Here are my thoughts on Emmet Sheehan: Sheehan has 3 pitches, a fastball with crazy arm side run, a changeup, and a slider. He also has a lower arm slot than normal. You could tell hitters started to expect the fastball in the later innings, but it’s an extremely good one and they weren’t quite able to hit one out of the park. I think combined with some better off-speed stuff the fastball will be able to fool batters throughout the entire game. I like the changeup since it is very similar to the fastball, besides the fact that he takes 13 MPH off of it. It didn’t get any whiffs though, and that’s where you need the slider to come in more. I didn’t see much from the slider, it doesn’t have any crazy movement and he either couldn’t find the zone or left it out over the plate. He also struggled to find the plate in general (45% zone percentage), and benefited from some generous calls. Conclusion: I think Sheehan needs to improve the slider or develop another pitch to keep hitters off balance. The fastball is absolutely elite though, and an extremely good foundation that guided him through this very promising debut.
I agree that he needs an off speed pitch, although his change up does have a lot off it, it doesn’t matter if no one swings at it. I am not too impressed with his fb either, doesn’t really have any movement. And not sure if the tail movement were by design or due to bad controls. His control was pretty bad, hopefully it was due to nerves. Like you mentioned i think he benefited from calls going his way and batters missed a couple of homeruns. Looking forward to a couple more games once he settles in.
@@trowawayrizzayhis fastball had that consistent side movement all game. it has velo and yes struggled with control but i mean it should have impressed you a bit 😂
I agree with what you’ve said, and I think that developing those offspeeds are crucial for a lot of debuting pitchers in general. I absolutely love Sheehans fastball and I agree that it’ll be a good foundation as long as he developes those offspeed pitches, maybe similar to Bryce Miller in that aspect?
@@samuellee178Yeah, it seems lots of young pitchers now need to develop a strikeout or better off-speed pitch. Bryce Miller is probably the best comparison, but Michael Grove and more so Ryne Nelson are similar too.
Great video brother! Really appreciate the pitch indication to know what to watch before he throws the pitch. Picked Emmet up for my fantasy team before his start based on his minor league numbers and feel confident that was a good thing to do. Great channel you have here I’m glad I found it, keep up the great work man!
Wow, what a debut, 6 no hit innings, all the way from AA Tulsa! But before anyone gets too excited about him, you have to notice that so many of his pitches were high and he got a lot more fly outs than grounders, with two hit to the wall, He better get his pitches down or he'll get clobbered by these MLB hitters. I'm sure Mark Prior is working with him on this very thing. His next scheduled start will be against the Trashtros and I predict he'll go 6 again and allow 2 ER and with 7 Ks, now that he's gotten his feet wet in the bigs. He does have much more poise than Gavin Stone, hence the outcome.
he was definitely overthrowing and his emotions may have influenced this. He is still very young and learning how to pitch. When he is able to dial in his emotions and start to throw the ball with more consistency then this kid will be a very good pitcher. His stuff has alot of life on it and you cant teach that
This kid said, “you can’t hit my heater so I’ll continue to throw it all night!” He pitched 10 straight 4SFB’s hahah. Then one CU and one SL then back to the 4seemer!
Never seen a guy pitch so many no hit innings getting behind 2-0 on nearly every batter. Every ball a fastball high too

He just needs to throw his fastball at 87.

You got the innings and runs right! Only 4Ks though, and both of the runs were on homers. Maybe the home runs will become a bit of a problem for him.

reminds me of jordan zimmerman.

Tons of late movement
