    I like how KH3 characterized Sora so much more than before. He's a happy guy, sure, but KH3 showed smaller 'blink and you miss it' glimpses to him. Corona was my first major realization when he gets sentimental but covers it up with a barb at Donald, before whispering "All for one, and one for all." I dunno why, but that hit me hard. Sora... He's grown up.

      My first was back in kh2 when he mouthed 'I love you' or 'thank you' to them when they lied to Mickey and went to help the Gardens. It showed that he expected them to side with the king (like back in Hollow Bastion, huh just got that parallel) but they didnt this time becasue they are that close.

      Man Sora had so much maturity in this game it was one of the thing that helped carry me through just how weak Sora was cutscene wise. I liked how he tried to figure out why the organization was acting the way there was. Too bad Donald and Goofy kept telling him not to worry about it. Although Sora was spamming that power of awakening like me spamming that attack button.

    Everyone overlooks Soras emotional intelligence, after all in the first game he gave up his life for his friends, COM tore his memories apart, 2 had him break down but ultimately was the beginning of the end, 3D made him more vulnérable to the darkness, and 3 hardened him by making him bare all these emotions in such a short span of time.
    He’s burdened so much but he never allows it to become other people’s problem. Honestly, he deserves all the naps.

    My thoughts is that Sora is a lot smarter then he lets on. He pretends to be goofy and ignorant because thats what his friends expect and love about him however Sora has a much deeper and smarter side to him hidden away inside of him. Right before Sora's world was thrown into chaos Kairi told Sora to "Never Change" throughout most of the KH sequals we've seen Sora struggle to stay the same person he was before Xehanort plunged Destiny Islands into darkness. What if Remind focuses on that other more serious side of Sora that he tries to keep hidden from his friends. That would be great to see

      We've seen it a couple of times. In Chain of Memories we've seen how Sora can get when he is 100% done with the bullshit he goes through. Also he has been shown that he can be smart and pretty cunning in battle. Sora also seems to understand complex things a lot easier and more often than he lets on. Its one reason why I think MOM is an adult Sora, both have a dark and mysterious side to them that both of them hide behind a goofy and playful exterior side

      @@sharkmessiah1018 Actually I like you point about Re:Com. He's kinda an ass in that game. Especially once you get halfway through. He doesn't really show respect for his friends and enemies; something that he is shown to have throughout the series. I think this is because of Kiri's influence on him. She keeps him grounded. At the same time he's completely unable to actually be with her dude to circumstances. I personally think a lot of the reason why people say the ending of KH3 is bad is because it's unfair to Sora.
      Think about it all of his friend (the keybladers) get their happy ending on Destiny Island. This is after Sora sacrificed everything to save his friends. Even the organization his main enemies end with their hearts restored and Luxo gets his friends back.
      I don't want to see Sora save himself in KH3 remind. It want to see him saved because low key wtf. Sora needs a break and a vacation with his girlfriend.

    • @shonascott5499
      @shonascott5499 5 років тому +32

      Yeah, he ignores his trauma and pretends to be happy and go-lucky like Donald and Goofy as a coping mechanism because he doesnt value his own well being as much as others. Sora doesn't know how to handle his trauma so he just represses it, something that, if Rage Form is any indication, will not be good for him in the long term.

    • @cassinoelle4289
      @cassinoelle4289 4 роки тому +10

      I agree that Sora seems to be dealing with some kind of trauma, but, I've been thinking, and I've come up with my own theory...
      What if that trauma wasn't from something on Sora's journey, but actually, was from something that happened in his past? What if, when he was younger, like maybe not even a second digit in age, Sora experienced some kind of terrible and horrific moments that caused him to become like this, causing him to think that he couldn't show fear or apprehension or stress when dealing with pressure, making him think that he was required to hide his pain behind his enthusiastic smile and happy-go-lucky personality?
      What these moments were, I can't really say for sure. Though I do have a few ideas, maybe it could be just one of these possibilities or maybe it could be all three...who knows? Who but Sora himself knows for sure what kind of traumatic experiences he suffered through as a kid? What kind of horribly painful experiences and hurtful moments did the poor boy have to push through during childhood, leading him to become the person he is now?
      Here are my ideas;
      Possibility #1:
      Maybe Sora was bullied as a child. That would explain his reactions to when Pete, the Organization, and even his friends were making fun of him for his lack of his powers and having to get the Power of Waking in order to... well, in order to actually be useful in saving Aqua and all of the other characters that needed to be saved. I mean, sure, his friends were obviously not intending to hurt him, they were just, you know, teasing him about it in a lighthearted, friendly way. But I can imagine that Sora would still be hurt by it if he had been bullied in school and/or, basically anywhere that wasn't his house, with kids calling him hurtful names, saying that he's weak or, (if he had shown early signs of his powers as a Keyblade Wielder,) people might've even been calling him a freak or abnormal, and, possibly even, hurting him, both physically and emotionally, by either physically attacking him when the teachers or other grown ups weren't around or just verbally pummeling him beyond belief.
      This could also kind of be what caused his reaction to the Mark of Mastery test results in Dream Drop Distance, only in a much less visible sense. If he was bullied during his childhood, with people probably telling him that he was absolutely worthless and would never amount to anything, the revelation of having failed such an important test for Keyblade Wielders, while it seemed like he wasn't bothered by it on the outside, on the inside, though, it could've reminded him of what he had been told as a child, and, in his mind, could've also proven that they were true, that he was just a failure and wasn't worthy to wield the Keyblade like his friends were.
      Possibility #2:
      Or maybe Sora experienced the loss of a friend or family member. That would explain why he just completely broke down in despair when he saw the rest of the Guardians of light perish right in front of him. Not only are the other Guardians his best friends, but having them ripped away from him so forcefully would, most likely, cause some really bad memories to resurface if he had lost someone before this. This could also be the case in some of the worlds that he visited in Kingdom Hearts 3, those worlds being "Kingdom of Corona", "Arendelle", and "The Caribbean", in all of which he was forced, once again, to witness the death of someone from those worlds, someone he cared about, those people being Flynn Rider, Anna and Will Turner. Even though they all turned out okay in the end, It's probably safe to assume that those events could've reawakened his suppressed memories of the person or people he lost, and, in turn, slowly reawakened his feelings of despair and loneliness, one chunk at a time, so that, by the time the Guardians of Light fell in the Keyblade Graveyard, he just couldn't take it anymore and completely shut down.
      Possibility #3:
      This one may be the most unlikely of my theories, but there are a few pieces of evidence that show that this could've happened.
      Maybe, the parents that he has now, might not even be his real parents.
      The reason I say this is because, for one thing, Sora never really talks about his parents, and, though we do hear his mother's voice in the beginning of Kingdom Hearts 1, after Sora learns that Destiny Islands was destroyed, his thoughts immediately went to Riku and Kairi, making it sound like he doesn't really have a strong enough relationship with his parents for him to be completely worried about whether or not they made it off the Islands. Now, don't get me wrong, Sora still cares about his parents, this much is clear, and it's also clear that his parents care deeply for him too, but, what if, the reason he's not as close with them as a child should be with their parents is because he's afraid of getting too close with them? Now, I know what you may be thinking: Why would Sora be afraid of his parents? Well, the only reason I can really think of is that, maybe, he wasn't born to the parents he has in the games, but to another couple who, for some unknown reason, aren't a part of his life anymore. One theory on this I have is that maybe his parents were also Keyblade Wielders and fought to protect Destiny Islands from the darkness. This would also explain why Sora can wield a Keyblade despite not having had the power given to him, because he is the son of two Keyblade Masters and he inherited the power from his parents. But something might've happened when Sora was still very young, too young to really remember it, causing his parents to fall in battle before they could teach him how to wield his Keyblade. The reason I think this could cause Sora to become afraid of getting close with his new parents is because, even though he didn't know that he could wield a Keyblade, maybe he was subconsciously afraid that if he got too close with his adoptive parents, he'd end up losing them to the darkness, just like he lost his real parents. So when Destiny Islands was swallowed by the darkness, while he didn't seem too worried about his parents, in reality, he was just trying to hide it and was internally beating himself up about it, thinking that he had failed to protect his adoptive parents and his real parents.
      I'm not saying this is actually true, it's just a theory, I'm just saying that maybe something from his past is what caused him to become the person he is now...

      There are different coping mechanisms for each person when they face circumstances like this. I agree, this is probably how Sora keeps himself going in spite of what he faces. I am not sure it will be healthy in the long run though. I have seen a few people in fiction try this, and it generally doesn't work forever.

    • @DreamerFromTheDepths
      @DreamerFromTheDepths 4 роки тому +2

      Yes, but why is he happy go lucky at all? Donald and Goofy, they forced him to be happy or they would have ditched him on Traverse Town.
      Just think about that "stop crying about your friends or never see them again."
      None of them even knew that Kairi or Riku were still alive, and for no reason whatsoever Donald actively pushes Riku away from them, personally I think Donald and Goofy are the result of his weaknesses after KH 1.
      It's weird to say but KH 1 was mentally far more stable than any other version of himself, since KH 1 Sora was independent and almost lost everything in Deep Jungle because of it, after that I think his smiles have come about out of fear.
      He's afraid of being trapped without his friends, because he's constantly been told by destiny that Sora is nothing without his friends, that's why Sora breaks when the entire crew except Riku gets hit by the Heartless storm.
      Riku is like Sora from KH 1 or perhaps it's better to say that Riku rubbed off on KH 1 Sora which is why Sora was so strong in KH 1 despite his lack of experience and talent.
      I don't know I just think it's interesting how Riku and Sora are fundamentally the same but both are different for their own reasons, all of Riku's battles were fought practically on his own, Riku has to be the strongest one because he always has to fight alone, Sora on the other hand has become extremely reliant on other people because of his experiences.
      This is why Sora is weaker after Chain of Memories.

    • @lordofcreativity9637
      @lordofcreativity9637 4 роки тому +4

      That is one perspective. I personally don't see it as a weakness to be willing to rely on others for help when needed. Riku needed help too, King Micky and Ansem. He didn't make it this far entirely on his own and if not for them, his own darkness may well have overcome him. Some see it as weakness to have to rely on others, but those who attempt to forge forward alone eventually find themselves in a situation that they cannot overcome alone. I would prefer to have people at my back that I can trust then walk forward alone. Besides, if I face problems with others, then I can see if they can help me or at least divide the problem for each person there. It would be easier than facing things alone. Aside from being able to rely on them, it is a lot less lonely that way and I may find I can learn from them in ways that will benefit me in the long run. This is how I see it and of course anyone is free to disagree with me. I am going to give my personal perspectives below regarding the situation. I mean no offense, this is only my opinion.
      As far as Sora is concerned, I think he is dealing with a lot especially since every time he gets to a point where it seems that things are resolved (I snap my fingers) something new comes along to disrupt his life. In Kingdom Hearts 2 he seemed significantly less happy to know that his journey would be twice as difficult as Kingdom Hearts 1. He hoped that closing the door to darkness would restore peace to the worlds, but things were not that simple. Regarding him being happy, I think in part he does it to hide these things, partly because he clearly finds things he still likes about his adventures, and partly because being happy is easier than being depressed or unhappy. Donald seemed to be incredibly focused on their mission at the beginning and even later on which is why he seemed stern at times. Goofy is, well Goofy. Friendly and trusting to a fault and willing to help Sora even if it is not directly a part of their mission.
      Naturally as times goes and they get to know him better, their friendship improves. Even if they wanted to leave him behind, King Micky told them to stick with him and I think they prefer to try and be happy rather than be upset all the time. I have read fictions where people try to be depressed and upset all the time while going through their journey. Typically they need something to keep them going. I attribute Donald being angry at Riku as Donald showing all of his more annoying traits at once. While Sora has no idea at the time he meets them if Riku or Kairi are in fact alive, he can't very well find out by staying in Traverse Town when to his knowledge at the time, neither of them are there.
      Regarding him breaking down at the heartless storm, please consider this. Even if they choose to fight with just Riku and Sora, they don't know at that point if they have any guarantee of getting their friends back if they win. Plus, they don't even know if they can win since they are now facing thirteen powerful individuals at once with two people when they had no guarantee of winning with all of them together. Not to mention Xehanort managing to reduce their numbers that way shows how he has planned everything and ultimately will win no matter what they do. I expect he was prepared for such an outcome if it would bring the result he desired. He is a master of manipulation and twisting events to his will. I see Riku comforting him after that to be his attempt to try and help Sora despite the fact that they are clearly in the worst situation they have ever been in. I don't know if he even had a plan at that point, but I give him points for trying.
      I don't know where destiny comes into this partly because quite frankly I hesitate to believe fully in destiny. There are things in life we cannot control, but we can control certain things and we can ultimately choose what to make of our circumstances. Both Sora and Riku along with other characters have choices to make which influence the paths they take. In the end, their decisions are what bring them to where they are, not just events that are beyond their control. While there have been voices stating that Sora will be the one to open the door, he is ultimately the one who decides what he does with his life. I feel the same about all fictional characters, in the end each person has things that they cannot control and choices to make. The decisions we make are what determine what path we walk. These are my own personal conclusions and are not meant as an offense or attack on anyone else. I just want to express how I see things. If I have caused offense then I apologize and if anyone here desires it, I will happily leave to avoid any arguments. I know that some will disagree with me and I respect that. Everyone here has just as much right to their opinion as I do to mine.

    "a little hurt can't be all that bad" - Sora explained this in Twilight Town (while giving a nod to Roxas teaching him about hurt in Re:Coded). Pain is a motivator for Sora. Exactly the reason why Xehanort deep-sixed Kairi.
    Also, Sora reliving the pain of his friends in the Graveyard shows how Darkness really does manifest itself in different ways depending on your feelings and connections to it. MoM alluded to this. It preys on your deepest fears and makes it hard for you to face it. (Face My Fears). But Riku had a brave enough heart to face that Darkness, hence the name of his weapon, Braveheart. KH3 made Sora stronger without his friends. Between Re:Coded and DDD, Roxas set Sora up for this beautifully in KH3.

    • @shonascott5499
      @shonascott5499 3 роки тому +7

      Riku mainly faced his darkness or "fear" as you put it in Chain of Memories, Days and KH2 so by the time DDD came he had all but gotten over it and grown so he didn't fall into darkness due to Xehanort. Sora, meanwhile, has been in a way crippled by Donald and Goofy. Sora showed way more varied emotion until they basically forced him to not be sad in KH1 ("this ship runs on happy faces. no frowning, no sad faces"). Sora wasn't allowed to face his darkness himself and grow because of the unhealthy mindset instilled into him, as seen as early as CoM when he told Naminé not to cry because it would make him feel bad. Sora stopped opening up as much about his emotions probably for the same reason; if he showed negative emotions then others, who he believes he has to keep happy, would feel bad.

  • @khfreak5531
    @khfreak5531 5 років тому +211

    In the first Kingdom Hearts/COM he took things way more seriously than he seemed to later on. He showed his raw emotions more often and you got to see that he was actually quite depressed and frustrated throughout it all. Because he’s matured, he’s learned to turn the other cheek in those situations. Or at least has learned to pretend to. A facade of confidence and aloofness. To fool his enemies and maybe even himself. That’s why MOM being a version of him would make sense. Sora is often much smarter than he lets on and let’s people assume he’s that same carefree spirit he’s always been. This of course is me over analyzing. Just thoughts.

      I don't think Sora is smarter than he let's people see because it's never been shown throughout the game, and it wouldn't make sense or even need to be a thing. Hes a kid who has never left his island. At first him being the way he was made sense because things attacked his island and hes looking for his friends. But as time goes on, although things are still going on, he knows how to fight it and stop it so he doesnt have to be as guarded and emotional as he used to be.
      That facade doesnt work with the series.

      @@jakesteel90 honestly I think Sora acting so naive and somewhat dumb in DDD was just the fact that he thought none of it was real. He believed everything was a part of his test and that he wasnt in actual danger and that with no one else around to comfort him in his moments of doubt and confusion over everything since no one tells him ANYTHING, Sora tried to act more carefree and childish to protect himself. No one told Sora anything so him being confused makes sense because, unlike the audience and even Riku, we dont have the time or knowledge that something is up to really analysis what's going on. Sora trusted Yen Sid and believed everything was ok and it cost him.

    Sora is a cinnamon roll, which is a person who is kind and gentle, who would undergo emotional suffering. And is also a rolling stone, which is someone who is can't settle in one place for long. If we combine the two things together, we'd get a Cinnamon Rolling stone - a kind and gentle person who is unwilling to stay in one place, *and* would go through emotional suffering.

    I dont know about all that. Sora always seemed to respond to the emotions his friends have when you look at his non biased though he is always care free. It seems more like his friends are holding him down in this one. You start to realize more that sora in his raw state is more relaxed then any of them. They seem to prod him to get him going but in reality it's never him that needs help but always them. From Hercules to goofy sora always bears there weight not his own. It almost feels like your playing to help them not yourself. It's kind of refreshing though to have a character whose not about constently bettering himself but instead others. Hes a literal hero and you dont see that much in games hes not trying to avenge the world or anything hes judt trying to help his friends. And in reality yeah they go at him but think about what there going through it's almost like there shoving there frustrations on him becouse they know he can take it. If this was a anime sora would be goku everyone is like sora save us while trying to act cool about it while sora is just trying to figure himself out. I dont see sora as weak at all he is still as strong as the beggining with as many abilities as well even the game in the begginin is like which level of op do you want? They harass him but truthfully if you look at it now biased without sora they'd be dead or worse but without them I find it hard to think that sora would be in a bind at all. It's not his problem that there world is burning literally but he has a bleeding heart which is really good to see.

      This is interesting. Well, now that I realize it, Sora never had the opportunity to discover himself because all of his adventures were about helping someone or saving a friend, saving the worlds. Well, his duty as Keyblade Wielder and beyond that assumes so many responsibilities that he does not have any time to manage all these emotions and events since he was launched into the adventure. Sora has come to suffer from low self-esteem believing himself worthless without his friends or guilty and Sora is a force to be reckoned with but I am curious how much he can do when he is trusting and determined because his strength seems to be affected by his emotional state. of the. What I'm trying to say is that Sora's quality - his selflessness, his compassion and his good heart - is also his vice because he comes to self-deprecation, being deceived and sacrificing himself. I'm going to give an example: Riku was able to discover himself and he was able to have his time to discover what was bothering him, to reflect on what he really wanted and he was not alone. Mickey helped him as he could and he was able to discover the meaning of having a Keyblade "The power ”. to protect what matters to me.” What I'm trying to say is that Sora and Riku's roles now seem to be reversed. Riku could have closed one of his stages and started a new one but Sora hardly seems to notice what bothers him and what causes him conflict. Which I find interesting and I hope that it can be further explored in KHIV. 🗝️❤

    (Post remind)
    When I first played kh3 I didn't really notice all those things but on my second playthrough I really did start to look deeper, and especially in remind he seems more mature and determined, but something that really caught my eye that I see like no one talking about is that before the battle with yozora, Sora seems scared to fight him, which is something we never really see from sora, he doesn't really get scared like that when he's about to fight something, he doesn't even get scared when fighting the biggest heartless or nobodies, he didn't even seem scared when fighting the organization members, but that scene before the fight with yozora really sticks out to me

  • @iggyp4390

    Great vid and topic!
    I liked Sora a lot in KH3. He seemed much more like his KH2 self, but with an added maturity and lack of self-confidence. I think his character dev might even be a major plot point of Re Mind.
    The one thing that made me convinced KH3 was a fakeout ending/worldline was that, throughout the game, it was hinted that Xehanort wanted Sora as his 13th vessel.
    I personally think Xehanort’s entire plan for base Kh3 was to break Sora and cause him to fall to darkness/misuse the Power of Waking (which, being a Sleeping ability, must be tied to darkness), so that he could grab him as his 13th vessel in the True Worldline-ReMind.
    There are multiple references to Sora being guided by Xehanort throughout the game, but the most significant is what Young Xehanort says in Toy Box about “split worlds.” He made it clear that he was testing how the heart responds to being separated/disconnected from its strongest bonds. The same way Buzz fell to darkness after being torn from Andy, isn’t it likely that Sora would fall to darkness if torn from Kairi?...
    What if Sora becoming depressed and losing hope was Xehanort’s ultimate goal in base KH3?

    I actually have a theory that the master of masters might be an alternate version of sora that followed the riku path, similar to how yozora is an alternative Riku that followed sora's path ( mainly given how the master's mannerisms and movements while speaking give off a very "sora vibe") and that he went back in order to obtain a very specific outcome in the future since time travel is a thing in this series...I also believe Skuld might be in the black box and that Namine might be ava in the same way that Roxas is Ven ...but I digress lol

    One of the biggest problems that see in this game is that it felt like all the characters were just complete dicks to Sora through out it. They'd always talk about how great Rikku is all the while forgetting & belittling EVERYTHING Sora has done up to that point. Because of that, Sora felt like her was insignificant in anything he did. That's why Sora was different in Kingdom Hearts 3, it's because everyone else broke him because they wouldn't acknowledge any of the good he did. ( & if there was any mention of any good Sora did, it was always put in the foreground compared to what Rikku did.)

      If anything, Riku is the one who got fucked in KH3 cause you only fight as him twice (or thrice including the Remind dlc) he's only a conditional party member unlike in KH2 where he was the party member for the last world. Riku is hands down one of the least screened deuteragonists in all of gaming. EVERY time he's a "main protagonist", it is always ALONGSIDE Sora being a main character too. That is to say, Riku does not have his OWN game, and it's sad to see that even going forward from this point he'll probably never get one

    Sora is actually a pretty interesting character, it's just that he has a very strong persona and doesn't let certain parts of himself out into the open that often. You have to read inbetween the lines a lot with him and using the other "Soras" as a guide to help figure him out. A really good example is the conversation Ventus and Vanitas have at the beginning of BBS, swap out Terra for Riku and it's almost like a conversation Sora may have had with himself at the beginning of KH1

    For me, I can’t see what Sora’s tragedy will bring, but throughout the KH series, Sora struggled to stay as he was and changed. True, and I hope that he manages to keep the traits that have made him such a likeable character, at least to me. Still, I noticed that ever since Kingdom Hearts 2 while he has been as enthusiastic as ever to help his friends and other people, the experiences he has had have worn him down to a degree. By the end of Kingdom Hearts 2, he genuinely seemed happy to be back on the islands in contrast to his eager desire to leave and explore in 1. I would imagine when he finally gets done with whatever new disaster is going to appear, he and his friends will have earned themselves a long rest and vacation from all this. Still, I hope he is still able to bring a smile to our faces when all is said and done.

    An entire game playing as Sora completely alone for the first time since the very first few hours of Kingdom Hearts 1.
    Obviously he needs level up abilities so perhaps this could improve the impression of Links people have. They weren't explained like every other power in the game like even dream eaters. Plus most major mechanics that had significance were op from at first. Making it relevant to the story and Soras small arsenal using his thoughts of his friends to help him in battle makes the loneliness more apparent and could drive Sora to do thinks he may normally never do. Memories powering attacks sounds like a Namura thing to do as well.

  • @rookiedrifter4273
    @rookiedrifter4273 4 роки тому +6

    I mean I think it's really just flat out starting to get to him. I don't think people understand this well.
    He was 14 at the start of KH1. 14 years old. I, being on the younger end of my grade, was a freshman in high school. I hadn't even taken GEOMETRY by that point. It was the first year that I read any classic literature. I didn't know how chemistry worked.
    So, let's think about it.
    Couple days before summer vacation ends, you see a storm in your town, and then it gets swallowed up into basically HELL, and then your best friend willingly chooses to become a fallen angel/demon. The girl who you have a super hard crush on gets porfed out of existence, and your parents and the rest of your town gets erased too. Sucks, right? But wait, there's more!
    You wake up in the middle of a plaza in the middle of a city with a weird key weapon thing in your hand, fight a dude with a GUNBLADE and get WHOOPED, and then he tells you that because this key thing decided to be yours, pretty much everyone in existence wants to kill you to take your power for their own.
    ON TOP OF ALL OF THIS
    You are then sent on a two year long journey through multiple worlds, outer space, actual hell itself, facing off against SEPHIROTH, literal Gods, your demonic best friend who's now your enemy, and many more. You also almost get possessed, and throughout the whole journey you are constantly berated and demeaned by just about every figure of authority you encounter because "oh you're like 15 what do you know" even though you've saved the entire universe multiple times, without a single modicum of their help, thank you very much, and still have to keep fighting and act like this happy-go-lucky kid?
    Sora is basically a knight at this point. With all the stuff that has happened to him he has about as much tragic backstory as Anakin Skywalker. Stop treating him like a child.

    • @lordofcreativity9637
      @lordofcreativity9637 4 роки тому +3

      Well said. I think at times there is the tendency among some people to forget that these characters are supposed to actually exhibit human emotions and experiences. It is possible to forget that the things they are going through are things that would likely break others who experienced them. We are fortunate from our perspective to view this as a game (and for some who I can't understand) to view it as nothing more than figures who don't exist experiencing things that have no consequence or meaning. Sora and his friends don't have that luxury. To them, everything that is happening is very real, very terrifying, very sad, and very painful. Fortunately, the good parts are real to them as well, but still.

  • @mikomiakari3949

    Thank you! This video articulates so much why this series is my favorite and why it resonates with me so deeply.
    Over the course of Kingdom Hearts III we see Sora get really beat down leading up to the final confrontation. The scene with Vanitas in the Monsters Inc World struck a particular cord with me and got me thinking.
    One of the first things that Donald and Goofy said to him was: "No frowns. This ship runs on happy faces."
    What had always been a silly and lighthearted moment in the series becomes pretty dark when you realize, Sora is told out the gate that even if he is sad or frustrated, he's not supposed to show it.
    So he really doesn't until the end of DDD when he almost falls to darkness.
    Then, when he's almost out of health in KHIII, you gain the Rage form, this is the personification of Sora's depression and repressed emotions. Using your powerful attack, takes more health away. Having struggled with depression for many years that hits home for me in a painful way.
    I got a Playstation 2 for my birthday when I was in highschool. My own personal console that I didn't have to share with my brothers. I wanted it just to play this crazy crossover game - Disney AND Final Fantasy....uh, yes, please. I didn't get the game until Christmas the next year and it was the first game I owned as I had been renting or borrowing from friends.
    I played through Kingdom Hearts I a year after my mom had died of cancer on Christmas Eve (It was the first game I ever beat totally on my own). So Sora being a kid one day and then, the next losing his whole world, I felt that. I didn't realize how much I felt that, until I began reflecting on what he goes through at the end of Kingdom Hearts III.
    I've bought multiple consoles just to play through each game. It's by far my favorite series and Sora's my favorite character. Kingdom Hearts is often joked on for having a convoluted story.
    It's not complicated. It's about good vs. evil, because duh and also Disney. But it's also about not letting your failures, losses make you give up.
    May your heart be your guiding key.

    More edge is always good because darkness always pushes the other side to combat it even harder. The darker aspects have always been my favorite part of the series ever since I was a kid. My friends and I would always recite KH1 Ansem’s lines word for word because he was such a dark enigmatic character, and was a lot of fun to emulate. I absolutely agree that there needs to be a balance of light and dark though. Too much darkness would make darkness lose what makes it so cool and forbidden, and that would also simultaneously take away any semblance of hope from the world or it’s characters...which is just boring. That’s probably why Riku is my favorite character. I love how he chooses to fight for the light, even after he succumbed to the darkness. He uses his knowledge of darkness to his advantage, and has become stronger for it. None of that would be possible if there wasn’t that balance though.

The whole game was preparing us for that major hit. I haven't played the DLC yet, but I have watched the cut scenes on UA-cam. I feel sora is going to be a huge character in the future. I feel he is so much more then what we think him to be. Sora is different because after fighting this never ending battle for years and years, being betrayed, abandoned, doubted, and fell to darkness more then once, he finally is victories, with everyone by his side, and all that he fought for is ripped from him again, and he’s taken to a strange world he doesn’t know.

      It hasn't been years and years. It's been like two. And that's alot to go through for a short period of time. But at the same time. Others have had it worse. And i get that Sora is the main character, but its sage to say that these characters mental health isnt an actual thing. Look at Axel who has been through what Sora has been through and we never see any consequences to what he had to deal with. And hes been dealing with it longer than sora has

    • @KingOfDepravity

      Homez18 id argue that his mental stress started when he took in Vens heart to repair after he lost Terra to the darkness, and losing so completely to Xehanort, and Vanitas.

    I honstly think its cause of roxes at the end on DDD Roxes gave sora all his memores, and then he's a lot more quiet deep in though similer to roxes thats why at that scene in KH3 he said he was think about roxes. Roxes sad story definatly had an effect on sora.

    Sora might be getting back on touch with reality, for years he's been lying to himself I think, does anyone remember Kingdom Hearts 1? He never cared about anything or anyone except for going home and finding Riku and Kairi, he really didn't care about Donald and Goofy and on top of that he was FORCED to smile and be happy by Donald and Goofy, they effectively told him his emotions were null, they wouldn't take him if he was sad even if he had a right to feel that way.
    It's the same sort of thing that leads most men to depression, not allowed to feel sad so you don't, but it bottles up and the World punishes you for it with depression, something that easily cripples everyone it meets.
    Sora was a selfish child in Kingdom Hearts 1 and then everyone around him forced him to go against his nature, for a while the mask they had him wear was becoming who he was.
    At heart going completely against our nature is dangerous for us, sure you can go against it in many ways but to completely change everything about yourself will destroy you in the end, because you're going against your own free will in a way.

    • @insertnamehere2746
      @insertnamehere2746 2 роки тому +2

      Calling Sora a selfish child in KH1 is one of the BIGGEST stretches i've heard in a long time. The fact that he was willing to dive in the darkness for Riku and searched endlessly for Kairi proves he's unselfish. For a while they're literally the only two big friends that he has from the players point of view, so saying "oh he ONLY cared about them" They are practically the ONLY people the story's concerned about for a while anyways

  • @skilletfan9257

  • @sleepyprinny

    ...Dood.
    This all began and ended with Kairi.
    And, let's be real. Nobody is just gonna let their girl be shattered into million pieces and stay that way if they can fix it/undo it.
    And that's especially true for Sora.
    But then.
    The price you pay is what I'm interested in.
    That and to see who Yozors is to Sora.

    So I was replaying remind and it just dawned on me that Sora isn't the hero of the Dark Seeker Saga. He's the sacrifice needed for the new world.
    The remind DLC shows us that technically Sora isn't even a guardian of light the seven confirmed are Roxas, Xion, Ven, Aqua, Terra, Micky and Riku. Sora literally gives up his place in the world so that they can all have a second chance to stop the 13 darknesses and save the day.

      @@bouillebieber34 No I don't think so. Because the guardians of light are only officially revealed in Re:Mind. Xion, Roxas, Riku, Micky, Ven, Terra and Aqua are considered guardians based on Sora tracing his connection with Kiri to them.
      I think "The light" that is being guarded is Kiri and Sora. Both of whom are direct targets of the Organization. Both are also shown to have timeline breaking powers.

    Sora does not make the best decisions even when it comes to dashing into a battle head at times I will admit that.
    but to say that sora is less mature than Roxas. where are these roxas is Fanboys getting this crap cuz I like the part out some facts in the Kingdom Hearts franchise to prove my point that is not true at all.
    Roxas actually is not that mature Roxas tried to take over a body that did not belong to him.
    if we're being honest or I had every right to his body and his Hard Rock This should never have existed in the first place and even knowing that so I did not old Roxas a damn thing so I went out of his way even if it cost him his own existence to find a way to give Roxy has his own body so there's that.

    If you look at the KH Series, Sora is the ONLY truly selfless character in the series. Maybe this is the type of person MoM was trying to create(or prevent) with the foretellers? All of the foretellers relate to a 7 deadly sin, and they all share a very selfish personality trait, which leads to their downfall.

    How to get these different endings instead of showing Sora or Yozora fallen Do we see more of the detail of whats gonna happen to Sora when he gets back or when he survives or anything like that.... 😯 Would I use him again? If I have to use Kairi and Aqua I would be so Upset to not hear the jokes of Sora, Donald and Goofy together it wouldnt be right without Sora 😰
