  • A Few Minutes of Fun
    In this series you can join me at the craft table once a week for a few minutes of art and craft creativity - between ten and twenty minutes usually, depending what we're playing with.
    Today I'm playing with creating wildflower and meadowgrass prints using my own Botanical Textures stamp designs for PaperArtsy, a gel plate, and some of my favourite PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic paints. Of course you can use any stamps you have for this technique.
    See me working with real flower stems on the gel plate in this episode - A few minutes of fun with a gel plate and gypsophila: • A few minutes of fun.....
    The stamps are available exclusively from PaperArtsy stockists worldwide - here is the list of stockists by country: blog.paperartsy.co.uk/p/find-...
    The sets used here are PaperArtsy Eclectica Alison Bomber - EAB36 Bells Edition, EAB37 Poppy Edition and EAB38 Umbellifer Edition
    The paints are PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics: Seaglass, Bora Bora, Azure, Midnight, Hyde Park, Spring, and Granny Smith.
    I design for PaperArtsy, so I get the paints at reduced prices, and I obviously don't pay for my own stamp designs. Everything else in this video I bought myself.

      Thank you so much for that lovely comment, Marianne - much appreciated. I do love the Frescos, though it's also worth experimenting with other kinds of acrylic paints on the gel plate too... you get very different effects according to the paint formulation. And also (can't remember if I mentioned it in this video - I know I have somewhere) the PaperArtsy Frescos are very quick drying, so you need to move a bit faster with them on the gel plate than with some other paints. So happy you enjoyed it!

    I’d say it’s bits of fluff and thread from your long sleeves over the plate. Interesting how differently we all paint. I have an old men’s shirt I put over my top and roll up the sleeves. Lovely little prints and colour combos

    • @w0rdsandp1ctures
      @w0rdsandp1ctures  2 місяці тому

      The thread is actually from fabric on another project I'm working on at the moment. They are definitely natural fibres, and the top I'm wearing is not! And to be honest, this isn't how I paint, it's how I film - there are a couple of tops which have become "filming uniform" just so I don't have to think about it.
      I paint in whatever I happen to be wearing when the urge strikes. I might throw an old shirt or an apron over the top, but for the most part I'm perfectly happy for my clothes to get paint or ink all over them (apart from a few things I keep for "best"!).
      Thanks for watching and commenting. Happy Sunday to you.

    Hi Alison! I have fun watching you have fun! I appreciate your almost childlike wonder when the print is pulled and you see the stunning result. I haven’t been very successful using the gel plate in the past (I usually don’t get a clean pull) but I have had fun with it and can appreciate the grunge buildup prints when cleaning up… I must have another play with it soon! Staying open to whatever comes off the plate is key, I think, to avoiding over-judgment! I quite like a mysterious half-pull sometimes, fading out to white space - and I definitely know what you mean about the grungy build-up - it can make a brilliant frame on later prints. Happy Sunday to you.

    That embellifer stays my favourite. As plant and as stamp. Gelliprinting is so addicting, it's difficult to decide when to stop. I wish I was as consequent in my colorchoices. It gives an extra when seeing all in a kind of matching results.

    • @w0rdsandp1ctures
      @w0rdsandp1ctures  2 місяці тому

      Well, and it also helps if I'm going to use the papers in a project together later... they will already have that colour harmony in common. And yes, umbellifers will always be my favourite - I wish they would grow in my garden wildflower meadow plans, but so far no luck!!

      @@w0rdsandp1ctures I once planted cow parsley in my garden. I was afraid it would take over the garden, it didn't, it disappeared totally. I would like to have Queen Anne's lace, but I guess this plant has its preferences when I see it disappear in the wild where it bloomed the year before. We even planted a hogweed when we got a new built house and an empty garden (1982), I loved that quite dangerous one , it's biennial. I won't plant it again.

    The prints turned out great. I’m new to Gelli printing so love seeing it done my brayer always leaves marks that I can never get up. And it doesn’t look good on my prints but I don’t know how to not get those lines. 💕

    • @w0rdsandp1ctures
      @w0rdsandp1ctures  2 місяці тому +1

      I don't mind the odd line or two, to be honest - I like texture more than I like perfection! - but I do know how frustrating that can be. (In fact, I keep one brayer deliberately dirty so that it adds texture when I roll!)
      It's possible that it could be a problem with your brayer (has it got ridges at the edges that are sticking up?), but also try with different amounts of paint. If you've got too much paint on the gel plate, that will be more likely to create lines. And don't be afraid to keep brayering for longer than you think you should need to, and brayer in different directions to smooth out the paint. And it's definitely worth trying different brands of paint too - they all behave differently on the gel plate, so you might find a different paint sorts out all your problems.
      I hope that's of some help for now... keep playing, and I'm sure you'll discover ways to deal with it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
