The reason why perfect strike was shitty because it's literally the same model kit released in 2003 just with added stuff. Bandai released great HG kits around 2010 as well like God Gundam, Gundam X, etc.
I bought one before knowing it was just the old HG strike, so I never ended up building it... except for its perfect striker pack which fits in the revive like a glove, even the shoulder parts.
@@hendriansyahrizkykurniawan5893 A bit wobbly on the shoulders if I recall, but yes it fits. cementing it is even better if you're okay with it. definitely the best option for a budget/1:144 scale of perfect strike.

@@andreassetiawan7773 that's odd. mine fit just fine, no wobble whatsoever... only the backpack connector on mine was a bit too tight so I carefully sanded it a little bit on the edges to adjust the fit. the only tightening I had to do was on the anti-ship sword's handle to fit snugly into the modern hg hands
I think it'll get a bronze to silver tier, if lucky, gold tier due to how old the kit is, unless it has a revive, it may be just the same frame as the freedom but not because of the waist.
this kit holds a special place in my heart. it was actually the first kit i picked up on a whim at a convention when i got back into Gunpla as an adult. I wish I had taken better care of this since the piece that holds the flight unit in place broke off. Ended up getting the RG. Long past due for me to get a MG Red Frame Astray in the collection. Careful with the master grade leg joints cause they break easily after a few years. I had one sitting for awhile took it out and it snapped right off. Just like my blue Frame both leg joints broke. Kinda shifty.

You did the Red frame justice again, even if the HG Gerbera Straight is not the best, but a lil bit of work goes a long way for this kit like you said. Good stuff as always Mecha!
Theres an existing kit on MG if ur interested on a 3rd party kit... Its actually good. Specially those Huge ass beam cannon like sword mount on the back.
The HG Astray mold is undergated to make use for the HG Astray Gold Frame Amatsu Mina but the gold on is still injection gold though Imo its one of the more kits that are slept on. Its a really great alternative for the RG if you dont want a very fragile kit.
That kit was my first gunpla I ever build and I rebuild it recently for a small little a diorama so it would be interesting for him to do a review on it.

I got this kit, painted the gold and red detail with the metallic marker, and it looks great. Ive ordered a chrome marker for the blade, its gonna look awesome
I got this kit as a birthday present from my best friend. One of my first HGs yet the kit is still just as solid as it is when I first built it even after being abused for years now😅 Both the building process and the articulation is just amazing✨
I have the three of HG Astray: Red Frame Flight Unit, Blue Fame 2nd L and Amatsu Mina. All three are great for their age. I actually painted the 2nd L, color accurate, and because the mold is clear enough it was not that hard.

Something that might be worth mentioning from my own experience is that the part of the elbow joint that connects into the forearm snapped on mine, so be careful when you're bending the arms.
10:21 Yeah. Avoid the HGBF Sangoku Astray. All of the red is inaccurate The Gerbera Straight and Tiger Pierce both are the same as this kit. Id totally recommend the MG instead, but you'll still need to paint all of the red.
Mine has loosened up over time, but it was one of the best HGs of its day. Just a bit of tamiya enamels and its gucci! For the gauntlets, i just sprayed the whole thing primer white, and then reverse coloured the red back on it. makes things a lot easier!
This kit is amazing, definitely get it when you can. Just have markers if you don’t wanna deal with the mess that is the gerbera straights color correcting stickers
i remember picking thins one up at random a while back and yeah ... the sword and scabbard where a project ... mostly cause since discovering paint markers I refuse to use stickers for anything but the eyes if I can get away with it. sadly the chrome paint marker wasn't a thing so my sword is in metallic silver
As a bit of a suggestion, they're a bit rare but I recommend trying to find the Astray Red Frame Dragon upgrade packs that came with Hobby Ace. They're accessory kits that provide Caledvlch weapons units and a special beam v-fin upgrade to the Red Frame Flight Unit. They're not particularly color accurate given they're accessory add-ons from Hobby Ace but they're still pretty amazing when combined with the Red Frame.
I remember getting this kit 3 years ago and honestly, i didnt have fun at all building it as it is an ABSOLUTE hand grenade, if i walk past it wrong itll just obliterate it and the joints have only gotten worse with time. I'm honestly super surprised hearing it receive praise, but I could have just been super unlucky and got a really bad press. Which is unfortunate cus i had really wanted it for a month or 2 :(
That's weird, I built multiple types and variant of HG Astray and honestly none of them ended as hand grenades.The kit does require some sanding/filing/grinding of the undergated nubs though for a tighter fit though. The non-typical Astray shoulder/elbow/knee joints does wear down faster than usual HG kits with polycapped joints.
Sheesh, sorry to hear that. My copy is still solid strong so I guess it's just an unlucky bad print your copy was from. I also had eyes on my copy for almost a month, and hell was it rewarding.
The poor guy eventually managed to get it back later by stealing it off someone claiming to be the 'luckiest man alive'. Lowe didn't even know the guy had the Bucue head. His only beef with him is that HE was claiming to be the luckiest man alive, and Lowe believed that title should belong to himself. And naturally, this led to a Giant Robot Fight. I love Astray.
My friend had the RG Astray Red Frame and let's just say, out of box it already has issues like some armor parts falling off Even Type V3's RG Astray had a loose waist section
I’ve had mines for a year and it still holds up well as if i built it the day i finished it. Only downside is that a lot of the decals you put on it (if you want too) start to peel off over time. Definitely recommend buying waterslide decals for it.

I got this kit a few days ago as my first gundam kit and I've gotta agree that the stickers suck (especially the arms). And also I was planning to paint some of the stickers with a marker and now I know how it will look like so thanks :)
The good (?) thing about the Perfect Strike from the old HGSeed line though, is that the perfect striker pack can be used by the revive with no modification. Even the shoulder parts for the launcher and sword strikes fit in the revive. The only modification I did was replacing the red and black parts with those from the revive aile pack and thickening the handle of the anti-ship sword so that it'll fit snugly into the modern HG hands.
I've always wondered this but, can the can we just replace the Perfect Strikes Aile pack with the Revives one? Or can the sword and Launcher not fit on the Revives Aile pack?
@@MasterSwo you can, actually. the backpack of both the perfect striker pack and the revive aile pack are basically the same except for the attachment point for the sword and cannon. it's as if bandai made it with the then-future strike revive in mind. Prime92 also showed it in her review of the strike revive
This is my first gunpla, I had a bunch of poses to put him in but the sword in my kit in bent so it stayed in the scabbard and I have to ditch like 90% of the poses I prepared for him.
Great review, but it seemed skewed when it comes to the sword & accessories. Wouldn't a color inaccuracy be expected for HG and its size? I think you were spoiled by the higher grade Astrays that gave us awesome Gerberas. The RG Red Frame only came out 2 years after this. I understand that your grading system focuses on OoB builds, but it would be good overall if you tweaked it to factor in ease-of-painting & paint experience. Sure, color inaccuracy sucks for us lazy asses, but adding a bit of effort can give an affordable kit so much more value. After all, the appeal of gunpla lies in the building and seeing parts come together & functioning in both ways we do & don't expect. Wouldn't you love a kit more if you gave it some more TLC?
there was an older astray red frame hg with a chrome gerbera so why didn’t this one also get one sure the rest of it wasn’t color accurate but i feel you can’t really bash on him because an older and much worse kit had a chrome gerbera
@@el_gato2099 not really bashing, just a counterpoint. Also, Bandai has plenty of likely reasons why they changed it. Most likely is that chrome gerbera for a reprint would save them some money without hiking up the price, or there's a shortage of plastic they use for chrome. High grades are supposed to be average in size and quality after all. It's probably the same reason why the Age Razor has stickers for its blades. In the end, it's Bandai's decision on how they handle their kits. As much as we critique their ways, they guard it zealously, and we buy their stuff anyways. And back to his review, a single piece gerbera on a HG kit isn't the end of the world, nor should it have brought the grade down from gold.
For those wondering the reason why the Boque head is an accessory is because of the OVA series. (SPOILER WARNING AS I WILL EXPLAIN IT) Lowe buys the head from a mobile suit junk auction and after he buys it Zaft comes after him because it turns out the head has data on the “Sword Calamity Gundam” in which Lowe loses the head in a battle, also losing 1,500,000$
The PG Astray is also very bulky considering it’s built from the frame of the PG Strike. I’d recommend checking it out. It’s a bit disappointing for a PG since it doesn’t have any opening hatches (owing to the reuse of the Strike’s frame), but the Gerbera Straight looks amazing and I had a blast building it.
Quite curious about this kit for a while as a just a couple of months ago our TRU and Toy Kingdom(local TRU competitor) suddenly had a large supply of these for some reason. Was it reissued this year a second time?
I typically don't mind painting my model kits but painting the Astray's Scabbard and sword was a bit too tedious for an HG gunpla kit in my opinion. I also have a problem with the Scabbard falling off since it is connected to the side skirting which is connected by a tiny ball joint and the side skirt tends to fall off normally. Other than that I have very few problems with the red frame itself.
Well I have to say that this does not really aged that well. I bought mine around when it first came out and maybe because I played it a lot, it became quite loose. But for the most part it hold on well enough. Still a good kit
The silver one came out nice. Did you also use the EX white one to detail up this kit or was it the normal Gundam Marker? I hope we get an RG 侍ノ弐 Sengoku Astray Gundam one day. It's my favorite Astray variant.

For example, you hate UC stuffs but if it came from Build series, it's an OK for you. You hate UC Zakus but you're fine with CE Zakus (despite that Okawara designed both most of the UC and CE versions) And at least, you don't care about CE Astray Gundams but you're OK on their Build versions. Can the flight unit of the HG astray fit with the RG or do you need to heavily custom the connector of the HG flight unit? I saw the back of the HG and it looks like it has the same square slot as the RG.
really wish you would've shown the sword with another kit. Some of the reason I've considered the astray inversion was because I thought the sword would be great to pose other kits with.
Just got this kit today and I would that this kit is awesome (yet to build the accessories). Not a fan of Astray but I personally think that the design proportion of this is the best as compared with the MG and RG.
The HG with no flight pack actually comes with a Chrome sword, so they really skimped out to save costs probably. Also the old HG which has the Chrome sword has less articulation, worse colour seperation, and a chonky V fin.
This kit is awesome and i enjoyed to playing with this kit because of the articulation. The problem will comes starting from the hand somehow it loosen up after sometimes even with its own katana
My only thing is that I didn't have nippers when I built it, and so I ended up tearing one of the leg's outer frame in one place, another spot on the torso, and on a completely unrelated part, took the tab off one of the hand's backs. Out of curiosity, have you tried a series called LBX?
Bandai should do some more seed revives those old kits can be real bad and we still need a hg legend gundam to go with our strike freedom infinite justice and destiny

Don’t have it any more. I was unlucky and the runners the wings came on were not injected fully so I couldn’t build the wings. I had a Japanese friend call them about the manufacturing error just for Bandai to say: “we don’t make mistakes” Ah well 🤷♂️

Do a review on the HG strike freedom. I built it 3 years ago it got so loose but recently I tightened the joints and now it works well :)

That will get loose since that kit has a lot of polycaps specially on the back packs. Unlike the destiny and infinite justice

You need to do a back-to-back of the HGCE Strike Freedom AND the HGBF Amazing Strike Freedom.

The Tactical Recon Bucue Head can be mounted onto the HG Bucue kits. just pull out the handle that seats for the hg hands.

I got this kit a few days ago as my first gundam kit and I've gotta agree that the stickers suck (especially the arms). And also I was planning to paint some of the stickers with a marker and now I know how it will look like so thanks :)
The good (?) thing about the Perfect Strike from the old HGSeed line though, is that the perfect striker pack can be used by the revive with no modification. Even the shoulder parts for the launcher and sword strikes fit in the revive. The only modification I did was replacing the red and black parts with those from the revive aile pack and thickening the handle of the anti-ship sword so that it'll fit snugly into the modern HG hands.
I've always wondered this but, can the can we just replace the Perfect Strikes Aile pack with the Revives one?
Or can the sword and Launcher not fit on the Revives Aile pack?
@@MasterSwo you can, actually. the backpack of both the perfect striker pack and the revive aile pack are basically the same except for the attachment point for the sword and cannon. it's as if bandai made it with the then-future strike revive in mind. Prime92 also showed it in her review of the strike revive

This is my first gunpla, I had a bunch of poses to put him in but the sword in my kit in bent so it stayed in the scabbard and I have to ditch like 90% of the poses I prepared for him.
I built it, and i recommend this gunpla for begin in this hobby.
Great review, but it seemed skewed when it comes to the sword & accessories. Wouldn't a color inaccuracy be expected for HG and its size? I think you were spoiled by the higher grade Astrays that gave us awesome Gerberas. The RG Red Frame only came out 2 years after this.
I understand that your grading system focuses on OoB builds, but it would be good overall if you tweaked it to factor in ease-of-painting & paint experience. Sure, color inaccuracy sucks for us lazy asses, but adding a bit of effort can give an affordable kit so much more value. After all, the appeal of gunpla lies in the building and seeing parts come together & functioning in both ways we do & don't expect. Wouldn't you love a kit more if you gave it some more TLC?
there was an older astray red frame hg with a chrome gerbera so why didn’t this one also get one sure the rest of it wasn’t color accurate but i feel you can’t really bash on him because an older and much worse kit had a chrome gerbera
@@el_gato2099 not really bashing, just a counterpoint.
Also, Bandai has plenty of likely reasons why they changed it. Most likely is that chrome gerbera for a reprint would save them some money without hiking up the price, or there's a shortage of plastic they use for chrome. High grades are supposed to be average in size and quality after all. It's probably the same reason why the Age Razor has stickers for its blades.
In the end, it's Bandai's decision on how they handle their kits. As much as we critique their ways, they guard it zealously, and we buy their stuff anyways.
And back to his review, a single piece gerbera on a HG kit isn't the end of the world, nor should it have brought the grade down from gold.
For those wondering the reason why the Boque head is an accessory is because of the OVA series. (SPOILER WARNING AS I WILL EXPLAIN IT)
Lowe buys the head from a mobile suit junk auction and after he buys it Zaft comes after him because it turns out the head has data on the “Sword Calamity Gundam” in which Lowe loses the head in a battle, also losing 1,500,000$
The PG Astray is also very bulky considering it’s built from the frame of the PG Strike. I’d recommend checking it out. It’s a bit disappointing for a PG since it doesn’t have any opening hatches (owing to the reuse of the Strike’s frame), but the Gerbera Straight looks amazing and I had a blast building it.

If you ever get to the HG Bucue, the head in this kit is compatible with those models.
Quite curious about this kit for a while as a just a couple of months ago our TRU and Toy Kingdom(local TRU competitor) suddenly had a large supply of these for some reason. Was it reissued this year a second time?
I typically don't mind painting my model kits but painting the Astray's Scabbard and sword was a bit too tedious for an HG gunpla kit in my opinion. I also have a problem with the Scabbard falling off since it is connected to the side skirting which is connected by a tiny ball joint and the side skirt tends to fall off normally. Other than that I have very few problems with the red frame itself.
Well I have to say that this does not really aged that well. I bought mine around when it first came out and maybe because I played it a lot, it became quite loose. But for the most part it hold on well enough. Still a good kit

Treat your kit like model kits, not toys
The RG wins out in comparison to this because of color accuracy especially on the Gerbera. No sticker hell whatsoever except the sticker decals.
The head is the reason I don't like the rg version

@xxnike629xx I'll not force you to change your choosing habits, but I just find it personally funny that you choose your favorites by its brand or name.
For example, you hate UC stuffs but if it came from Build series, it's an OK for you.
You hate UC Zakus but you're fine with CE Zakus (despite that Okawara designed both most of the UC and CE versions)
And at least, you don't care about CE Astray Gundams but you're OK on their Build versions.
I wonder what you'll gonna do if Ebikawa makes 00-esque designs for UC timeline? Will you gonna explore UC again?

That chrome marker looks great. Its not supposed to be super smooth anyway. The solid blade would have wear and tear when used over time.
Can the flight unit of the HG astray fit with the RG or do you need to heavily custom the connector of the HG flight unit? I saw the back of the HG and it looks like it has the same square slot as the RG.
really wish you would've shown the sword with another kit. Some of the reason I've considered the astray inversion was because I thought the sword would be great to pose other kits with.
Just got this kit today and I would that this kit is awesome (yet to build the accessories). Not a fan of Astray but I personally think that the design proportion of this is the best as compared with the MG and RG.
So I have to choose between either stability (HG) or color accuracy and detail (RG; then again, the RG's fixed pose hands aren't even color accurate).

Try the Gundam marker white EX, it took no more than 2 coats to paint on black when I did the sleeves on the sinanju Stein

The HG with no flight pack actually comes with a Chrome sword, so they really skimped out to save costs probably.
Also the old HG which has the Chrome sword has less articulation, worse colour seperation, and a chonky V fin.
I’m surprised you haven’t build the PG Astray. I built one and it’s very similar to the Strike.
Hmmm...mecha have u tried outfitting the Sword and Launcher Packs of the HG Perfect Strike to the Revive Version? To see if they are compatible?

This kit is awesome and i enjoyed to playing with this kit because of the articulation. The problem will comes starting from the hand somehow it loosen up after sometimes even with its own katana
That red frame would look awesome with a cherry blossom forest diorama. Just sayin.

My only thing is that I didn't have nippers when I built it, and so I ended up tearing one of the leg's outer frame in one place, another spot on the torso, and on a completely unrelated part, took the tab off one of the hand's backs.
Out of curiosity, have you tried a series called LBX?
Bandai should do some more seed revives those old kits can be real bad and we still need a hg legend gundam to go with our strike freedom infinite justice and destiny

Don’t have it any more. I was unlucky and the runners the wings came on were not injected fully so I couldn’t build the wings.
