Thanks to your videos and your website, I've only now come to realize how crazy versatile this instrument is. I would love to add one to my budding flute collection.
Amazing key changes for a Xiao! I just got a Xiao and felt guilty for playing non-Chinese tunes, but it works great for them. Great to see the flexibility of this instrument demonstrated like this.
I am Chinese American and the first tune I played on the Xiao was Londonberry Air, so I'd say go for it and I hope you are still playing all kinds of tune with it!
finally a great version for this song thank you... was trying to find a good inspiration how the song can also be played... i like your version alot... ty
Beautifully performed Scott, I've always admired Your playing capabilities with a rim blown flute or just ANY flute for that matter. As a flute builder and player myself, I hope I can build one of Your flutes someday.
FPVActivity This is actually a Chinese flute called a Xiao. But it can play all the scales common to Native American flutes and there's a great article about it on Scott August's website explaining
The xiao has such a lovely warm sound and you display it fabulously! Bravo!

Beautiful playing! I didn't know the Xiao had that much range. Thanks for sharing.
Technically it has 2-1/2 octaves, but depending on the key in practice 2 or less octaves.

Wow! That's beautiful.
What is the purpose of the two holes below your right hand?
There are actually six and must effect the over all tuning. You would have to ask a maker.
Genio, abrazo desde Argentina!
