Nailed it with , "don't wait for it to be perfect". Because you don't know what's perfect for you until you start doing it. I went from a van to a trailer to a truck camper and finally got a 4x4 with a shell on it. Why? Because as I started going places and spending time, I discovered I needed very little space and creature comforts and loved going down the road that's far less traveled.
I'm with you Radnally. I sometimes think about getting something bigger, but my Astro can do so much! Most of the time I'm outside anyway! ~Jamie
Exactly ! I use the truck to put myself in places where I can be outside every minute I'm not sleeping. Sure, sometimes it rains, but I can handle the odd rainy time inside because it is so rare.
"You do not own your house your house owns you." I like that...
.....the gov't owns your house......pay those thousands on annual lease or else.......never mind that you paid a half mill for it......:(
Good for you Phillip!
Yay Phillip! I'll be right there with you soon.
Anytime I see one of your posts, I think of a has-been cop who failed at their job.
You make me sick You remind me of a damn loser that has to hate on everyone else

Great interview, Jamie!
Excellent video, great interview. Awesome interviewee! The who, what, when, where and why fors never get old. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, RT. I don't always get it perfect, but I'm trying! ~Jamie
Sooner then later, Good words to live by.
I had been following his channel but then he up and stopped posting vids. loved his photos of the night sky and watching his corgi run. hope he gets back to making vids.
great attitude. thinking about coming to Quartzsite before thanksgiving. peace
Great Viewpoints, ......I feel the same about living free in my Van! I love doing what I want! Just do it is Correct!
That's about least stealthiest van on the road. Works for him, that's great. I would not want to attract all the attention. Cute dog. Interesting interview. Thanks to all.
Just awesome! What a neat guy, sounds like he's on the right track in life. Love all of your videos, I get excited when y'all put up a new one!!!!
Thanks Jamie! I was so excited to see the tour...... Whaa whaa, whaa, whaaaaa.... oh well, maybe he'll show us a follow up some day!! Great message!
Lauri
I like to see the windows they look unique
Love it... #freedom
Excellent interview, thanks.
When you find cheap RV living .com you strike FREEDOM GOLD ! This group is one of the best groups when it comes to getting the straight dope on rubber tramping.
Great advice and an interesting van. 👍🏽
Great video, Jamie. Thanks so much.
Your welcome crepella4. Glad you enjoyed it!
ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO,,KEEP STICKING IT TO THE MAN....BE OUT YOUR WAY SOON.
This is one of the best videos on van and rv living great insight and questions and answers. Thanks. Ive been looking for used motorhomes online and am getting ready to join this lifestyle in a month or so thanks for addressing the fears of being on the road and the great people in the community. like he said dont wait for things to be perfect..and i also dont want to waste any more of my life renting in a home wishing I could have the freedom of this lifestyle. Im doing this soon
Good for you! I think alot of people let fear ruin their lives. Just go for it, live your dream. Enjoy the adventure :-)
It was a nice little traileryou had on that video you had a while back James look like a nice little trailer to
that Corgi is one badass dog.
Great video nice set up
awesome window covers
Before he goes nuts about having to hunch over to get around remember we people in PRIUS runaway sets have to slither around in our camper I assure you life is good in a van when you can stand with your legs at least.
fun video
I'm jealous! 😃
Great interview
Good interview! What a unique van.... I was wondering about the attention it would draw making it hard to stealth camp. Glad you addressed that issue. The van looks realistic as being an official Zombie van, like maybe used in a movie...lol!
Love your channel, thanks for posting the video.
I love love love these interviews and I love my Tank!!
This is one of my favorite videos if you listen to everything said you guys go over some very good valid points and fears and explain things so well. I rent at families home at the moment spending time with them that I missed in the past. I bought a ford explorer a 2003 that would work for this lifestyle i need to sell my other car before i leave or just have family look over it. I really researched this lifestyle and love the lifestyle I realized a used class c motorhome is what I am needing so can take the dog and a family member if needed with me sometimes and also stay in rv parks if needed.I work for myself as far as my job goes so thats mobile. Ive never done this lifestyle so my concern was people knocking on the door at night etc..probably not common as he said. Awesome video and answers to concerns people have. You guys seem great would love to meet up one day thanks for all these amazing videos.
He has made a few videos on his channel, wish he would make more!
What an encouraging video!
James, your heart didn't seem to be engaged for the video? Not only is that dark gray a heat magnet, the flat finish isn't very reflective. Maybe it's not bad with the fans and insulation...??
Hey David. Yes, I like Phillip very much. Maybe just having an off day. He bought the van as is and may well end up changing it or moving on. The original designers were weekenders. I see you point.
Cute Corgi. Alaska! Love it. So enticing.
Lucky fella. Have fun.
My son wanted me to black out T-Rex. I couldn't do it but looks good on your rig.
Those windows look kind of interesting.. I noticed the doors on the outside open up. Are these custom or something you can buy off the shelf.?
Nice job, Jamie.
Thanks, Lawrence. Phillip is a great guy that I hope to see somewhere down the trail. ~Jamie
Look like a young bob.
love all your videos, been wanted to be a full time Rver for years but vandweling is much much better no big rig to drive or pull...thanks for sharing
I feel the same way Janeth. A smaller rig is much less expensive to maintain and gets into some great camp spots! ~Jamie
Totally relatable!
I really like the deer blinds. I bet the heat pours right out of them.
......"got any last words?"......lol........vids like this really simplify the mental on approaching this lifestyle......ty......:)
You guys do great stuff. Would it be possible to get some lights on what you are filming? It is hard to see in the dark. Other than that, good job...happy motoring....Jack (-:
Thanks, Jack! I'll see what I can do with the lighting! ~Jamie
I think a van would be really cool a lot of people want to get the B class camper and I thought about that too but more and more that I watch your channel I really dig the scene where people are doing it their own way it's their own thing as their own creation they get that van and they make it how it's going to suit them best you know they didn't go out and spend 120 or $140,000 on something that isn't going to really retain its value anyway you get a van that you like and you start turning that into the home that you want it to be that's what I really dig seeing how everybody does it and how they've got things arranged and see what works best for them it's real life people do in real life things nothing artificial really dig that I think one thing I would like to do when I get my van I seen a thing online where you can get hightops for them I don't know if I could put a hightop in by myself or not but I'm thinking if I could find a body shop that does reasonable work I could have them cut a hole in the top in and install it for me I seen one called the camper special and I thought that would really be cool it'd probably still end up being far less than a class b ,,,then also like Bob said get a runaway camper to
Cool looking van. What year is it?
What a good job.
Another great interview Jamie !! Off subject but could you tell me what brand of metal pump up sprayer you use for your showers. I've scoured the internet looking for one but cant seem to find one. Thanks Buddy! Keep up the good work.
Thanks, Nomad. I pieced mine together from parts off of Ebay and Home Depot, but when it craps out, I'm getting this one: amzn.to/2dump4Q
Thanks Brotha for the quick reply!! Yeah, that looks awesome!! Thank you for the link!!
nice and simple. as well as under construction..
I so want to travel more with my bus but a limited / minimal income has its effects to that, as well as maintaining a E350 with a 7.3 ltr diesel. peace!
at least you get better mileage than gas and can pull better, that will save you money
oh yea I get about 16- 18 MPG. just $ is gone before ya know it.
Yes, this oil changes alone can be expensive Blue Bus. I say do whatever you need to and make it happen! ~Jamie
i plan on it Jamie, tired of being stuck in one place.. I got a do some repairs before I hit the road. gona try to get everything I need over winter, then bang that stuff out in the spring and split for the summer.
Just sold our beautiful boat and now the stress and anxiety level and crushing money burn is behind me and what a relief.
Sold one of our nice cars too.
Don't miss either one.
A simple trip in our raggity ass trailer is all the cheap fun we need.
What price contentment?
Rifle port out the side... awesome!!!! Another great rubber tramp, proving the lifestyle is out there!!!
Thank you for another awesome interview!! Word..lol ;)
NEVER LET PERFECTION GET IN THE WAY OF GETTING ON WITH GOOD ENOUGH ! GET YOUR TIRES FROM WALMART MAKE SURE YOU GET THEM INSURED AND YOU CAN GET THEM ROTATED WHEN THEY NEED, YOU CAN GET YOUR TIRES REPLACED IF YOU LOSE ONE ON THE ROAD. MY WIFE BLEW OUT 2 TIRES AND THEY REPLACED BOTH OF THEM. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND PRICE WALMART BEFORE YOU GO GET TIRES !
Good interview. Another happy camper. Do you plan to go back to Mexico this year. If you do can you get into the difficulties of crossing the border going both ways. Do you need passport and things like that. Thanks Jim.
Thanks James. Yea, going back down. I have a series about Baja from my last trip here: ua-cam.com/video/TWs1x8kISRY/v-deo.html
I am stuck on which van to buy. Someone had a white, 1991 Ford Econline E150 6 cyl 300 engine, with a high top and cargo interior (blank slate instead of plush pimp-mobile lol) exactly what I wanted with 50,000 miles on it. But he wanted $5000 for it and it's 25 years old.....I was stuck worrying that it would need all new everything constantly. Any feedback would be great. I already read Bob's excellent book, it's a reference guide/bible! I didn't think I'd get stuck on which vehicle to get.
We all make mistakes along the way Liz. Have a mechanic check the one you choose out and go for it if it is cleared for purchase. Best of luck to you! ~Jamie
Hello James. Can you tell me why so many of your videos are coming up as private and cannot be viewed?? So far there are 4. Thanks.
These interviews are great and a wealth of information however you can't help but think why don't people buy better vans.
Ray Sater - Not everyone can afford the ridiculous price of new/newer vans. After all, you will be drilling and cutting holes for fans, solar panels etc. I wouldn't buy a new van to do that to. Many people buy a $1500 van and live in it for years. Many are on a fixed income such as social security or disability and are trying to survive on $500 a month. The entire idea is to live a frugal lifestyle and have more fun and work less while young. I'd rather have the $30,000 that I'd spend for a new van in the bank for fun travel and just pay cash for a $1500 van. Maybe it would eventually need a new transmission or an engine overhaul soon. Still WAY cheaper than a a newer van. Many have lost their jobs they once had here that are now in other countries, leaving them homeless. I could go on and on but surely you see my point. ✌🏼️
"Better" is subjective, and different things are better to different people. These old cargo vans are meant to last many, many miles and if you find one in good shape, you can expect it to last for quite a long time. Also, many people who start vandwelling aren't sure how long they will do it for - so they don't necessarily need a brand new van that will last 20 years. Some people also have a preference to use older things rather than just buying new which requires more natural resources, energy, etc. to be used.
Yea, stringbender. For me, all I could afford was a $2,000 Astro and I took what little I had left over and bought a heater, porty potty and some plywood for cabinets and a bed set-up. Maybe someday I can move up to a class B, but since I'm spoiled with high clearance and AWD, the bar is a little high. It really is all about getting out here in whatever you can and figuring things out from there. ~Jamie
Hey Phillip. Great videos. I hope to meet you someplace in January. I live in Tennessee. I am heading west the middle of January. I travel alone with a 13 ft. pull behind fiberglass camper. It is called a Burro. I pull it with a burgandy color Nissan Frontier. I hope to meet up with Bob Wells too. Chiefonelung
This Nerdy Guy Named Bob suggested I Sub this Channel so I did.
What about feeling lonely? That concerns me - I am seriously thinking about getting out on the road next spring.
I think that is one of the biggest challenges people seem to deal with, and biggest questions for newbies..and its different for everybody. I've been a Nomad for almost 14-years now, 11, of which I've been mostly on my own. I've had my lonely times, but the adventure, the anticipation, the challenge, the horizon seems to always take over. Personally, dancing around a camp fire with your favorite music will get me through a lonely, cold, long night night...but these days i have another option...I have found My Tribe, and any time I get lonely, I can find out where they are at, and join them for a while. I didn't have that before, going to the RTR in Q, was one of the most positive things in my life. I love my bungie-cord connections....
Very well said!
and there is a corgi ... all the best.
Who's gonna build (repair) and maintain the roads, bridges, restrooms, etc. that this lifestyle utilizes everyday? Can you maintain a bridge on the net?
fuel taxes. same thing that is supposed to now. if anything they pay more than most
Hell yeah!
+Paul Gillett amen!
Good vid Jamie except for not showing the zombie graphics.
Thumbs up...ENJOY....THE SIMPLE LIFE
He looks like George Clooney.
Yea, Phillip got a haircut soon after we shot this. He's a stud! ~Jamie
Pics or it didn't happen!
Great video! What a great message. My son, dog and I started out this month, without my husband because he doesn't want to live like this... sigh... BUT.. he is supporting my decision to do this and has even asked a few questions. Right now, we have a makeshift bedframe that holds a bed topper and our sleeping bags, blankets and pillows. There is 12 inches of storage space below the bed. I am wanting to change a couple of things. For example; I want to make the bedframe into a futon frame so the bed can turn into a couch. I also want to make a kitchen that pulls out from below the bed. Gotta figure out my fridge and water situation. As long as I know where to get free water, that will be helpful.
Anyway, check out our channel. We hope to be in Lake Havasu with you Nov. 1st, Jamie.
Take care..and as our motto goes: Don't forget to celebrate life.
Vantastic Freedom
Amanda, Stephen and Eli the dachshund.
I wonder... could I live in a Honda fit car? It's somewhat spacious...gets 41 mpg on highway....hmmmmm
I know people that do similar. You could bring a tent for that times you want to set it up and the huge advantage you would have is you could travel just about anywhere without much regard for fuel costs. I know a guy who lives off his motorcycle. This would be a huge step up in my opinion.
What are the forums he is talking about?

Hey what happened to the interview of Jerry?
Yes, Brandt. Bob and I have split and I'm afraid he has insisted
anything with him in them needed to be removed. I am sorry about this and
will rebuild the channel as close as it was before, without that concern,
moving forward. ~Jamie
Hey Jamie understood sometimes things change in the natural change of events that's natural. Will Bob be allowed to take all of his content and putting it up on another channel? I've enjoyed the content and wanted to show my fiance the Jerry interview in particular because she is a creative and i know his setup would fire her up. Hopefully you two can find a way to amicably share all of the content you have made to date, and i look forward to watching both of your content in the future. This was a phenomenal interview btw and very inspiring.

Good interview but a guy that's only been doing it such a short time only sees thru rose color sun glasses
A vehicle with tattoos!
The AMERICAN DREAM...work a job 40 to 60 hrs a week...pay a house payment for 30 years...WHO said this is the american dream...the people that want to make a SLAVE of you...!!! Once you pay the house 30 years later...he he he...depending on where you live...you PAY the county and or state for the privilege of living in YOUR OWN home... GOVANDING...
so, really, u r still working right,I mean how really free r u????u bin on the road a month and a half, you are not even on a good holiday yet, what about maintenance ,gas ,food, etc, and ya its fun initially, but when your savings run out,and u get tired of sneaking round trying to find a place to park,I mean i am just trying to see the WHOLE picture, there r way more things to consider ,other than exploring parks, and not having to punch a clock,or answer to the man,I worked 35 years ,paid my house off in 5 years, have been all over the world, also all over North America by motorcycle ,and still saved enough to retire at 53,now i have a monthly pension for life ,,and enough equity in my house to do whatever it is my heart desires,Its all in the planning and discipline, now thats true freedom
You sound hostile. Nobody is attacking your method. Ease up. My father had your EXACT plan and was killed at age 53. He never got to see the side your on now. There are no guarantees my friend. By my fathers standards, you got lucky.
hy your sound is not good lasy
I'm deaf? and I had no problems hearing it. The quality didn't sound off either.
What a horrible van... with the money he had to buy this lifestyle, he could have had a better van and customize it to be more comfortable.
That's funny. Hes a cool guy. Give him a break. Thanks for watching!
Can you have a sex life living in a van?
Only if you had a sex life before you moved into one.
Funniest thing I've read today!
You know what they say:

The dogs thinking,"for gods sake shut up".
Great interview.
