Hillary Clinton gave us Trump, no so much Obama although he exacerbated the problems. The "recovery" such as it was, only reached the top earners. What was left were a lot of low-paying jobs for the rest.
If Obama did a good job.. Democrats would have held office for a decade. He did the same shit.. People are making less today on average then they did before he took office.. And they lost their house. Obama hollowed out the democratic party and gave the houses to the Republicans with no strong push against.. He never used the bully pulpit once to rally support for a democrat or expanded the party into the south where he was actually strong. Obama gave the race to the Republicans. Hillary was gonna run anyway. That was a constant. Every vote Americans have had in the 2000's they have voted for "Change" whatever candidate offered that.
+DootDoot Hillary cheated her way into the Democratic nomination and she is as disliked as Trump. Had Bernie been the Democratic candidate, he would have beaten Trump easily.
"Each American does better when all Americans do better." Wow, catching slogan. Too bad for the Democrats that Bernie Sanders is the only one in Washington who did see those words as a ruse.
Thomas Frank, speaking truth to power again... President Obama's shortcomings hurt more than anything... I am doing my best coming to terms with Pres. Obama's rule... Tough.
What is really funny about all this is many of my friends will completly go into denial and make every damn excuse they can make up to not have to face the truth about the sham this party has become! I talk to some until I am blue in the face and get nowhere even when the FACTS are right there!
Hello. Is it possible, in the future, when creating multi-part content on youTube, to include a list of links to the other sections? Perhaps leave this in the description. I am a subscriber would like to watch, for example, every section of the Thomas Frank interview in its entirety. Thanks and keep up the good work. Happy holidays.
The first 5 parts of the Thomas Frank interview are from months ago. You should be able to find them all if you put Thomas Frank and the Real News in the YT search box. I don't think part 7 is up yet.

Thomas Frank is really great. I think in more recent interviews he is showing some real frustration with politics and especially the Democratic party. Plus, there is now some clown with the same name as Thomas Frank that makes it harder to find videos related to Thomas Frank like this one.
Why would you think he was gonna be like FDR? He NEVER indicated this. He is a master at placating the disenfranchised. Always has been. He and his family will be rich for the rest of their lives. They started out with very little materially.
There was quote that Obama had said "the fact of the matter is that my policies are so mainstream that if i said the same policies back in the 1980's i would be considered a moderate republican".
You know, I've always had my reservations about Thomas Frank. And as soon as he started talking about Clinton being in office, as a good thing, I stopped listening. He has confirmed my suspicions as being a faux progressive and a neoliberal sheepdog.
LOL, i just stopped the video at the exact same time you're referring to! Just scrolled down to read some comments and glad to see a similar sentiment!
You're not smart enough to understand the point that Frank was making. He was saying that if Obama had been a genuine progressive, he would have been so popular that Hillary Clinton would have been elected easily, and he was clearly talking about a world in which she would have also followed progressive policies. If you had kept listening you'd have heard Frank say that Bill Clinton did more to dismantle the New Deal than Reagan or either Bush.
This interview "convinced" you Thomas Frank is a neoliberal sheepdog? You actually said "confirmed my suspicions" but there's nothing he's written that would "confirm" (perhaps you needed Thomas to go on a Alex Jones spittle rant to match your disdain the Clintons?)
At the moment - 3 thumbs down... Have to be Hillbots. Even cretin Roy Moore can appreciate this video. Only a Hillbot would think this unfair somehow. Thank you Thomas Frank!
Don't get me wrong, I've loved Thomas Frank since The Baffler. However, I don't understand how he can argue that the Republicans are "exceptionally good" at playing the political game. The Republicans did everything they could think of to lose. They actually thought Jeb! had a chance, threw $$ at him, championed him. This miscalculation could have cost them everything. Even long after it became clear they only had one candidate who stood a chance to win, they did everything in their power to undermine him. Not only did Donald Trump not have the GOP's backing, there was even a group of Republicans who called themselves "Never Trumpers." What a bunch of fools. If they won, it's thanks to Donald Trump who accomplished something that would have been impossible for Rubio, Kasich et al.
He said that we would be in a Hillary term and going into another. Does he not realize she was the most hated candidate at the time? I guess he is a soft shoe hillbot
PPL were rejecting Obama If Obama was just marginal(he was the worst Pres.) crooked Hillary would be Pres.Obama was prepare to out source more job. TPP
Blackatchaproduction no. He said if Obama came in and ran FDR policies and broke up the banks.. Hillary would have had two terms they would have been so popular.like the New deal did for the democrats before.. specially with how un popular Bush was. Listen to his argument.
02:57 No, 2008 was nothing like 1932. 2008 was like 1929, when the markets crashed. What happened after 1929, was that the DOW recovered, then went on a 2 year bear market from '30-'32, losing 90% of it's value (the equivalent of today's DOW crashing from 23,000 to 11,000 in 2005, recovering and going from a 23,000 high to 2,300 from 2006 to 2008) and THAT was when FDR was elected. People in 2008 had not gone through the trauma of a 2 year bear market. If they had, they would have demanded that things were done very differently from before. Instead, the market just recovered, and sailed ahead.
keep on looking for a way out that doesn't involve armed resistance. good luck, but i am doubtful you will find it before people like me have been dragged away. you are like a proverbial frog in the slowing heating water. by the time it is too hot FOR YOU, you won't be able to get out.
19:00 I haven't finished the video, so I dont know your guys' take. But I can only interpret this as an honest coward or an evil actor. I feel I am giving Obama the benefit of the doubt by calling him a coward, one given to diminish in his own shadow.
Thomas Frank is no slouch but, rather, a great guy, but, as Paul Jay kept owning him for his naïveté, I just really wanted to see Tom hear “Listen Liberal” turned back at him. 🤘🏻
Disappointing interview as usual Thomas Frank laughing at his own jokes and providing nothing to substantiate his points...just when he starts to sound though he's getting specific with examples he digresses into something else. Gives the impression he's either forgotten the research to his own book or didn't write it. One comes off not feeling having learned anything new or insightful. The dead giveaway is when Jay corrects him by providing crucial caveats to his own points which he then backs and accepts hoping thereby contradicting everything he just said. I don't know why TRNN keep calling him back for a generalised discussion & wish instead they would put him on the spot to take apart an issue in detail.
This is just so tragic. We have to change this.
Don't forget about the telecommunications bill, which allowed for the 51 communications companies to now be down to 6.
Thank you Monica.

Thomas Sowell: "Obama: worst president in U.S history
"Bill Clinton's fidelity...to the banks" hehehe
Thomas Frank for President.
I remember that Cooper Union speech, Wall Street HATED it.. I remember that very well..like HATED..
Thomas Frank Is A Truth Teller
And he says it is a very direct and rational way without a hint of bile.
Nah. It’s his job to make you think that.
I FREAKING LOVE THIS MAN!!!!!
"Each American does better when all Americans do better." Wow, catching slogan. Too bad for the Democrats that Bernie Sanders is the only one in Washington who did see those words as a ruse.
He's repeating Jimmy Dore talking points.... and I love it. Glad to see Thomas becoming more progressive.
Right, it's Thomas Frank who haslearned from Dore. 👌
Excellent observation.
Thomas Frank, speaking truth to power again... President Obama's shortcomings hurt more than anything... I am doing my best coming to terms with Pres. Obama's rule... Tough.
why have only 1k people seen this? frank is brilliant, there should be 10 million views

perfect.
I see but a few politicians who work in the nations (the peoples') interest. The presidents presented in this discussion are not among those few..
Damn, Thomas Frank sounds like the HardBastard !

Because Obama knew what he was doing, I dislike him more than Bush or even Trump.

There was quote that Obama had said "the fact of the matter is that my policies are so mainstream that if i said the same policies back in the 1980's i would be considered a moderate republican".
The balanced budget under Clinton caused private sector debt to soar and laid the groundwork for both the 2001 recession and the 2008 GFC.
Edward Siegel Exactly!
You are correct Edward but few news media would report that because of their bias.
Let's waste eight more years believing in the lesser evil psychology
You know, I've always had my reservations about Thomas Frank. And as soon as he started talking about Clinton being in office, as a good thing, I stopped listening. He has confirmed my suspicions as being a faux progressive and a neoliberal sheepdog.

Context? Did you understand the point he was making around this?
This interview "convinced" you Thomas Frank is a neoliberal sheepdog?
You actually said "confirmed my suspicions" but there's nothing he's written that would "confirm"
(perhaps you needed Thomas to go on a Alex Jones spittle rant to match your disdain the Clintons?)
Shoulda looked at his voting record in Congress.
Is 2017/18 not 1932 now?
It still reads as 6/7. Please change that. TIA
Instead of voting for the democratic party people vote for Wallstreet.
At the moment - 3 thumbs down... Have to be Hillbots. Even cretin Roy Moore can appreciate this video. Only a Hillbot would think this unfair somehow. Thank you Thomas Frank!
Trump used his style "change is coming" right from the Obama camp.

Yes, FDR saved capitialism not the people. /
Paul's clearly had enough of this dudes shit lol

Paul, Looks like you make Thomas Frank very nervous speaking and telling the truth about Hillarys corruption.
???....Frank is no Clinton fan.
Thanks for all your great material your producing. It is suddle, intelligent and quit. Startet donating monthly yesterday.

I strongly disagree there, I think Obama never had any intention of anything Bernie-esque. I think he achieved basically what he wanted to achieve.
Sad to hear such drivel coming out of Thomas Frank's mouth.
Thomas Frank doesn't seem all that smart. Bush's son was very involved with savings and loan debacle. NAFTA was Good? Unions bad?
Karen Hodges what? Did you watch the same video I did?
Karen Hodges, you're apparently not smart enough to understand what Thomas Frank said.
You have a bad comprehension problem.
