    Hi nurse Tonicia. First of all thank you so much for making this video. It was very informative and you are helping a lot of people. I am engaged to a nurse in Jamaica and I have sooo many questions abt this topic. I'm gonna jump right in.
    1. How much nursing experience should a nurse in Jamaica have before approaching one of these agencies or before this migration process can begin?
    2. Other than your video what is the best updated source of information regarding this process?
    3. What would the approximate cost of the migration process be? I understand you are not paying directly out of pocket. But there is a diff in rate of pay for agency nurses vs. core staff over x hrs or x yrs. Would you estimate it in the 10's of thousands??
    4. What was the dif in rate of pay for agency nurse vs core nurse at your facility?
    5. I am a US citizen. My fiancé is Jamaican and has no visa. In your opinion would it be better (faster, cheaper, etc.) to use one of the agencies mentioned to help her migrate or should we do it through the K1 (fiancé visa) process?
    A bit more background info on her current career migration option:
    She is a brand new nurse. The program/agency she found requires her to complete 18 months at KPH (Kingston Public Hospital) then they will begin the migration process. Once she arrives in America she has a select few states to work in; most options GIVEN TO HER (she did not choose) were southern states like Georgia, Florida etc. Similar to you, she will be contracted to work there for 3 yrs.
    No rate of pay has been discussed with her yet. I understand it's a bit early but when will she receive that information?

    • @thisistonicia4790
      @thisistonicia4790  Рік тому

      First question, I had one year experience when I signed on with Ogrady Peyton, but I had signed on with Medpro with only 6 months experience. Things have changed since then, so I don’t know how many years they require now.
      Agencies tend to explain the process to you once you sign up with them. And there are also other nurses on UA-cam that talk about their process, and their experiences with other agencies.

    • @thisistonicia4790
      @thisistonicia4790  Рік тому +2

      My contract with the agency was for 2 years and 3 months. If I had opted to buy out the contract it would have cost me around 50k if I just started, 30k if I worked a year already. So how much u would have to pay depends on how far in the contract u are.
      When my contract ended and I signed on as core staff, my pay didn’t change much actually. Persons believe that the agencies pay less that core staff because we are immigrants but that not entirely true. What happens is, hospitals pay the agencies to find nurses. The hospitals tend to pay the agencies at “travel rates” so the agencies are able to pay us the average rate for core staff and still make back the money they spent to get us here. So while I was on my contract I was actually paid better than core staff with the same years of experience as me.

    • @thisistonicia4790
      @thisistonicia4790  Рік тому

      I am not familiar with the timeframe for the fiancé visa so I cannot give an opinion on which process would be better.
