Pretty sure Paul in this interview is where Jim Brewer developed his character from in Half Baked. His facial expressions are pretty much identical lol
I saw them on this tour, I'm from San Diego and I was living in British Columbia at the time and fIREHOSE was over an hour late for their set. Basehead and STP just played never heard of the first before, all black member métallisation music, not really a fan of STP. They were pulling folks out of the audience to come up on stage to play the band's equipment and improvise something. I my friend was pulled up to play bass. They also were given tickets to the next 2 venue stops on the tour. By the time fIREHOSE came out they were piss drunk and proceeded to play 3 Butthole Surfers songs, the Garry Shandling song (Revolution Pt. 2)for 30 minutes. Since they were so late they weren't allowed to play longer. Then the Butthole came out and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen in my life. Massive smoke, Gibby breaking bottles over his head, all the weird dental surgery videos and other random weird shit playing on the screen. So fun.
This is a historic interview in the rock/metal world for Gibby and Riki's short, but spot on comment about STP at the time. It caused major problems for the show from STP's label. I think Riki had to apologize or have them on the show to perform because of it. Either way, it was the start of the clone bands and left over pop metal bands when the genre was obviously going in a different direction. Which Riki and the Ball was one of the most important and influential supporters of.
It was Scott who caused major problems he refused to do any interview with MTV and rikki had to apologies and kiss his ass and I think there unplugged performance was before this. I think not a 100% sure
I dont think Butthole Surfers had any business being on this show. I think they knew it too which is why the interview is awkward. They were only on I think because Who Was in My Room Last Night? was kinda heavy I guess even though they werent a metal band. They obviously fit more on 120 Minutes.
Wow times change, I remember first Lollapalooza my friend had one of his nipples pierced, was hot out so we had our shirts off. Everyone stopped to look and comment how crazy it was, as we were in the parking lot getting fucked up he was taking a leak next to our car, somebody again commented on his nipple ring, he's like "Oh yeah, check this out!" And taps his prick piercing against the car fender, holy shit everyone thought it was so wild!
I saw this tour at Castaic Lake and it was completely nuts . A girl got her arm broken and Someone threw a beer bottle at Wieland and broke his tooth off
Stone Temple Pilots first video.....Alice In Chains like 2nd video.....Soundgarden like 3rd Video....Pearl Jam like Who does that band remind you of? Who doesn't that band remind you of! Actual wit from Rikki???
Host - "Is your fan base growing?"
Gibby -- *sighs* "I have no idea."
I love this guy😂🎉

When were they not?
@@evanwright9016Well, you can only trip on LSD about once a week, so not that often.

This is by FAR one of their more put together interview performances. Paul isn't noticeably on acid in this one. Others....he is.

How was Paul Leary’s guitar playing live? Did it sound pretty cool?
@@jacobsamano9761 is that even a real question.. Paul Leary is always dangerous w/ the guitar live 🤘

Yet Paul played on their second album Purple.
'we certainly appreciate it, Riki'
Gibby for President!!😂😂
Gibby'd probably be a better bet than those other two fuckwits you have over there in the US - Biden or Trump. ffs
