Great bass Super playing Can't help wondering how much more interesting this bass would sound with individual volume controls for each pickup to adjust the tonal balance!
Hello, love your playing. I actually looked for one of your videos just to hear you play, then found this wonderful bass. I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on muting technique. I'm interested in a five string, how to you go about making sure you don't get any unwanted rumble with a five string?
The problem with the HH is that 4 of the 5 settings sound almost the same. (Bridge alone sounds different.) The number of pickups at each setting is 2-2-4-2-2, and that 4 sounds like the 2's on each side of it. Instead I'd recommend the HS. You'd be able to identify the 5 settings blindfolded. They are: 1) bridge humbucker, 2) bridge single, 3) all three pickups, 4) bridge and neck single, 5) just neck single. In terms of number of pickups, it's 2-1-3-2-1. I think the HS is less popular because it "looks" like you're getting less, yet costs more. But remember there's a third pickup buried in the body that cancels hum on this model. All 5 settings are zero hum. While you could rewire an HH for single-coil sounds, they'd hum.
BedroomBassist naturally, I'm horribly picky lol. Diversity is the spice of life! But yeah, I love me a nice classic 2 band 4 banger, single H. It's just "the" quentessential stingray for me. That plus a good old P is all I need :D
I have a pre-EB SR, 2-band EQ and surprisingly, yes, the 2-band seems to sound a bit better to me than the 3-band. I also have a 2012 EBMM SR5HS. I find I need the low B pretty constantly, and I like the other settings on the HS a lot. I'm not sure if 2-band would sound better than 3 with the other pickup selections, so I've never thought about a 2-band HS. Generally speaking, I'd NEVER play something that could be played bridge humbucker on 4 strings on the EBMMSR5HS. The old one absolutely is the go-to bass for anything it can do, but that's less than half the stuff I play.
My DIY debut album 'NICKO_1' is OUT NOW!
It would mean the world to me if you gave it a spin. Thank you.

Matthew Brenes use the low B string as a thumb rest when not playing the low B which will mute the string and u won't get any rumble or overtones.
The best!
is that a song in 00.30 secondes ?

Nick, is this still for sale at all?
+J. Collins I think it was still in there when I last went in, yep!
never seen a StingRay sans pickguard
I came, I liked and I bought. Thank you :)
Peter
Jealous. I'd buy one of these in a heartbeat if I had the disposable income!
Thanks Nick. Off to the 1st band practice with it :)
Needs a stacked Vol/Blend pot!
nope, not the best, the only real stingray is the 4 string single H 2 band eq if you ask me ;P
oh, and it needs that classic pickguard..
+mouthmw Interesting! I actually love the look of this specifically because it has no pickguard! "It's a Music Man, Jim, but not as we know it..."
