I wouldn’t put either of them in those categories, Punisher kills scum on a global level while Thor isn’t even the strongest AVENGER. Thor is a middling MARVEL character in terms of power, which can’t begin to compare to your profile picture.

I'm also confused because a plot device is anything that pushes the story forward. We are literally left with a cliffhanger on what Punisher will do. That is literally a plot device. Heck the beer is a plot device if you want it to be..

Honestly what I really love about this, not only does it let thor show he is not just a brute but has plenty of wisdom. But also the fact that thor knows all to well about fighting just because he loves the fight as his younger more arrogant self would just fight for the thrill and show how strong he is. So I think it being thor talking to frank makes the most sense.

Frank isn’t doing it for that reason, though. His entire family was murdered by criminals. This is all purely for revenge. If there weren’t criminals in the world anymore, Frank wouldn’t be battling anyone. Frank isn’t hungry for battle, he is putting down/executing anyone who is the same as his family’s murderers, in an attempt to prevent them from killing other families.

It is interesting to witness this, and realize that Thor is probably one of the few people who can actually relate to Frank Castle and the Punisher mindset. The Punisher persona is all about being a warrior and striking down evildoers in the name of vengeance, and I don't think there is another Marvel character who would personally understand that mindset and the honor related to it better than Thor.

Thor is the best one to talk about this. Frank has been fighting and killing because it temporarily numbs the pain of his loss. Thor has been fighting endlessly for glory, vanity, and ego for hundreds of years. Not much a better reason, to fight because all you know to do is fight.

You should stop projecting human morals to gods, really.
Gods usually serve a function in the universe. Thor is the fighter, for example.
Just like how the sun shines because it is its purpose, Thor fights because that is his calling.
And yes, immortal beings are far more content just doing that ONE thing for long period of times, whereas mortals don’t have much in the patience and acceptance department.
Gods are more akin to natural disasters of forces of nature - they intervene, but they cannot be called intrinsically good or bad. Gods are more so neutral forces of the universe, and their favorable/unfavorable intervention are just the tides of the universe and those who were lucky/unlucky enough to be on the receiving end.

He has died a few times and been brought back (the Ragnarok cycle). My favorite was when he confronted Tony Stark in his Iron Man armor for cloning him. That was 2007 Thor (Vol. 3) #3 by J. Michael Straczynski and Olivier Coipel. Beautifully written and drawn. He showed Tony exactly whom he really was...the real Thor he had suppressed to better integrate with humans.

      You confuse stern with wise.
MCU actually portrays Thor as a mentally healthy adult, that learns to cope with losses and life….
He can be humorous, because humor is a healthy way to cope.
Marvel’s Thor in comics is kinda a brooding stern, stoic god. Cool, but not exactly healthy.
People are so blinded by media that they genuinely do not understand what genuine mental health or psychology even mean.
Because apparently having a normal, healthy outlook on life is “weak” according to media

I wonder what type of WISDOM, Thor would have against the likes of Thragg and his Viltrumite Empire from The Invincible Comics. A Wise and Experience God, vs a bunch Tantrum Children in the body of a Gods. Now that is something I’ll like to see. 🤔

    • @kingol4801
      @kingol4801 Місяць тому

Actually Vultramites are far from tantrum children.
They are space Nazi’s essentially. Very stern and collected, and loyal to their cause (even if their cause is horrific).
Just because Vultramites exercise their superiority over others and don’t “fight fair” does not mean they are throwing fits and tantrums.
They are cold and ruthless killing machines, if anything.
And yes, when you have the power to end any opposition in seconds, instead of having to argue with them and lead pointless conversation…. Taking the shot is the optimal way.
It is mean, it is unjust… but it is simply most effective.
You can have villain that goes on and on about justifying what they do and how they want to change the world…. Or you can have a Vultramite that kills a few billions of beings, until they cannot fight back anymore, and leave without having to explain oneself…
Like what is even the point? Winning over validation is a human thing to do (out of human bias of the fear of rejection and the need to fit in), and it is almost entirely useless in this context.
All Vultramite’s care about are their mission. Opinions of some aliens or ethics are irrelevant.
Because that is what optimal confrontation feels like - soul crushing and devastating. Anything less and it would imply they are no longer effective.
Vultramites are literally space Nazi, except unlike Nazi ideology (being wrong, because Aryan race is not superior to other humans)….. Vultramites ARE superior by their very nature.
Vultramites practice scientifically justified Nazism, essentially.
And if you learnt anything about WW2, you would know how terrifyingly EFFECTIVE and EFFICIENT Nazi regime was. Unethical to very core, but it is hard to argue with their capacity goal fulfillment (even if the goals are evil).
Tantrum children are the opposite. They are more akin to Homelander - personality and identity crisis over objective fulfillment and the cause/mission.
As Homelander said “no. No. I AM THE MASTER RACE… that is the whole point” when talking to Stormfront about her endgame of Aryan superbeings reigning supreme.

Many of the people that write Thor and practically everyone that's written him in the MCU forget that he's about 1000 years old. Not hard since we tiny mortals don't live that long. But it does mean that most of the life lessons we have learned or will learn he went through a few centuries ago. He doesn't need to "find himself." or prove he's "worthy" one more time. But most writers can't think of anything else to do with him anymore. And it's nice to see someone who's seen more war and on a greater scale than Frank could comprehend sort out his mess. Might be sacrilege to say online but i think Ennis did more harm than good to the character in the end.
