  • We are able to get a lot of power in this this Explorer Motorhome on a Hillux. The video shows the external hatch for the Lithium batteries and we highlight the change in regulations. A comment we read is that the new regulations only apply to Lithium Ion batteries and not Lithium Iron Phosphate. Well this is not correct. Lithium Ion is the broad category for all Lithium based batteries. The Ion movement is what creates the charging and discharging even in Lithium Iron Phosphate. The other fallacy we hear is that Lithium can be installed under the bed in a sealed area. That is not correct. They must be externally accessible. This is one of the main reasons for the change of regulations: First responders to a fire that may engulf lithium batteries have to get to the lithium batteries and handle them without opening the main RV door. It’s no good if they are “sealed” under a bed. That’s the opposite of what the regulations require. The video also shows two types on hot water: the 48V 8L tank which operates at 1,000W in the kitchen. It has the advantage of operating at the same time as full power on the inverter. Then in the shower area is the instant hot water operating at up to 50C but typically 40-45C from the cold water tank. This motorhome has 560W of Copperflex Solar on the roof plus 700W of portable solar. Thats enough replenishment power for the 600Ah of Lithium. As a backup to solar as well as general charging the Scotty AI will pump in 2000W at idle and up to 2500W from the larger 250A alternator. #howgoodsthat #traveltheworld #liveinaworld #withoutconsumingtheearth #hilux #explorer #Scotty #LC200 #48V #lithium #motorhome #solar #instanthotwater #48vhotwater

Can’t wait to get to it tomorrow, Bruce - well done to the Safiery team. I say that’s got to be one of the best power set-ups in a compact motorhome!

I'm slightly confused. This looks to be a fantastic system, perhaps one I could put into our truck camper setup, but the battery configuration has me mystified. You mention that the battery is 600Ah, is that at 12V or 48V? I can't imagine it is 24V, but I could be wrong. I would have thought using kWh for battery size is better, clearer and final.

Hi Allan. We do use kWh on our quotes and product descriptions. Its only in the UA-cam video i refer to 12V equiv because we have 3 years of messages challenging the Ah at 50V. We professionally dont use Ah. We use Watt Hours because the different voltages charging and discharging makes a difference.

Hi Bruce, I also own an Explorer MH and am anxious to know how much such an upgrade would cost me approximately?

Hi around 20k but regulations change and we would need to do some sealing from side locker as lithium is no longer allowed inside an RV . There must be external access to batteries in a sealed environment.

I just looked at our design board and we can copy this and seal the seat lid for 100% compliance as per this video

@@Safiery I am asking about the total rig... not just the upgrade... apparently its about $200,000 for the full vehicle.
