Indonesia is one of Asia's most populous countries, which isn't surprising as it is the 15th largest country in the world by area. Eleven of the country's cities have populations that have surpassed the one million resident milestones, including the capital city of Jakarta which has surpassed 8.5 million as of 2016. There are also over 100 cities that boost populations exceeding 100,000, and an additional 240 cities with minimum populations of 10,000 residents. The country's cities are scattered among 34 provinces. These provinces are the highest level of government, and these are broken down into cities and regencies. These are further split into districts.
According to estimates from 2015, Indonesia has an urban population of over 53%. The annual rate of urbanization is 2.69% since 2010, showing that more migrants and residents are moving to the more populous and developed urban areas. Steady declines in the rural population have been recorded over the last few decades, with numbers from 1960 showing that Indonesia had a rural population of 85%, which has almost been cut in half over the last 50 years. This can be attributed to the expansion of developed areas and relocation for employment and educational opportunities, similar to other countries around the world.

Indonesia has so many large cities
Actually, there is one big city that is not on the list. Tangerang Selatan (South Tangerang) has seceded from a greater Tangerang Regency (Second level administrative but not counted as municipality) in 2008. It's population in 2020 is roughly 1.8 million.
I think the reason is it just separated from Tangerang Regency some years ago and the stautus of Tangerang Selatan Municipality is not updated yet in the dataset. I hope it will be updated next time.

Berdasarkan daftar 30 kota dengan penduduk terbanyak di Indonesia , kota yang luas wilayahnya paling kecil adalah Kota Yogyakarta dengan luas hanya 32,5 km persegi , sedangkan kota lainnya di dalam daftar itu , memiliki luas wilayah lebih dari 40 km persegi . Bahkan lokasi perguruan - perguruan tinggi negeri , tidak berada di wilayah kota Yogyakarta , tapi berada di wilayah Kabupaten Sleman dan Bantul karena sempitnya wilayah Kota Yogyakarta, sedangkan bandara udara berada di Kab. Sleman dan Kulon Progo .
Iya makanya prediksi hingga th 2035 kota jogja hanya berpenduduk 500 an rb..itupun kepadatan dah lebih dr 13 rb/ km persegi.. Tapi ingat kota jogja ada di titik tengah perkotaan artinya kluar kota jogja masih berupa kota bukan Desa apalagi hutan.
Jadi sama kah dng surakrta ?

Sepertinya mereka confused dengan kota Tasikmalaya, karena secara administrative kota tasikmalaya terpisah dari kabupaten Tasikmalaya. Sepertinya yang ditampilkan adalah penduduk kota Tasikmalaya dan daerah sekitarnya yang masuk ke sebagian kabupaten tasikmalaya dan ciamis seperti dikutip dari wikipedia:
The population of the city (excluding the Tasikmalaya Regency, which surrounds the city to the west, south and east) was 634,948 according to the 2010 Census,[3] and increased to 716,155 at the 2020 Census.[4] Its built-up (or metro) area made of Tasikmalaya City and 14 neighbouring districts spread over Tasikmalaya and Ciamis regencies was home to 1,339,891 inhabitants as at the 2010 census.[5]
Begitu juga dengan Kota Cimahi (568ribu - 2020) tidak masuk dalam list, sepertinya masuk kedalam populasi kota Bandung (Bandung dan Cimahi masuk dalam satu wilayah metropolitan) padahal mereka terpisah secara administrative.
@@albaihaqi4871 gak juga..penduduk kota Bandung th 2020 emang segitu tanpa kota Cimahi..kalo ditambah Cimahi lebih dr 3 juta jiwa..utk Tasikmalaya secara administrasi emang 750 ribuan jiwa tp tdk semuanya berada di perkotaan krn wilayah kota Tasikmalaya msh bnyk yg berupa pedesaan..justru Cirebon lebih besar kotanya dibanding Tasikmalaya meskipun hanya 400 ribuan jiwa tp ditambah urban area sekitarnya di kab Cirebon (Kedawung Plered dan Tengah tani) totalnya sekitar 800 ribuan jiwa
Why? Hoax dari mana? Ini itu bukan menghitung jumlah penduduk yang terdaftar secara administratif di daerah tertentu, tapi ini jumlah masyarakat yang berpindah dari pedesaan (kabupaten) ke kota alias URBANISASI, data is real.. Jumlah masyarakat asli kota tasik 2020 716.000 popolasi + pertambahan populasi dari masyarakat yang URBANISASI,jadi data ini tuh bukan semata mata buat acuan bahwa kota tersebut banyak atau enggaknya, data ini di hitung menggunakan rumus matematika pertambahan populasi,jadi kesimpulannya data ini memang benar atau setidaknya mendekati dari angka yang sebenarnya terjadi... Plis dong di pake fikiranya buat mikir... Trus kan ini data menunjukan peningkatan pertahun ya? Ini tuh di hitung berdasarkan rata rata pertumbuhan tiap tahun,tapi kan kita gak tau bisa saja di tahun depan persentase penduduk suatu daerah bisa saja mengalami penurunan atau bahkan melesat.. Makanya jangan di pakai buat acuan serius. Faham?
