money as Elon Musk or Jeff Bezo - not doing research is his fault, and the device works the same for everybody. If he bought it on a whim - he can return it on a whim, instead of railing against something he doesn't understand. Valve has actually been pretty good with their support, I'm sure he'd get his money back. It's like complaining about buying a new type of candy for a few cents and making a lengthy multi-part series about how it turns out you didn't like it. Okay, but a lot of people like it. The funny thing about this is he says he wants the SD to work like a console but he also wants to install an emulator and play games that aren't *officially* supported, as if you could play unsupported games on a switch without a lot of hassle. If he wanted a pure console experience then he should stick with playing games that are great on deck.

11:18 I kind of disagree on that, on the first glance maybe, but if you consider maybe this library of steam game that contain, yeah allmost every game possible for decades, even non steam games run on this thing. Its just astronomical and unrealistic to demand that every possible game on steam should run out of the box. No other console has done that before, valve just leaves you the option if you wanna deep dive, therefore they did the verrification system for people who wont and its okay to not want to. But dear god imagine a grown up man bashing a product he didnt make sure can run his games. It takes you literaly a view seconds to open up steam on your pc and filter your library for verrified games, if titles that you want arent there and you dont want to do a quick google search to set them up to run, allmost everything i tried up to this point does, just dont buy it. Only exception are some really niche titles like visual novells, if you into those you might have a hard time, there are many especially older ones which simply wont run no matter what you gonna try, but again those are extremly niche, considering most of them are eroges and many arent even aviable on steam. But there comes again the fact that you cant really expect that, its an open platform, its the nature of the beast to tinker with it at least to some point. Most ridicoulous thing is of course how he brings up emulation on this thing again, how come someone wants to emulate shit and doesnt look it up? He cant do it on Windows, here he is straight up lying, its way way easier with emudeck, wich is basicly a script which sets up almost everything for you, within legal space of course, you still have to look up or dump bios, key files and roms for your own, but this is also the case on Windows.

I totally support Valve's decision not to include a kick stand, detachable controller or any movable or modular parts on the Steam Deck. Movable and modular parts are far more likely to break than a solid unit. This decision makes the unit far more durable. And kickstands are easily added aftermarket for those who want one.
I’m a tv expert and while I would love an OLED the steam deck screen falls in the hood enough catagory. I NEVER have had an issue with fan noise. I got one late so they may have addressed it but idk
My critique on quantum. I get there are problems, it's not for everyone but most of the issues he faced were because you didn't do enough research. He didn't read the instructions on the emu deck website before downloading. He didn't check game compatibility before you bought it. The nature of steam is much more free (to developers at least) than console. With switch nintendo has some sort of sign off on everything that gets sold. On steam there are even games that don't even run on pc due to devs producing garbage. It may be these are legitimate issues but its sort of in an early adopter stage. Valve doesn't market it as such but it is. He said console companies don't release game that just don't work on their platform. Nintendo did exactly that with the 3ds with the new badge and even with the dsi for a few games. The steam deck not supporting many if not most steam games is like not meeting the minimus requirements. Devs cannot make their game compatible with every hardware configuration just as they might not have had the foresight to make it compatible with linux. The other thing is the choice of linux may not just have been about costs, microsoft has complete control over windows and if they wanted to they could easily put valve out of business. Linux is about distancing valve from microsoft. I think there will continue to be growing pains but gaming on linux coming from the steam deck offers a choice and I believe that is wonderful. Also, the steam deck (base model which is perfectly acceptable to buy) is only 50 dollars more than the switch oled and the steam deck can literally emulate switch.
The fan noise has always baffled me. On the one hand I'm always using earbuds and can never hear them, and no one in my family has said it's noticeably loud when we're in the car. My deck has only ever gotten somewhat loud when I have the vent hole covered. Quantum is also a clown for saying that the steam deck isn't a great experience. the games run well and the deck feels great in my hands and my friends hands as well (my hands are small and everyone else's are big). I love being able to play MGR when I'm in the car for multiple hours at a time.
5:03 As someone who has emulated a fair bit on 2 different steam decks (Had to get one for my wife or I would never get to play mine) does this happen?....Yes, yes it does if you do not configure the emulator correctly, Valve allows emulation, it doesn't support it. By emulating, you are doing something the device is not meant to do, so there is no out of the box experience, and guys doing emudeck have made this as painless as possible, but you still need to follow directions, and as we know, Quantum cant read let alone follow directions.
The screen is fine. It is working as intended and it is an IPS which is very common on monitors and tvs. Of course OLED would be awesome, but the price probably will increase by at least $50. You can replace the screen into OLED by yourself at this very moment if you want
"Colors are very bad" To this day, TN screens dominate lower to mid end gaming monitors and laptops. TN panels are the worst type when it comes to color accuracy or saturation, with its main advantage being that high refresh rates are achievable with less cost. You can spend $1000 on a gaming laptop, and have a worse screen than the Deck. You can spend $400 on a monitor, and have a worse screen (color wise) than the deck.

I have an OLED Switch. The screen is great for sure. But I'm mostly playing the Steam Deck these days, because frankly I play games to have fun, regardless of how pretty the screen looks. Also - even though the saturation and black levels are better on the OLED Switch, the Steam Deck still has better overall graphical quality due to the extra processing power.
The switch fans also do that regardless of if you're playing a game or not. Game systems and computers just get hot, that's what electricity does, I took several computer science classes

Funny thing is the steam deck allows you to get plugins, and one of these plugins allows you to see if a game is working on the steam deck or not but it's input is by the community not by valve. "ProtonDB Badges" is the name of it, people can post on it whether a game works or not, or if you have to do anything extra to get the game working and it gives ratings from Bronze > Platinum with Bronze being it probably won't work and Platinum meaning that you can launch it and should be just a plug and play experience. Also if he has a very expensive computer, he can just use remote play and play all of those games on his steam deck from his windows PC. I bought the $600 model and I've been enjoying it since day 1, such a good device imo.

I’m playing through Red Dead Redemption 2, have about 20 hours in it. I think it crashed maybe twice but it was during long play times. Running 40fps. Plus I’ve never had a Linux device and yet I haven’t had any issues with learning how to use it so I can get all my emulators and non steam games, and it didn’t take long. I completely believe he is just making these reviews to piss people off. Like you said, if you can download the game, you can absolutely look up if a game works or not. Also he made a big deal about downloading games over 100gb but his example is a game that is 5gb. Mountain out of a mole hill for someone who doesn’t want to take 20 minutes to learn how to use it. This device is amazing and he is just starting shit for views.
Long story short you can run anything on the SteamDeck any game even if its not 'officialy' supported. As long as its windows executable u can boot it up with proton. Didnt have any game so far single player which would not work. so its win win situation anyway.

To be fair the screen isn't great. People have pointed it out and even made plugins to combat the issue but this is a great device for the money. This device is a pc not a Switch. It's going to have some kind of learning curve. Also, I as well as many others have downloaded games to try them out on the device and posted gameplay on UA-cam. Also Steam has a great return policy so you can get a refund if a game doesn't work. Even my 70 year old parents research their purchases online. The internet is so amazing for that. Way better than before we had it. 😊

personally I got a steam deck because I didn't mind doing a little tinkering if it meant I could play PC games on a mobile device smaller than a laptop. However, even after I got it I was really surprised just how intuitive it is, like you don't even have to manually set up controls unless it's a non-steam game half the time. Plus I play some games that are unsupported by default on the steam deck, like they actually don't work even on proton 7, but they end up working just fine after I got ProtonGE, after that I've literally not had a problem with a single game on the deck besides Overwatch 2 (which has a freezing bug but supposedly that can be fixed by running it through bottles instead, but I didn't really play it much on the deck anyway, just wanted to see if it would work)
Another thing I didn't expect was a pretty good solution to the mouse problem on FPS games, I'm still not used to it but I feel like I could get pretty good at aiming by mixing use of the touchpads and gyro

Tested the new Quake Remaster and it work wonders. Same goes for Sonic Adventure, even going as far as to mod it with the Dreamcastify mod.
For the digimon "bug" he has, my guess is that he is running it in desktop mode and steam is not active which is then why the buttons don't respond.
Which he most likely did on purpose to prove a point that doesn't exist.

The steam store tells you if a game is steam deck verified, and he ignores the warning and still buys an unsupported game and download it. It's like complaining he bought a game on playstation and complains it does not work on his xbox, because it is still the same game.
As for what unsupported game that does work on the steam deck, there's a tool call ProtonDB where the community does verified it themselves. There's really no need to research it themselves, because the community already done it for everyone. There's an add-on for the steam deck that display a protondb badge on the game if it is supported or not.

Devi'ls advocate, Valve put way too much work on their shoulders testing every single game. They could have easily used the power of the community and have some kind of system where users can post recommended settings to make each game work and have others vote on it. You still would want a distinction between Valve tested and community tested but it would be redirected to the top voted community guide when launching the game. It also doesn't help that untested games are given the same label as games that are tested and don't work.
I ALWAYS do my research before buying something & even if it doesn’t work right out of the box, you usually only have to make a few minor adjustments.
It is pretty sad how "whimsical" is an excuse to rail on a product he doesn't understand. Doesn't matter if Quantum makes as much money as Elon Musk or Jeff Bezo - not doing research is his fault, and the device works the same for everybody. 11:18 I kind of disagree on that, on the first glance maybe, but if you consider maybe this library of steam game that contain, yeah allmost every game possible for decades, even non steam games run on this thing. Its just astronomical and unrealistic to demand that every possible game on steam should run out of the box. No other console has done that before, valve just leaves you the option if you wanna deep dive, therefore they did the verrification system for people who wont and its okay to not want to. But dear god imagine a grown up man bashing a product he didnt make sure can run his games. It takes you literaly a view seconds to open up steam on your pc and filter your library for verrified games, if titles that you want arent there and you dont want to do a quick google search to set them up to run, allmost everything i tried up to this point does, just dont buy it. Only exception are some really niche titles like visual novells, if you into those you might have a hard time, there are many especially older ones which simply wont run no matter what you gonna try, but again those are extremly niche, considering most of them are eroges and many arent even aviable on steam. But there comes again the fact that you cant really expect that, its an open platform, its the nature of the beast to tinker with it at least to some point.

I totally support Valve's decision not to include a kick stand, detachable controller or any movable or modular parts on the Steam Deck.
Movable and modular parts are far more likely to break than a solid unit. This decision makes the unit far more durable. And kickstands are easily added aftermarket for those who want one.
I’m a tv expert and while I would love an OLED the steam deck screen falls in the hood enough catagory. I NEVER have had an issue with fan noise. I got one late so they may have addressed it but idk

My critique on quantum. I get there are problems, it's not for everyone but most of the issues he faced were because you didn't do enough research. He didn't read the instructions on the emu deck website before downloading. He didn't check game compatibility before you bought it. The nature of steam is much more free (to developers at least) than console. With switch nintendo has some sort of sign off on everything that gets sold. On steam there are even games that don't even run on pc due to devs producing garbage. It may be these are legitimate issues but its sort of in an early adopter stage. Valve doesn't market it as such but it is. He said console companies don't release game that just don't work on their platform. Nintendo did exactly that with the 3ds with the new badge and even with the dsi for a few games. The steam deck not supporting many if not most steam games is like not meeting the minimus requirements. Devs cannot make their game compatible with every hardware configuration just as they might not have had the foresight to make it compatible with linux. The other thing is the choice of linux may not just have been about costs, microsoft has complete control over windows and if they wanted to they could easily put valve out of business. Linux is about distancing valve from microsoft. I think there will continue to be growing pains but gaming on linux coming from the steam deck offers a choice and I believe that is wonderful. Also, the steam deck (base model which is perfectly acceptable to buy) is only 50 dollars more than the switch oled and the steam deck can literally emulate switch.

The fan noise has always baffled me. On the one hand I'm always using earbuds and can never hear them, and no one in my family has said it's noticeably loud when we're in the car. My deck has only ever gotten somewhat loud when I have the vent hole covered.
Quantum is also a clown for saying that the steam deck isn't a great experience. the games run well and the deck feels great in my hands and my friends hands as well (my hands are small and everyone else's are big). I love being able to play MGR when I'm in the car for multiple hours at a time.

By emulating, you are doing something the device is not meant to do, so there is no out of the box experience, and guys doing emudeck have made this as painless as possible, but you still need to follow directions, and as we know, Quantum cant read let alone follow directions.
The screen is fine. It is working as intended and it is an IPS which is very common on monitors and tvs. Of course OLED would be awesome, but the price probably will increase by at least $50. You can replace the screen into OLED by yourself at this very moment if you want

To this day, TN screens dominate lower to mid end gaming monitors and laptops. TN panels are the worst type when it comes to color accuracy or saturation, with its main advantage being that high refresh rates are achievable with less cost. You can spend $1000 on a gaming laptop, and have a worse screen than the Deck. You can spend $400 on a monitor, and have a worse screen (color wise) than the deck.
I got the steam deck as my 1st computer gaming device and I love it took me literally a UA-cam short to figure out how to install emudeck😂

About the kickstand. The Nintendo had detachable Controllers the steam deck not so there is no use for a kickstand for an normal switch.
I have an OLED Switch. The screen is great for sure. But I'm mostly playing the Steam Deck these days, because frankly I play games to have fun, regardless of how pretty the screen looks. Also - even though the saturation and black levels are better on the OLED Switch, the Steam Deck still has better overall graphical quality due to the extra processing power.
The switch fans also do that regardless of if you're playing a game or not. Game systems and computers just get hot, that's what electricity does, I took several computer science classes
