There was an episode of TNG where Barclay was afraid of using transporters, and we saw what it look like while he was beaming. He was diagnosed with transporter psychosis. But there are people in the transporter, and he had to go into the transporter to grab them out.
Yes I was just about to make a simular comment. I guess he forgot about the beaming perspective they showed of Barcley in the data stream while beaming
I feel like the scene where La'an is drinking the blood wine is an homage to the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark where we are introduced to Marion in Nepal.
The Cage is actually set before Strange New Worlds, so Spock exploring his humanity here doesn’t explain him smiling in The Cage. There was an attempt at an explanation in the Short Trek entitled Q&A.
There was an episode of Next Generation with aliens inside the trasporters where we saw transporters from the perspective of the transpotees
This is my first time watching your channel; I wanted to see a breakdown of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and you were the only one that was SO comprehensive and fun! Thansk!! I'll be back!!
You brought up a lot of connection points between this episode and other events in Star Trek history...thanks. However, when M'Benga and Chapel are beamed back to the Enterprise, you said that that was the first incidence of seeing the transport from the point-of-view of the person being transported. While it apparently was an non-nominal transport, we see what Lt. Barclay sees during transport in TNG - S6E2 "Realm of Fear". I think it happens one other time but I can't remember where.
While I agree that Barclay was the first shown on screen, this would be the first "recorded" incident in the cannon timeline.
1:13: "This facility is located on the edge of the Sol system, near Klingon space."
whhaaaat? :D
Enterprise was so underrated. It was some really great Trek.
I was waiting for Commander Pellier to smack Spock in the chops and go " NOOOOO Peeeking" lol
At 7:50, that’s an antimatter detonator, not Thermal Detonator, although clearly it’s a veiled Star Wars reference to the scene in Return of the Jedi, where Princess Leia, under the guise of a Bounty Hunter Boushh, (whose costume btw, resembles what the Breen in Star Trek wear) threatens to detonate in Jabba the Hut’s palace.
I think the last time Spock was in command of the Enterprise was in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country after Captain Kirk and Dr. McCoy were arrested for the assassination of Chancellor Gorkon.
The original D-7 model debuted in TOS Season 3, "The Enterprise Incident." With the CG remastered Star Trek series, the D-7 appears in "Errand of Mercy."
That was incredible! Thank you for this video, all the little things I missed, like Cetus on the screen. I'm glad you made this. I think the only other time the POV of the transported came up was with a STNG episode with Barclay that I can't remember the title of, but it was dealing with his transporter phobia. I'm not sure though. Anyway, thanks again for this vid! Best to you!
Didn't we see inside the teleporter beam in the transporter worms episode with Lt. Barkley?
Wasnt that TNG? When Picard was Captain of the Enterprise? In this timeline, that hasn't happened.
Appreciate you and your work! Screen Crush usually has their recaps up pretty quick but they're lagging this time around. You showed up during my search for an Easter Egg recap and I think I'll stick around for the rest of the season. Keep it up!
Didn't we see the POV of someone being transported in the TNG episode when Barclay was seeing creatures in the transporter stream?
@9:04 - I think the green serum that they used to fight the Klingons is Vulcan blood or possibly Romulan/Reman blood. Vulcan/Romulan blood is green and I think it's sort of like what happened on the show True Blood when humans consumed Vampire blood (referred to as "V").
I loved the Remans in Nemesis and I'm kind of hoping that it's Reman blood so that we'll have an excuse to see them again this season, but the more I think about it the more likely it's Vulcan blood.
1:17, wait, Star Base 1 is supposed to be at " the edge of the Sol system," and "on the edge of Klingon space"? That sure looks like it's in orbit around Jupiter, although it might just be an extra-solar gas giant. If it is Jupiter, that's well inside our solar system. I sure hope Klingon territory isn't that close.
I looked up Star Base 1 on Memory Alpha and got a lot of contradictory info (what, Star Trek light on continuity!?) At one point it said the Starbase is 100 AU from Sol. That puts it on the outskirts of the Kuiper Belt of our solar system, again awfully close for a threatening power to be.
terrific video!
You missed the homage to Nichelle which touched the heart.
Thank You,enjoyed.
It was cool as in one of the scenes there was a Disco style long haired Klingon sat at a table. Nice to see all Klingons together! The scene was the one with La'an drinking with the Klingons!
The burn did not ignote all dilithium. it was all dilithium in active warp cores. As such, the planet would be fine.
Awesome breakdown. Let the haters hate. I liked this episode.
Great review...thanks for doing a video of these things I missed. That ruby red space crystals animation was mind blowing in 4K. Gotta get me some of that green super power potion! SNW is insanely awesome...great writing, acting, brevity, and animation. Such a joy to watch...and I was around in the 1960s.
Isn't "The needs of the many" quote from A TALE OF TWO CITIES?
That was an Anti-matter detonator she pulled out.
The Gorn also appear in TAS.
Hey do you know who it was that played the Klingon captain? i thought it sounded like J.G Hertzler, who has played General Martok in DS9
I just saw the first episode of the first season. At the end they show some clips of different groups being taught about the new aliens. The very first clip the teacher with the children, Is that Robert Picardo or the Doc from Voyager in disguise. What do you think?
I'm curious if they are thinking of re doing The Menagerie.
I see nobody telling anything about the great resemble they guy drinking has with TNG's Wolf.
Is April the Enterprise’s first captain or is that Archer? Please advise
Uuuh wrath of khan was not the last time Spock was in command of the enterprise.
This was Spock's first command, not the shuttle Galileo 7 ?? WTF !
9:23 I’m guessing the formulas they injected were chemical based, not genetic. You’re not gonna augment genetics on more than a cosmetic level for anything other than dire circumstances.
The better conclusion I feel is the use of stimulants meant to enhance adrenalin, boost stamina, increase cognitive functions by forcing the brain to order a bunch of chemicals, stop producing a lot of others and basically making it so each person can lift a car for a brief period of time. Since it would be unlikely they’re actually heavy lifting, the ligaments and bones and tendons don’t snap.
I do think a scene showing how utterly draining that experience might be coulda been warranted. I’m sure there are unfortunate side effects to prolonged use.
Maybe it’s almost euphoric? Acts like a testosterone/psychotropic?
In my mind this is not a prequel but an alternate universe or timeline that is the only way it will not hurt Canon and I can enjoy it
I have to say I think they have made an effort to increase the ship shots the battle cruiser looked amazing just wish there was more standard phaser shooting but it is also in a different time frame
When I was coming up with Connections between Star Trek and Doctor Who, one of the ideas I had was that the Daleks Could have been responsible for Praxis (ua-cam.com/video/yHEyu1OG6KI/v-deo.html 22:28 mark)
Nice review Eric. I always look forward to seeing your Star Trek content.

with all the ties to future trek one might get the idea that the writers tried to strengthen an otherwise weak story. the more they tie this show to STD the weaker it makes SNW. STD is the covid of the trek universe
Regarding the Gorn. I have a theory that the Gorn we see fighting Kirk in the OS is an "elderly" Gorn. That is why he is so large and slow. Perhaps their species uses the very young and energetic "children" to be the badass fighters to take down their adversaries. They are small, agile, and ferocious and vicious killers. As they age they may become more calm and intelligent. At this stage in their lives they could be building and manning ships and be quite technological capable. As they grow older they may slow down considerably but still have a high sense of intelligence as we see in the Gorn that fought Kirk. Remember the Gorn that fought Kirk had also bee kidnapped and placed on that planet for entertainment. They could have easily just kidnapped a very old and slow Gorn!!
Spock becoming more and more emotional, puts him on track to be highly emotive as he was in the TOS first episode. He is going to have a total schism of emotions when Pike is fried...
He will go to P'Jem to have all emotions purged... just before or as Kirk becomes Captain of Enterprise... hence his TOS snd later being a cold computer chat gpt type personality.
That was Spock after Kirk he was influenced by Kirk he wasn’t that human influence till after doesn’t fit the timeline yeah I still enjoyed the episode. But not super fitting.
I was surprised at the amount of emotion Spock showed when Chapel was resued. He paid no attention to the doctor but went straight to her side. Seemed to have tears in his eyes. Does that mean we will see a further development of their relationship this season?
Why does Spock have this much emotion anyway? Did they not see the original series?
@@sharpie3811as explained by this video, and by Dr. M’Benga in the episode, Spock had to access his Vulcan emotions (which are quite volatile) to fight and survive against the Gorn attack in last season’s finale. He is still dealing with the emotions, trying to get them back into a tight Vulcan grip.
@@ninamravlja3632 I hope he does soon, because I literally don’t know how this Spock could become the one in the original series lol
Maybe I don't watch close enough......Not really sure what that woman was doing on that planet in the first place. Anyway I wasn't exactly thrilled with this ep. The whole story of "We are going to make a replica of a federation ship to start a war' was a bit far fetched. Also Spock steals an entire ship and the commander says "We'll let you get away with it this time"
They gave a reason that was pretty good for why they let him get away with it. They explained clearly why at was on the planet. You definitely didn’t watch it with your full attention.
#1 rule of start trek. Dont ever refer to the abramsverse. It never happened.
Seriously as a casually fan of Trek....non of this really fits or adds anything to TOS. Its all to advanced in terms of visuals and unnecessary in terms of back story.
A thermal detonator?! Crap-crap-crappy-crap. Bullshit-bullshit-bullshit! Sloppy, lazy writing. I was waiting for this series, I loved this series when it began but......I remembered how toxic and self-destructive the three cabrones Kutzman, Akiva and Morgan are. I knew it would only be a matter of time before they screwed this up. CBS needs to get rid of the tres cabrones and let someone like Jonathan Frakes take over like how Disney let Jon Favrou take over TV Star Wars.
To be accurate, she didn't call the explosive a thermal detonator. I don't remember the exact wording though the scene did seem to call back to Leia's bounty hunter persona in Jabba's palace.
@@vfults @7:49 In all honesty I didn't see the episode I'm going off what the narration calls it.
I really wanted to like this show but it's consistently just too stupid. It relies on nostalgia then generally does it poorly.
The whole Number One arc is an example that is completely asinine. It doesn't seem very federation like to arrest people who were genetically engineered rather than only those practicing that genetic engineering.
Technically for lying about her status rather than simply *being* modified.
@@timthompson3569 That would be terms for dismissal but imprisonment? It just seems more like some of the low quality writing this series continues to suffer from.
I'm not a big fan of Number One.....or that other girl who was also Number One for a period of time. Neither do I really like the Spock/Chapple relationship. I do like Ortega and I like the new older lady they brough in
@@larryhatcher8927 most of their treatments of existing characters are lacking but it really irritates me when they take a existing character and remake them rather than just creating a new character all together. The Chapel and M'benga characters are good examples. Neither of those are necessarily bad characters they just aren't the established characters. They could have easily made them new characters.
They also seriously do not understand Spock which is itself a tragedy.
@@willstikken5619 What they are doing with the Spock character could be better. Especially since the actor is very good. I see him as a young Nimoy
Kinda not feeling a comedian in the show. Honestly a major turn off. Breaking continuity of star trek. Honestly there a few characters that really seem more like caricatures instead of characters.
I think the new engineer is horrible. I can't even say anything more about it. I think it was a stupid idea to cast her....great actress horrible character
I agree. Hopefully, the character is replaced soon.
She sums up all thats wrong with this episode. No Pike too much star wars pew pew and so diverse the enterprise has no men aboard. Love ths show but this episode was boring
