After watching your video, I used a hair drier to soften the liquid nails on my bathroom wall tiles, that worked perfectly to scrape off the liquid nails. Cheers :-)
Great!
Even after 3 year. Your posting is helpful. Thank you 👍🏾
Great to hear!
My heat gun worked! Had 60 yr old hideous wood paneling in my granny’s house. Melted that glue in 3 seconds so happy!
That's great news!
Suggest you heat the scraper to concentrate the heat underneath the glue like a hot knife.
It worked and you did exactly what the title said but for some reason 1 in 5 people chose to dislike it.
We don't get no love :-)
Glad you posted this. You’re right. Not many (or any) vids online using Heat Gun. I’m going to try it to soften & remove Silicone Caulk in the ceramic bathtub. 🙏 Thanks.
Great! Take it slow and don't scrape too hard or you'll go through the silver backing. Good luck!
Gettin' Belizy -Yep, gonna try on a inconspicuous place back of the tub. Thanks.
Many thanks!!!
I have to remove a million of these globs from an 8 foot concrete wall.
After spending an hour chiseling them off of a two square foot area, I found you on Google.
Clear sailing the rest of the way. You’re a lifesaver!
Great news! Glad it helped!
This is great, gonna use this method to take off ceramic tile from my bathroom walls. House was built in '63 so my joint compound has asbestos. This will avoid making any of that go airborne. Good stuff!
Wow, good thinking? Let us know how it goes!
How did you guys remove the mirror from the wall in the first place?
I can deal with removing the glue from the back of the mirror but getting off the wall to begin is another story.
To be honest, the first time we attempted mirror removal, we assumed we would break the glass. But, we've successfully removed three now with no problems. The key is gradual, SLOW pressure. Get under one corner with a stiff putty knife and pry gradually but firmly. As soon as you can get a hand in, you should be set. Continue the same gradual pressure with your hands while a partner helps with the putty knife. Keep moving the pressure point closer and closer to the glued area so that glass doesn't try to bend. The adhesive does take time to release, but constant and gradual pressure should allow the glue to let go from the wall. We did have an advantage of having wallpaper on the walls where we removed mirrors. The paper backing on the wallpaper gave way and allowed us to get the mirror down rather quickly. Painted walls might be a fair bit trickier. No matter what, assume you will have to do some substantial wall repair afterwards.
Good luck!
Looks pretty simple and easy! Thanks for sharing! 😊
Excellent! Thank you. This will save me some time!
Good luck!
Thanks for the tip! In addition to a heat gun and scraper I'd suggest a mask or respirator? Who knows what chemicals are in the liquid nails that you're heating up and breathing in...also some shoes but that's not necessary LOL
Ha. Very true.
It would probably help if you started heating the edge of the glue spot first, instead of the center
how do you manage not to crack the mirror with the heat?
I think we got lucky with that. You run the risk of cracking the glass any time you super heat an area like that. We worked on it in a very out-of-the-way area and were certain not to bump or touch is until it was fully cooled.
Thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for. ^^
Great! Good luck!
Lifesaver! Moved into house where some intelligent person put carpet in basement bathroom on top of concrete floor.
😖
All the tacking strips were installed using liquid nails. ☹️ I’ve been trying to remove using chisel and hammer, getting no where fast. I’m thinking this will do the trick! Thanks so much for putting this to UA-cam!
Good luck!
How did that work out for you? Got the exact same challenge!!!
How were you able to remove the mirror from the wall without breaking it? Have good days!
We were removing the old wallpaper anyway so we used a thin prybar and gently pried from all edges. The glue took wallpaper and some drywall paper with it but didn't break. There was some luck involved.
That's a great hack man! Thanks for sharing this great solution! Any idea how hot your heatgun was? Does your heatgun have an indicator of the temperature? Thanks in advance! :)
No, it's a cheapo from Harbor Freight. It got very hot. :-)
I broke my mirror using this method. I think the reason was that I did not lay the mirror down flat, and maybe I was too aggressive with the heat?
Likely exactly why it broke. And you can easily scrape through the foil back as well which also ruins the mirror. It is a delicate process and I think we benefited from luck as much as skill.
It’s more important and efficient to heat the metal putty knife than the big blob of glue.
Hey, that's a very interesting idea. Did you try it? Did the silver backing withstand the heated knife?
That's great, but how did you get it off the wall in the first place?
It pulled off the old drywall fairly easily. Took the paper backing with the glue.
so satisfying
I need to do something like this but after double checking with your video I'm doing it.
Thanks
Good luck!
Genius previous owner of my boat used Liquid nails. Wondering if the heat gun is ok to use on fibreglass?
I would try a much cooler heat gun than this for fiberglass.
@@GettinBelizy Thanks, worked perfectly.
Would this work for removing molding from a mirror. Don't want to break the mirror with the heat gun
Not sure. The mirror did get extremely hot but I don't think it would have cracked. But, also, not sure just heat would loosen the glue enough - it took a combo of heat and scraping for us.
Just pulled wood panelling off of my walls, going to give this a shot. Head down to the hardware store and buy a heat gun.
My thoughts exactly...
Since it has been a few months... Did it work?
Man that glue was put on yesterdayI could scrape it with only a scraper I was hoping I could find a video with old glue on there for years on sheetrock I can't take mine off
Nope. The mirror was hung when the house was built in 1998. I think that's why we had to heat it for so long. This method will ONLY work with hard, nonporous surfaces. Sheet rock is covered in a layer of paper (as porous as it gets). You will never scrape adhesive off paper. Now, you could peel the adhesive and paper backing off and fix with wall plaster - but that's a completely different topic.
@@GettinBelizy damn ok. Thanks
Good luck!
One mistake with the heat gun and you could shatter the mirror.
Yup. But, worth a shot before buying a new mirror anyway.
