I had seen the eclipse back in 2017 from Farragut, TN but wanted to see this one since it was closer to my house. Was going to watch with some friends near Erie, PA but wasn't happy with the weather forecast (was staying in Meadville, PA) so my wife and I drove to the Walmart west of Geneva, OH to watch. Weather was good with just some high clouds that didn't interfere. It was an awesome experience that was longer than the 2017 eclipse. Just took some crappy pictures but saw what I think was Jupiter and Venus and at the 6:30 position there was some reddish item on the sun I saw during totality -- not sure what. I didn't see the wall of darkness coming but I could see the light coming as totality was ending. It is amazing how little of the sun's disk we need to see in order for it to be "light" outside!

This a great writeup of your experience. I was in Greenville Ohio. You are correct that Jupiter and Venus were visible. What you saw shooting out from the Sun/Moon was a Solar prominence. It appeared orange/red/pink to my eye and was at the 6 to 7 oclock position. I saw the light wall heading our was too in the final seconds of totality and found that to be one of the greatest parts of the experience.

it was incredible, was in perryville and had my dobsonian with a solar filter, took it off during totality and it was unreal. seeing the silver corona and the pink prominences, easily the most visually impressive astronomical event i've ever seen in my life.

Yes. I viewed the prominences through binoculars and was surprised at how bright and colorful they were! Could even make out one between 6 and 7 o'clock with the naked eye. I'm happy you were able to experience it!

It was amazingly awesome! I had never ever seen a total eclipse until today. I'll be 186 years old when the next one happens here in my state. I'll need your help walking to the door to go out. Lol

Michael, been coming to your page to know what to look for in the night sky. Thank you for that.
I got to see the total eclipse in 2017 but my wife was unable to come with me and was just outside of totality. She is a convert - 99% is only 1% of the effect of totality. Just no comparison. Last time I was by myself. This time I made sure to take my wife and a her friend and found a winery with about 200 guests and got to feel that moment with a group. That is also recommended to here the whole crowd experience totality.
I got got good totality pictures but I did not get a good overall picture like you got. Thank you for sharing. I would be willing share my totality picture but not sure how here.

Thanks so much for letting me know how your experience was. Where did you see totality? Feel free to email the picture to my business email account which can be found in the about page on youtube or share it with me on instagram.

It was cloudy here in central Texas, but the clouds parted right before totality. It was really awesome. I got a few decent photos with my iPhone.

Thank you for showing the 360° sunset. Did you use any other photographic equipment to capture this special event?

    • @LateNightAstronomy
      @LateNightAstronomy  2 місяці тому +1

No, I decided just to enjoy the experience and take a brief video of it.

The 360 degree sunset is probably my favorite feature of it.

It was great from Mt Nebo, Arkansas too. The Umbra was not defined enough to see coming from the distance, though.

I'm so glad you were able to see it. I was able to see a light wall heading our way as it ended but did not notice it approaching.

I saw the total solar eclipse in 2017 when I traveled to cloudless skies in Orin, Wyoming. Unfortunately, the weather projected the entire path to be cloudy so I just settled for a partial eclipse this time and saw the livestream on ABC.

I saw the eclipse at a small town west of Cleveland. The weather was better than predicted and only thin clouds were present. The view was awesome!! Just short of 4 minutes of totality.

@@isaacclark9825 I wish I would have gone to Dallas, but it's fine. I still have the total solar eclipse from 2017 burned into my mind. That was an unforgettable, surreal and "spiritual" experience.

@@StaticBlaster The 2017 eclipse was my first total eclipse. It was awesome as well. Nothing is quite like that first one. I wanted to go to Texas, but I was blessed to get good weather in Ohio

@@isaacclark9825The 2017 eclipse was also my first encounter with a total eclipse. I regret not going, but I couldn't shake the fear of traveling all that way only to be met with clouds. At least I experienced a 77% partial eclipse and watched the livestreams.
