There’s a solution I haven’t seen put forward as to why Force Dash is only seen in this one moment in Phantom Menace: that it was a rare force ability that only Qui Gonn knew how to employ… and when we see it, he is simultaneously pushing Obi Wan along with him. Perhaps only Grand Master-level Jedi could use this successfully… which is why Obi Wan wasn’t able to use it during his duel with Darth Maul. And only prodigies like Luke were able to”impress” Vader by doing it on Bespin without training.
Star Wars Meg, if we are talking time line you are correct, but if we are talking movie release it would be Empire when Luke jumped out of the carbon freezing chamber. He was nearly a blur when he shot up and out of the pit. Vader said all too easy until he looked up to see Luke climbing on the hoses above. If I'm wrong let me know.
@rastanz ah! Thank you for the correction! I was 10 when the original came out, and was in my teens when Empire came out. I have watched it eleventy-bazillion times since then. It's amazing how your brain will remember things a certain way, despite you hearing it again.
I don't remember which series it was in, but we did see a lot of the Force Dash being used by Luke when he was training with Leia, I believe on Endor? They were Force Running all over the planet, through the trees, where Leia was besting him a lot. I want to say this was in The Mando series, when Luke was reminiscing with Ahsoka during the time Luke was training Grogu, but I honestly could be mistaken. It's been awhile. The ability was very taxing on the mind, because of how much Focus one had to use, when using the ability. This was seen in the Star Wars Galaxies game, as well and SWTOR (or so I was told on TOR, as I never played it ... RIP SWG! 12-15-11). It seemed to follow the canon from George Lucas, and also makes sense why it would sparingly used, thus rarely seen. As for Dark Transfer - This was the ability that Palpatine/Sidious was selling to Anakin in Ep. III, after Anakin told him of his visions of Padme dying. Sidious told him there was a way to save her, and I say Sidious because when he is telling Anakin this, you can hear the Darth coming out of him. This is the same ability that Sidious used to drain his "masters" and overcome them. If I'm not mistaken, it is unknown how long Sidious had lived prior to being overcome himself, by Anakin. Also, Sidious had foreseen his demise to Anakin, which is why he was trying to succumb him all during the original 2 trilogies. Additionally on Dark Transfer, this is what Sidious was hoping to use on Rey, so that he could revive his youth. He knew that having a young version of his blood, his own granddaughter, harnessed the ability to restore himself to his former glory. This is why his son tried to hide her from him in the first place. He was also aware that the cloning process was not perfected and would result in severe imperfections, which he had hoped to resolve some of it using his force ability, but he knew he would not be able to fix everything, particularly with his aging body, which is why he wanted to use the Dark Transfer ability on Rey. Sidious said how Snoke was a weak master and was not worthy of his position as Emporer, but I believe it was a means to an end for Sidious, as his great ability of Force Vision granted him the insight to see how Snoke could turn Jacen (I refuse to call him Ben .. canon is Ben Skywalker, Jacen Solo. Sorry, I'm one of those who prefers canon. I like the story Disney tried to sell but, man did they F it up, really bad. Not to mention how much they left out, but I digress ...) so that Jacen could turn Rey and ultimately, Sidious could use Rey and Jacen both to restore his body. Also, I did find it odd that Jacen knew how to use the Force Transfer power to restore Rey to life, as Anakin did to restore Ahsoka when they were on the Force Planet or Mortis. However, Anakin learned it from Father and Sister (also, could this have been where Anakin/Darth Vader got the naming structure for agents of the Inquisitorius?? 🤔), so that leads me to wonder where Jacen learned it from, because he would not have learned it from Luke, as he would have left Luke's temple well before gaining that knowledge (too young). Anyways, this was a fun stroll down Star Wars knowledge for me! These kinds of things are rarely talked about by the SW community, much less the people who make the series', movies, etc. It's these kinds of details that would make for better shows and movies imo, if those people would take them time to read and learn about them. Find out about all of the species across the galaxy, the nature and abilities of the force; how did the dark side come about (nice try Acolyte ...)? Did it start with a light side user? Where did the force originate? What drove the civilizations over the years? How did their technologies come about? Etcetera, so forth and so on, but these are the things driving this universe so, the more knowledge of these things would help create better shows/movies. Long story short (... eh, you get it ...), more of this kind of stuff, please!!!
The question you posed about other abilities. And I've heard the first 3 and you haven't mentioned it yet. Is Bastilla's Battle Meditation! that power is so OD it'd be too much for a show or movie it's breaking as you referenced with force dash at the beginning
Force Judgment is my favorite rare force ability, discovered by Jedi Master Plo-Koon, the light side variant of Force Lightning. You had to be calm and in control of your emotions with a strong desire for justice to use it correctly. It doesn't kill targets but rather knocks them out.
Force speed did not appear to be the intention when they originally released Episode 1. invisibility, maybe... 0:10 In the original version I got on VHS as a little kid, the jedi just disappeared in a jump cut the frame before the pyrotechnics on the wall. But I remember thinking it was silly how their blades continued to be animated moving off screen at normal running pace. EDIT: Actually I'm rewatching it now in a UA-cam video titled "The ULTIMATE Phantom Menace Comparison (VHS, DVD, BluRay, 35mm)" and you can still see a faint dissolved image of them jogging off that is jerkily scooted along in post. Must have been a weird fix-it-in-post moment on set. They probably counted on most audiences not noticing at full speed in theaters, and fans going frame by frame at home was still new in 1999. Then they updated the effect to be a blur of their full bodies for the later 2011 Blue Ray release.
I liked her and both of the Asian guys, probably because they all had good fight scenes. I'd say yes, because after Jackie's fight scene I liked her too, though she was dead at that point. 😆😆 If they reuse anything from The Acolyte at all, I hope it would be the fighting. They can dump everything else.
While most were too busy hating witches singing to notice. I saw, more or less, a jawas incarnated. Selling used light sabers online. During the acolyte. Watched him dissect Qimir's takedown of most of the Jedi, and his own superior moves under similar circumstances. If it was him. After learning the secrets of the helmet and Qimir. I went back to the used saber salesman and asked if he could do all he claimed... while wearing a sensory deprivation helm. Just heard crickets and coyotes in lieu of any response.
it's more of an artistic expression than a Force power. it only exists on screen that one time because if you start with Episode 1, this is your first encounter with characters called Jedi and it's just there to show the audience that they are badass and can do things normal people can't do. it sets ups the storytelling for the rest of the saga, there's evil that even they can't run away from. George Lucas being artsy I think.
Force speed predated its first live action appearance in The Phantom Menace. I recall playing the Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II video game produced by LucasArts under the supervision of George Lucas and the main character, Kyle Katarn, has this ability. As soon as I saw it in Episode I back in 1999, I knew exactly what it was because I had seen it before. Whether or not Disney Star Wars recognizes or uses it does not matter, as far as I'm concerned this ability was established as canon long before they owned the franchise.
Although from a practical sense, it was kind of a balance nightmare in multiplayer. So likely Meg's conjecture about what people want to see in the movies seems believable.
I've always wondered why we haven't seen the force dash again. For example, Ezra could have used it to jump onto the ship when escaping Peridia, which would make so much more sense than Sabine pushing him. But obviously it should have never been used in the first place, as it is an OP power that would change everything. And yes, a good explanation would be that just not everyone can do it, sort of like Ahsoka's ability to sense past actions.
Although I love the Jedi mind trick, my favorite is force dyad! The original trilogy are my favorites but the force dyad between Kylo Ren and Rey made the sequels for me. That and the cool move of Leia using the force to return to the ship!
In the TPM duel - I took it that Obi-Wan didn't use force dash to engage with Darth Maul because he had just done a massive force jump to reach the walkway. I know this is not specifically explained in the movie, but I didn't think it needed any explanation.
If there was a New Jedi Order in the future, then we could have seen all kinds of force abilities, even new ones, my favorite force abilities is force lifting, force mind trick, force push, and especially force connecting.
I wish they showed the weakness in attack of the clones by showing some jedi speed UP to block overwhenming only to slow down and get shot over time…..
I think that - in the ObiWan show - they were provided an opportunity for Luke to accidentally use Force Speed when he ran from his home away from Reva (Tuskens in his mind). The fear and adrenaline would have been the perfect vessel for Force Speed to manifest. He would be so scared that he would not even realize how fast he was actually running.... Just my thought. They should have done it.
In The Phantom Menace, I believe that it was only Qui-Gon that could use Dash, and carried/pushed Obi-Wan with him out of the way. As far as abilities I didn't know existed on the light side, that I enjoyed seeing...Luke Force-crushing that Dark Trooper was pretty awesome.
Wow Meg awesome video on rare forde abilities I really enjoyed this especially force dash as I loved how the Jedi lady in Acolyte moved in slow motion to get out of the way from the twin, very interesting video thank you SWM
Anakin used the ability to save Obi-Wan from Count Dooku in AOTC. Remember when Anakin was recovering from Dooku's Force lightning attack? And then Dooku disarmed Obi-Wan and was about to strike him down. Anakin uses the Force dash/speed ability to save Obi-Wan.

my issue is that george had a habit of just pulling these out of his ass then going oh vrap cant use that again or it wrecks the plot how work out that they can't use it much - if you want a really really good use of this trope see the dresden files books - the author had all kinds of reasons why harry while a very powerful wizard was never able to use his powers I do think that seeing the fight in acolyte - almost the only well scripted and directed scene in the show - now it would have been cool to see obi wan use that a bit in the fight against grevious we would have had a better sense of the fact that obi wan was never really in dnger and was toying with him a little would have been cool - oh well...
My favorite force use would be "great cooking " force. The ability to cook such great food it turns any sith to the light side 😂. Ok I'm probably upsetting a few folks but what the hell? Why not. That said i think ill make some fresh Ravioli with a 3 cheese and herbs filling with just a little smoked salmon inside the pasta with a basil pesto sauce and a glass or two of a nice white German wine. Hmmm, everyone have a great day 🌤

I did it once. I needed crap and couldn't get the key in the door quick enough. But the moment the door opened, my hidden jedi power took over.

It originated in many SW games prior to TPM, KOTOR was the first game I believe to have this as a skill.
I believe Luke used this move to escape the carbon freezing pit. That was an unnaturally fast jump directly up out of immediate danger.
I think the books, or some lore article said that it was a trump card for Luke and that Vader didn't know that he could do that.
Force Judgment is my favorite rare force ability, discovered by Jedi Master Plo-Koon, the light side variant of Force Lightning. You had to be calm and in control of your emotions with a strong desire for justice to use it correctly. It doesn't kill targets but rather knocks them out.

Doku used it against Anakin in episode 2 when he cut his arm and Palpatine when Windu tried to arrest him!
So, it was used many times!

These are all D&D Wizard spells.
So, was Leia subconsciously using Force Stealth, as Vader didn't pick up on her Force Sensitivity?
