This was exactly what i was looking for! I generally struggle with when to push for the win, when to concede my hand and how to avoid dealing into other peoples hand. Of course there is so much more to learn, but this video helps me alot in regards to reading discards and the flow of the round. Thanks for the great content Crow. Can't wait for more match analysis :)

I think Riichi Book 1 has some good guidelines for when to push or fold. Have you read through that at all? It's a great stepping stone for beginner to intermediate players.

This is pretty helpful. I just started playing about a week ago, and found I have a natural aptitude for riichi majong. But I still see myself making beginner mistakes like tunnel vision on inside waits, or not taking the Dora into account when discarded orphan tiles. So seeing a more complete, forward thinking game plan in action really helps. I see how to think 3 or 4 draws ahead

Fantastic! Thanks for the feedback. I may continue to do things like this with either my games or others' games.

A great video! I'm getting back into mahjong after discovering final fantasy 14 has mahjong matchmaking.
I'm still working on deciphering the 'shapes' as you call them.

Thanks! Shapes can be a weird one to learn, since most common card games don't rely on things like that so heavily. At the beginning, try to look at it as flexibility- the more tiles that can upgrade your hand, the better! So, having a shape like 4567 can get a 2 sided run by drawing 3, 5, 6, or 8, but if a 4 has nothing connected to it, it can only make a 2 sided wait by drawing a 3 or 5. There's a lot more interactions like this, so for now, I'd recommend getting the games in, and building from there!

How you handled all those risky tiles in 東3 while still remaining tenpai was amazing. Very inspiring.
Also question: In your view, was it a good call of kamicha at 22:22 to stay dama? It’s such a strong wait that it seems worth it to chase with your own riichi. 258s were not safe against the first riichi so I don’t really see the value of staying dama.

      Thank you!
Regarding kamicha in S2... I think dama is fine there. There are tools/simulators out there (akochan comes to mind) that recommend riiching in this sort of position, but I find upper level players will typically dama a mentanpin dora 2 (pinfu tanyao dora 2, if you are unfamiliar with the term), just in general. If you look at it from their standpoint in this specific situation, maintaining dama allows them to:
      1) integrate a red 5p if they draw it, allowing a riichi for guaranteed haneman if they want it
      2) integrate a dora if they draw it, discarding the much safer 6m
      3) snipe off a tile that someone is pushing against the riichi- and pushing like that is very common in jokyuu rooms, but a lot less common into an early riichi from 2 players instead
So, especially this late in the game, I agree with the dama; a riichi only decreases their winning chance. A mangan to get out of last is of prime importance, especially for a 5d playing in jokyuu - losing the 105 points from a 4th would be painful.

@@Crow77 Ah, interesting. Good points. I'll try to incorporate that into my gameplay next time.
Edit: I just noticed that sliding to 345p after drawing (red) 5p also potentially allows sanshoku.
