As kids we used to put the old bigger 10ps on the tracks...we then drilled a hole in the top and made a neck loop out of old shoe laces and finally stamped our names on them in metalwork class...just like military dog tags.
I'm 53 and I do remember putting coins on the track to flatten them. I also remember putting small stones on the track (don't do this now children) to crush them into dust, then we used the dust for fingerprint dust when playing detective. Silly I know, but we didn't have mobile phones or iPads back then.
The kids in my family still put 2p’s on the track of the steam train down on the Isle of Wight. Done it for years. Great fun. Brilliant video as always 👍🏽
What a lovely way to humanize your finds "And this piece here, was some kid left a penny behind to get flattened out by a train, and this was the result."
Are you sure the lipstick isn't a 22LR rimfire case? They don't have the central percussion cap you get on normal bullet casings. The slug could be from that as well?
Great bit of detective work,we used to do it , it was always better if you did it where the rails join at the fishplates, because it leaves a bit of the coin untouched where it gets forced into the join.
Good video lads. Congrats on the finds. That was a cool penny. We have a whole collection of flattened change for my niece we used to live right across the 2 lane from the tracts. And like 25 years ago she would always want to do it after work if i had any extra change. Now she has a little one but doesnt live by train tracks. Oh well one day well do it again. Good showing boys.
Great Show!. We Look forward to each and every video of the WW2W boy's. Stay Safe & well!. Thank you for all your hard work making these videos. From The entire Jackson Family, Papillion Nebraska.
Ahh those were the days! Real proper entertainment, defacing a coin of the realm! LoL! Well done on the find, guys. Challenge for You: try and find an older coin! We think you are really great, Callum, but if You could be a little bit more switched on for "Callums Comments", that would be wonderful! ;-) Thank You for still churning out the videos guys, we appreciate it takes a bit of effort. You can't beat Friday evening round the fire with the Wendals!
I remember filing an old halfpenny flat , folding it in two and shaping the wings and fuselage into an airplane during metal work , soldering it to a safety pin and wearing it on my school blazer .. Then some thieving sod stole it ...!!! 😳. The story about flatting coins on train line brought back memories of my Dad and what he did as a lad , he taught me how to make airplane badges ,.. Amazing what the kids did to keep their selves amused back in the late 30's early 40's ..🤓
My grandfather gave me an old British penny from 1797, but it had been Americanized. There was a shortage of hard currency in the U.S. at the time but people weren't fond of King George at the time so they took a chisel to it and struck 3 deep marks through his face. Ruined the value of the coin (pretty worn anyway, although clearly readable) but made it a much more interesting story.
I’m 45 and did that dozens of times as a young lad . Sometimes it would get so hot it would stick to the wheel on the train and eventually fly off somewhere down the tracks. I lost a lot that way 😏👍🏼
we would do that in the 70s but you had to watch because the flattened penny would fling of and if you did not see in which direction it went it was lost forever or so you would think
WW2 Wendal did they sort you another detector out ? They should be good advertising for them and be great for you guys ,would love to see you doing more metal detecting vids with ya ww2 influence , top stuff 👍👍👍👍
Great little story about the history of bored pre-gamer kids, but James behind a bar (with hand pumps) drinking F#sters from a can. Tell me this was an optical illusion?
As kids we used to put the old bigger 10ps on the tracks...we then drilled a hole in the top and made a neck loop out of old shoe laces and finally stamped our names on them in metalwork class...just like military dog tags.
Cheers Steve. Happier times.
Thanks James, love the flattened penny. A bit of history.
Thanks Joe. Glad you enjoyed it.
I am 60 as a kid we put pennies on the tracks too. Finding them afterwards was always difficult, they would fly of 40 or 50 feet sometimes.
Cheers Trev we think that's what could have happened here.

Cheers stay safe down there.
Good story.
Sometimes the treasure is the story and sometimes the story is the treasure.
That's it, the penny is worthless but made our day.
What a lovely way to humanize your finds "And this piece here, was some kid left a penny behind to get flattened out by a train, and this was the result."
Cheers Spot. We're still surprised children would destroy money though.
I think the shell case you found that you called a lipstick is a 9mm garden gun shot gun shell.
It had a famous makeup brands logo where the headstamp should be.
Are you sure the lipstick isn't a 22LR rimfire case? They don't have the central percussion cap you get on normal bullet casings. The slug could be from that as well?
Definitely a lipstick case. There was a well known logo where the headstamp would have been.
Great video guys. Love the hear the stories. Can just imagine a young boy hiding in the bushes waiting on a train. Great job.
Cheers. Strange to think how old that boy would be now.
I remember sticking pennies on the tracks....they'd just disappear though....another great vid, thanks guys!
Thanks Rosie more coming soon.
A little tip for you. Soak the coin in vinegar for about an hour or so and then you can see what's on the coin 🙂
That's just what Grandma Wendal does with some of our finds.
Great finds!
Great comment.
Yes a nice find and a great story..
Thanks guys...👍
Cheers, hopefully new content coming soon.
Great bit of detective work,we used to do it , it was always better if you did it where the rails join at the fishplates, because it leaves a bit of the coin untouched where it gets forced into the join.

The old coin on the tracks trick, awesome find.
Cheers Sully. It took a bit of working out what it was.

Thanks Tom. Make sure one day you pass the coins and the story on.
@@ww2wendal34 no worries there boys. I love them old stories.
Super history lesson. Prefer your magnet fishing videos than the metal detecting stuff.
Variety is the spice of life.
Lots of finds, some coins. The compact and the lipstick probably from the same purse. That old coin’s story was interesting.
Cheers Coni, nice little find the coin wasn't it.
Great Show!. We Look forward to each and every video of the WW2W boy's. Stay Safe & well!. Thank you for all your hard work making these videos. From The entire Jackson Family, Papillion Nebraska.

Cheers Andy. We do find older coins all the time, but none of them have such an interesting back story as this one.

Cheers Carl, the coin made our day.

I’m 45 and did that dozens of times as a young lad . Sometimes it would get so hot it would stick to the wheel on the train and eventually fly off somewhere down the tracks. I lost a lot that way 😏👍🏼
That could be what happened here then, cheers.
we would do that in the 70s but you had to watch because the flattened penny would fling of and if you did not see in which direction it went it was lost forever or so you would think

Put pennies on the track in the 60s, just for the entertainment value, much like modern magnet fishing, just for curiosity.
Cheers
