Alternatively, record your voiceover as a separate file and then inport it into shotcut as an audio track. Just have the video playing on silent while while you record your voice.
My problem is that I have recorded my audio with Audacity and import it to Shotcut but now the video finishes before the audio and I cant seem to have it flow/sync while the audio is playing.
This interface is so frustrating. It takes way to much extra stuff just to simply press play to record, drag, and drop. Your instructions are fine but this setup is so annoying.
Nice tutorial, it will save me a lot of time. Instead of doing twice the video for English and French. Ill be able to do 1 and just record over. Thank you very much
Seems like all the extra steps doesn't make this internal recording any easier than using your preferred audio recording app and importing MP3s into the playlist? Also I don't have the option for "none" on the video source dropdown.
Shame video editing software appears to be the opposite to intuitive! I've tried a few and all seem to go out of their way to hide what should be simple under layers of menus.
Update (2024): A "record audio" button is added to the Timeline. It has a mic icon. First select an appropriate moment in the timeline to add your voiceover, and click on the Mic button to start a new audio track. Speak normally. When you finish, click on the Mic button once more to stop recording. Now Shotcut converts the input to content, and shows the waveform in the new track. You can select another moment in the video and repeat the process. The new voiceover appears in the same audio track. (Shotcut does not create a new voiceover track each time you click the Mic button.) After finishing the voiceover for the whole video, you can adjust the relative volume of the voiceover track.
Can you record without creating a new audio file each time? In the middle of what is said bad additional recording, all recorded together, just like pr
thanks. i want to cut swear words out of fishing and golf videos. my voice over will be silence. will it work? i don't know because i'm so new at this....but i will subscribe.
You can detach the audio from the clip by right clicking the clip and look for the "detach audio". Then, you can select the part when they swear and just delete it, but don't connect the audio, just the leave the gap
This is perfect. Thank you for being short and sweet.
This is fantastic, quick, and exactly what I needed! Thank you very much!!

The easier option!

This was genuinely helpful! I had thought shortcut had no voiceover option but this makes sense!

In 2024, a new Mic button is added to the Timeline, which allows recording of voiceover in a new audio track. All the pain is gone!

this didnt help at all everytime I record my audio and play it back the mini screen is white and I can only hear and not see
You have to add A soundtrack and put the audio where you want it.
DRAG THE AUDIO RECORDING TO YOUR PLAYLIST AND THEN ADD IT TO YOUR TIMELINE
its so anoying t hat you have to save every single audio file is there a way around that?
No capture button
