A lot of news about people being beat up when they didn't follow it came out. Most then started showing up late to theatres to avoid such drama. Love the show's choice to show the Indian Flag flying high and someone being beat up beneath it for disagreeing with the rule. - Ah Kashmir, such a beautiful and dangerous place. Summarizing it is a pain but here it is. The border dividing Ind-Pak wasn't good by British. Pak claims Kashmir as their own, Indian Central government has always helped people there (for it's own gain). There have been reports from the state of Indian Army assaulting civilians. The civilians definitely don't like being under a strict regime (curfews, low internet connectivity) and have taken up arms when pushed too much. In 90s riots broke and genocide happened where Hindus were targeted by Muslims, forcing exodus of Hindus. The govt always appeases by saying they will be returned home but it doesn't happen. So tensions are always high in Kashmir, and hence why the guy didn't want to stand up during the Anthem (because of misdeeds by the Army).
