    The only thing you missed was to verify the (black knob) valve on the pump is OPEN and not CLOSED. Otherwise, you nailed it. We just got ours and first batch of roasted chicken is currently drying. Happy FDing!

    You didn’t mention that the manual says to moisten the bread with water. We did this then found out later thar we were supposed to use vinegar water which is NOT in the manual. Very frustrating getting incomplete and conflicting information from multiple sources.

    Very cool! I appreciate your video and the way you present the information as well as your candor.
    I would be interested in seeing more videos on freeze-drying chicken and beef in various forms ie: chunks, strips, ground, steaks?….

      Chicken and beef are definitely on the list! Right now the garden is in its last weeks so we are trying to quickly freeze dry a lot of what’s coming from there, BUT once the garden is done we will start freeze drying meats and we will absolutely start experimenting with that and filming it as we go!

    This was a great, non intimidating video. Just what I needed to get started. I’d love to see videos on rehydrating breads/tortillas/banana bread and maybe muffins etc. I haven’t had any luck finding videos on rehydrating these foods. I will be freeze drying to prep meals for my children with severe allergies so it can be used during emergencies and travel.

    Do NOT freezedry ANYTHING like spam, or sausages (Jimmy Dean patties) too! The GREASE coats EVERYTHING in the freezedryer. 😮 as an owner of one, it is AWESOME! Yep bacon too, unless you cook it to DRY CRUMBLE

    • @WhitepepperFarmshomestead

      I had heard not to do greasy meats but never heard why… so thank you 😂. My wife and I talked about doing a Bloody Mary mix with bacon but we talked about cooking the bacon to a crisp beforehand… hopefully that works 😬

    Yessss I can’t wait to see more videos of you using it!! Can’t wait to see what you all do with it. I want one so we’re goi g to save up for one. I don’t know what you can and can’t freeze dry. Can you freeze dry eggs?

      It’s been running non stop! We have been filming little shorts just until we really get going with it and understand it fully, but full videos will be coming soon!
      Yep, raw or cooked! Just with raw you have to be careful because even after they are freeze dried you still have to treat them as if they are raw. But you can make breakfast skillets, scrambled eggs, raw eggs, so many possibilities!

    Wow! You did it! Congratulations! You are so giddy. Lol. Is it a loud machine? How much energy does it draw from your grid..or what is the estimated cost to run the machine on the electric bill?

    • @WhitepepperFarmshomestead
      @WhitepepperFarmshomestead  9 місяців тому +1

      Yes we did! Seriously so giddy 😂! It’s not as loud as I thought it would be based off what I heard, but it does make a good amount of noise. I wouldn’t want it in a living room with me by any means!
      The power question is one I’ll be digging into soon to get a good estimate, but I don’t have one yet!

    It is Fall in the Northern Hemisphere, so how do the different types of squash (zuchini, yellow, acorn) and pumpkin freeze dry and rehydrate? I am thinking pumpkin pie, pumpkin flavored drinks and more 🙂

    • @WhitepepperFarmshomestead
      @WhitepepperFarmshomestead  9 місяців тому

      My wife and I were literally talking about that today! We wanted to do some squash soups and stuff like that! To be honest.. we have eaten every bit of squash coming off the plants this season so we haven’t been able to freeze dry those, but it’s definitely something we might be hitting the farmers market for!

    Sorry, it is expensive for what you get. I am an HVAC Tech. Basically, what you have is an airtight box with a computer, that controls a vacuum pump. So, in HVAC, we use vacuum pumps almost every day. I promise you, my pump is better than theirs...lol. When you pull something under vacuum, it boils the water content until it escapes. I like the idea of these units, but just have a problem dropping that much $$$ on something that I do most days on the job.

      @@WhitepepperFarmshomestead Awesome! thankyou for the response, Did you have to do multiple runs in the beginning or one was enough?

    • @WhitepepperFarmshomestead
      @WhitepepperFarmshomestead  8 місяців тому +1

      After the bread run it’s always just been one run. We do have it set up to where as soon as the run is done it automatically keeps drying for 24 hours. We do that so if we aren’t home to take everything out it won’t go into a freezing cycle again. So on average we probably keep it drying for an additional 5-10 hours but honestly that’s helped us quite a bit making sure everything is COMPLETELY dry!
