This is my favorite one-piece arc, so probably 10/10, even though i feel like some parts in the act 3 dragged and some decisions didn't sit right with me, but there's so much, too much to love in the arc.
@ShonenOuji 7.5 /10 , the biggest issue is pacing and execution between the samurai plotline and the pirate(every pirate crew and characters) plotlines , the last hiyori dialogue is kinda right for the political atmosphere at that moment (and as oda said it wasn't directed towards otama , so it'll change later) and a lot of characters as the story gets messed up and bloated with so many different plot points (yamato being the disappointment) due to their presence
The main issue I had with Wano was how all the talk about the beast pirates and Kaido in the manga being this almost indestructible crew fell incredibly short. At no moment did I feel that weight in the battles, I really thought the straw hats were going to be pushed to their limits which would make their victory that much cathartic. They had more difficult fights in prior arcs
Bro what? Luffy literally died to kaido before he had to use gear 5 (which kaido knocked him out of it), Sanji had to awaken his germa genetics to beat queen and still was a high tension fight, zoro vs king pished him to using his haki in better way's, so on so forth, the only one's that didn't get this treatment were the weakling trio and robin ig
Bruh, I read it weekly, and it was hype. Nobody knew what was going to happen. When we saw Zoro on the rooftop everyone to then proceed to show all his feats against Kaido and Big Mom to then fight and beat King(which we expected). The Sanji not using his raid suit and instead unlocking his Germa genes. And Luffy having a totally different fruit than what we imagined, losing 3 times, unlocking Acoc mid battle + awakening. How he lost in the final match
I kinda agree, and disagree. Disagree because Luffy, Zoro and Sanji were challenged in their battles with Kaido, King, and Queen, but also agree, because there’s never a moment where it feels like the raid will fail. Most other arcs have parts where the Straw Hats are struggling, and it feels like they’re going to lose the battle, but during the raid, almost every big development shifts the battle further and further into the Alliance’s favor. The only time it feels like the Alliance is in trouble is when Luffy gets “killed” by Kaido, but that only lasts for two chapters before getting undone by Gear 5. This means that the Raid lacks the tension usually felt in One Piece’s Arcs, and explains why Kaido’s crew didn’t feel. very tough in the grand scheme of things.
@@ShonenOujiI think WCI is better than Dressrosa but not as good as Wano, even if Wano has lower lows - I feel like it’s highs way eclipse it. Dressrosa I feel like is the worst of the mega arcs in One Piece. Especially in the anime where it was at its worst.

Pretty good summary of the fumbles of the arc (if only some of them cause yeah, i get not wanting to go into excruciating detail over them and others not mentioned). Pretty much my only disagreement is our thoughts on Yamato, I genuinely think she's probably the worst character Oda has ever put to paper for many reasons. It's a shame cause despite her very haphazard, random out of nowhere introduction, I did really like her at first. But as the arc went on, and I got really tired of her, the Oden shtick wasnt really funny or endearing and her not really doing anything that mattered much. One could say she serviced Momo's growth a lot during the raid by relaying stuff in Oden's journal to him, but my issue with that is we already had the perfect character to do so in Hiyori. Which makes me dislike Yamato even more because Hiyori desperately needed to be more involved with the raid, since she ended up going there anyway. I think it just makes more sense whenever i do think about it, Oden's own daughter having his journal as a keepsake all these years reuniting with her brother and being the one to spend all that time with him during the raid instead of Yamato being this uber important and strong character shoved into our faces randomly at the last minute where most of her screentime is just running laps around Onigashima occasionally slapping around one or two random Numbers (id say those are the worst characters Oda put to paper if they even counted as characters). The only way I can make sense of things going the way they did is Oda wanted to give Kaido a child to befriend Oden's kid as a sort of... Idk of irony is the right word. But it's like why give Momo a sister then, a character that would be more deserving of that kind of screentime in Momo's story and actively aiding in his growth. I also pretty quickly caught on she wasn't ever going to be a strawhat tbh. I was down for the idea at first, but he made her... Too thirsty for it. Plus all the crap with Ace and knowing about Luffy's secret dream and the whole basically being a walking spoiler alert for the rest of the journey. It's not like with Carrot where she was given more organic moments, dynamics and traits that other strawhats shared before they joined that would make me understand folks wanting her to join for as long as they did (i was one of them and was diappointed too). Plus like, actually having the time to warm up to the idea in the first place lol. Like the very start of the raid she was on the Sunny with them and fighting alongside them and everything. Idk what compelled Oda to take her story in the direction its currently in, thats another major fumble imo but that's a whole other rant lol. Anyway yeah, the Yamato thing wasnt even that huge of an issue with vid, i just really go off when talking about her cause she's such a huge negative for the arc for me. Genuinely would've been made BETTER without her in my eyes but ah well. We're here now. I have more to say about her for sure but this was too long paragraphs ago lol. Again great video man
My biggest issue with kaido that I didn’t know what to make of him, like what is his connection with joyboy and why is he so sad? I know people are gonna say he thought he himself was joyboy and somewhere along the line he realized he wasn’t and that’s why he’s so sad, but there’s a scene where he’s talking with king and he laughs and says “you think I could be joyboy” then continues to say “joyboy is that man who’ll beat him” and when he says that he doesn’t look like his usual depressed self, that makes it seem, to me at least, that he didn’t actually think he was joyboy , so what was his deal with him and why was he sad?
Apart from the problems that Wano has, I also have my own problems in the form of isolation from the rest of the world. Yes, I know each island isolates us a bit and Wano was designed in the style of old Japan, but because of how long the arc was, I felt like I was reading a manga about samurai and not pirates XD That's why I like Egg Head much more than Wano because despite the name, this arc isn't just about Egg Head.We get a lot of information about what's going on in the world that we would usually get between arcs, but here Oda has changed his style and we jump to other places in the world every now and then. One Piece is a very lively world anyway, but thanks to this treatment I felt even more how alive the world is compared to Wano where I missed the rest of the world.I would like this situation to continue and on Elbaf we will also receive information about what is happening in the rest of the world
I still think Wano is a good arc, but it could've been the best. For me, the main issue is how bloated it is. There was so much old stuff that Oda had to resolve and so much new stuff he had to build up and then also resolve. It was the climatic end to the Yonko Saga. However, Wano was still able to tell a nice self contained story about saving a nation in a 20 year turmoil, with an emphasis on starvation. I want to give an example of the way the arc still stuck to the story it established when Luffy initially landed on Wano and met Tama. The final punch. I get why people are super unsatisfied with it (Oda literally said he wouldn't end it that way). I also agree that one big punch is a boring way to finish the fight. But the dialogue between Kaido and Luffy during that scene was really great. Contrary to popular belief, Kaido does not want to and never really has wanted to become Joyboy. He just wanted to plunge the world into the biggest war ever and whoever comes out on top should have all the power; a clear opposition to the current world order where the Celestial Dragons believe they are descendants from gods, are at the top, but are super weak. So Kaido does not want to be Joyboy, but he has heard of Joyboy and that he is destined to come back and change the world. Hearing this, Kaido basically decided for himself that if this Joyboy really was to return, then that would be the only person capable of beating him. In order to change the world, you have to be stronger than Kaido after all, according to his belief in the strongest having all the power. So back to the punch, Kaido asks Luffy: "And what kind of world can you create Straw Hat?" Kaido knew this was the closest he has been to defeat, a defeat that he predicted could only be done by Joyboy. So to make sure his opponent really is Joyboy, he asks Luffy that question because that is what he heard Joyboy was supposed to do: change the world. Then, I love Luffy's response: "I'll make a world where my friends can eat as much food as they want." At this point, we know Luffy is Joyboy but he doesn't give a response that teases the future of the series like "I'm gonna make a world where the World Government is taken down." Instead, Luffy gives a response that still fits the confines of the arc: helping a nation in starvation. So that's what I love about that scene. Not only does it prove Kaido's prediction correct (a pretty cool way to go out), wrapping up the Yonko Saga; but it also nicely wraps up the self-contained story established in Wano which started with Luffy meeting Tama.
Agree with a lot of the points of contention you have with Wano except for strawhat development or good strawhat moments. I'd say the strawhats weren't driven by a specific theme in past arcs like for example in ennies lobby when the crew was falling apart and the whole point was strengthening the bond of the crew and reestablishing their loyalty to Luffy and Luffy's willingness to fight for them. However I'd say Wano had a lot of individual great strawhat moments and I didn't think they were fodder at all. Actually I feel like the crew became more fodder in egghead than Wano (which I don't think was a bad thing like some people do as long as Elbaph has good character development for the crew specifically Usopp). Sanji grappling with his humanity when fighting Queen, Zoro receiving enma, Luffy's gear 5th, people didn't like the ice Oni filler but I thought It was great because I got to see chopper doing doctor stuff which is a point of contension where I personally need more of plus he sumo wrestled Queen which I thought was pretty cool. Robin's fight with black Maria was great, Nami standing up to Ulti and proclaiming that Luffy will become the king of the pirates even when backed into a corner, Franky's fight with Sasaki and also seeing all the cool new features on the battle franky was nice! Plus seeing him save nami slamming his motorcycle into Big Mom's face was cool. The only two who felt like fodder to me was Usopp and Brooke tbh which they always kinda seem like fodder post timeskip tbh except for some good moments with Usopp in Dressrosa and Brooke in Whole Cake. This is coming from someone who loves Pinocchio jesus and skull jokes btw don't get the wrong idea
Good video, but I don't agree that the G5 execution was flawless and I think a good percentage of the fanbase agrees with me. It had little to no buildup. In a story where everything makes sense like one piece it's addition in the lore (not themes) felt jarring
I do think for anyone having issues with arcs like Wano, Dressrosa, or Egghead for problems like "The pacing is slow" I would highly encourage to take some time off, come back and either re-read the arc or rewatch it through something like One Pace which removes Toei's unnecessary drag. I actually tried reading Wano week by week during the start of my high school, and stopped reading by the time Luffy was one shot by Kaido, as I felt that One Piece was "falling off" and "it was getting too slow". I repicked it up by my first year of college, ended up binging the whole thing in the span of maybe a day and found it well paced and really exciting. Without the wait each week the arcs ended up feeling way better paced and more fleshed out, it also helped that when chapters make call backs to previous points in the arc 30 or so chapters ago, the knowledge is still fresh in my head since I read that chapter about an hour ago. I will say Toei's abysmal pacing most likely has a lot more to do with Wano arc's disappointment to people than a lot of people realize. Arcs like Punk Hazard, and Dress Rosa were clowned upon about being extremely poorly paced, especially in the anime; however, when read in the manga it feels a lot better and a lot quicker. Wano is not safe from Toei's touch either, I've seen scene comparisons with Toei's rendition of Wano to One pace cutting out the extra content and they will extend the most unnecessary scenes. The weekly wait is a such a hype killer but such waits are necessary to give mangakas time to rest, I've seen Oda's schedule and I sometimes wonder how this man still pumps out such high quality chapters. I'd imagine this was the same for chapters like water 7/Enies lobby, where Enies lobby alone took about a year to get out, with it being about 55 chapters or so long, the entire arc taking place in the span of a day in One Piece time.
I still find wano a better arc than the 4th great ninja war, as most of the straw hats at least got a fight compared to the k11 and no last minute twist villian
Personally Wano is like a 6/10. Its highs are really high but its low are super low. To me what will always be the two cardinal sins are 1st: taking time for the most random uninteresting bullshit ever while foregoing extremely relevant stuff, ie anything Yamato or Raizo battling Baldy over Zoro’s connection to Wano or Kaido’s backstory. 2nd It’s Kaido getting defeated (seemingly willingly?) by something Oda specifically stated he WILL NOT do, a punch. Makes you think, if Oda promises us that the One Piece will be a tangible great reward or that the final arc will make look Marineford look insignificant, will he even be able to pull it off? What also sucks is that way too little characters die which I expect at this point but not even in Wano?! Furthermore, unlike you I genuinely believe Kaido’s crews maybe except King and Queen are dogshit trash. Like every singular fight is boring, uninspiring and pathetic. The only redeeming factors are Jinbe taking a stand against racism and Robin actually being allowed to do something for once. Yknow now that I watched this vid and wrote my comment I am actually starting to kinda hate Wano lmao
The story now is better than Wano but IDK why from the end of wano OP has created so many plot holes, inconsistencies... like even if we ignore a$$ pull's like Gear 5 which are norm in OP, how the hell that on one chapter npc fodders were dying just by seeing Elder and after few chapter it's like that didn't happen, Saturn didn't take Luffy seriously and just killed him when he was KO even thou they make Nika such a big deal rather than that he was after a kid(bonney) like a pedo.
Funny enough, 5th gear can be serious too so I dont really get it, it's just primarily silly *Edit-- I also think that Elbaph has expectation, especially for Usopp.
@@smo4a9074 at least not in the anime, they totally ruined it with those dumb orochi scenes, he should’ve been dead. I thought the gear 5 episodes were going to be one of the most rewatchable string of episodes but I literally avoid even rewatching it due to all the other annoying irrelevant scenes you have to watch in order to see gear 5. I can’t stand his voice.
Wano is mid at best in terms of story and emotional investment I had. No tensions or risk of genuinely feeling hopeless situations. It was the most cartoonish plot and story telling . I was more emotionally invested in Drum island arc than Wano ! Let alone Arlong park , Alssbasta or anything better.
Best thing for me that came out of wano was the fight scenes in the anime. The plot and story of wano is ass and only more ass when u realized how long it was built up and waited for.
Wano is a great arc. The anime just kinda sucks. I really dont think wano is decisive its just not the number 1 arc for most fans but usually ranks in the top 5 arcs for most.
Wano is mid (to me). It had some good moments, but as whole it was lesser than other great one piece arcs in terms of ploting, themes , tension and so on . For an arc that was built up to for so long, this is extremely disappointing and it deeply hurts post time skip one piece since so much of it was centered around dealing with the yonko (kaido and big mom) I also don't like the joy boy stuff(chosen one) I just before clicking on this video watched a critical analysis video by a small youtuber that pretty accurately described my problems with wano, i would strongly recommend it: ua-cam.com/video/evXiGamGDpA/v-deo.htmlsi=LV-VaWnhBDwBt9tx
Gear 5 glazers is my problem and the One piece creators calling it a masterpiece..but ichigo being a quicny is an asspull and kubo just winged.. so fuck em tekking101 im looking at you. I believe gear 5 is perfect for luffy. And idc for asspulls. But the grifter suck
The Onigashima raid made me appreciate even more the castle assault from HxH. Ok, the second one was a stealth mission and with less character but it was clear. In Onigashima what was a character doing and where it pretty much doesn't matter. Like said in the video, the off-screen fights, well overall the fights that's a style post time-skip that is frequent. Overall to me Wano is a 7.5 + Oden was great - It had too many plot point with some one of them not delivering - the raid was too convoluted and almost felt written back -> meaning not evolving naturally but creating the causes from the result Oda wanted to obtain, the fire/explosion, virus and Kaido having to lose
some people are js to blinded by animation some dudes in my class were saying demon slayer is better than jojoba and they haven't even watched jojoba js lying they have and were saying jjk and demon slayer is better than hxh and black clover
luffy became a yonko in wano and while not prevalent now the new reign of momo and when he decides to open the borders is gonna have a huge impact on the final war hell wtf am i even saying gear 5 exists, the road poneglyph and rogers past too

@@Not_obligated2careHe didn't had to always fight 1 v 1 ya know. He could've just gone to marineford if he cared so much about challenges.
Apart from the problems that Wano has, I also have my own problems in the form of isolation from the rest of the world. Yes, I know each island isolates us a bit and Wano was designed in the style of old Japan, but because of how long the arc was, I felt like I was reading a manga about samurai and not pirates XD
That's why I like Egg Head much more than Wano because despite the name, this arc isn't just about Egg Head.We get a lot of information about what's going on in the world that we would usually get between arcs, but here Oda has changed his style and we jump to other places in the world every now and then.
@15:00 well the crew was split in half in dressrosa and wci so i mean its easier to focus on the strawhats present
My thoughts exactly. This was the first arc since post timskkip that all the strawhats were fighting together . Obviously itll be this way
Wano Arc was fun especially Fifth Gear vs Kaido. Now that's done let's turn my attention to Elbaph Arc 🏴☠️
Say what you will, but it’s arguably One Piece’s best fight.
@@ShonenOuji I've enjoyed it and can't wait for the next fight in Elbaph Arc.
I binged the arc and skipped the pacing stuff and enjoyed it. It's probably in my top 5.
Oden flashback was peak one piece
This is the best take I've seen so far on Wano.
The story now is better than Wano but IDK why from the end of wano OP has created so many plot holes, inconsistencies...
like even if we ignore a$$ pull's like Gear 5 which are norm in OP,
how the hell that on one chapter npc fodders were dying just by seeing Elder and after few chapter it's like that didn't happen,
Saturn didn't take Luffy seriously and just killed him when he was KO even thou they make Nika such a big deal rather than that he was after a kid(bonney) like a pedo.
That’s why Saturn is dead now
Its likley you cant just head pop anybody bro that would be too op, luffy has conquerers haki Saturn couldn’t do that if he wanted to
@@Nothisndhdudjdjdj only the low rank fodder marines can’t look rear admiral and up can
That last word is so overused in 2024 like sheesh is that all yall think about.

Don’t forget toei made the king and queen fight S tier so it’s super memorable
I love the odin flashback arc
Bruh how are you gonna say kaidos crew has forgettable, KING VS FREAKING ZORO, luffy vs ulti. Dawg and kaidos fights are the most rememberable
Funny enough, 5th gear can be serious too so I dont really get it, it's just primarily silly
*Edit-- I also think that Elbaph has expectation, especially for Usopp.
Elbaph is 6 chapters deep at this point. Where are the similarities?
This guy does not believe in bad arcs, lol.
And, NO, everyone does NOT agree the execution of G5 was perfect... What?
G5 was perfect though.
@@Not_obligated2care ok....go cry about it
Holy shit you didn't cook but have all of the mid invalid takes fron over the year's.....
The wano portion was mid, Oden flashback was too long, onigashima was peak. From the manga perspective.
Your inability to look even slightly beyond surface level is truly amazing
That’s a massive amount of cope
Best thing for me that came out of wano was the fight scenes in the anime. The plot and story of wano is ass and only more ass when u realized how long it was built up and waited for.
short answer. kaido happened

For an arc that was built up to for so long, this is extremely disappointing and it deeply hurts post time skip one piece since so much of it was centered around dealing with the yonko (kaido and big mom)
I also don't like the joy boy stuff(chosen one)
I just before clicking on this video watched a critical analysis video by a small youtuber that pretty accurately described my problems with wano, i would strongly recommend it:
ua-cam.com/video/evXiGamGDpA/v-deo.htmlsi=LV-VaWnhBDwBt9tx
Overall to me Wano is a 7.5
+ Oden was great
- It had too many plot point with some one of them not delivering
- the raid was too convoluted and almost felt written back -> meaning not evolving naturally but creating the causes from the result Oda wanted to obtain, the fire/explosion, virus and Kaido having to lose
Nah gear 5 introduction was heavily flawed 😭
Yeah idk what this dude talking about. Gear 5 is a dope power but I'm not gonna act like oda didn't pull that straight out of his asS
some people are js to blinded by animation some dudes in my class were saying demon slayer is better than jojoba and they haven't even watched jojoba js lying they have and were saying jjk and demon slayer is better than hxh and black clover
Wano did not do anything to progress the story. It was one of those Op arcs that was just there to defeat a strong villain that’s it
luffy became a yonko in wano and while not prevalent now the new reign of momo and when he decides to open the borders is gonna have a huge impact on the final war
hell wtf am i even saying gear 5 exists, the road poneglyph and rogers past too
@@NasirGiwa ahh yes this farrr away final war… I’m sure ill be about 50 🙄
Wano is the best arc to date
