Thank you for sharing an overview of this incredible exhibit. What most people don’t know, is that in the motion picture industry, there are storyboards to illustrate each and every scene to graph & document the exact position & perspective the director / wants for each camera shot. Those were very similar to the illustrative type story telling we see from these Japanese artists who have mastered dynamic line drawing for story telling. Quite amazing !! Thank you for hosting this exhibit. 🤩
I saw a bunch of snobby comments on the previous manga video, and I was very disappointed. There is a certain type of barely-educated adult who thinks they are the harbingers of knowledge even though they barely made it through school. I wrote a paper in my art history class about the American tv series "Batman" (with Adam West) and how the Pop Art movement influenced the design of the show. Just because art is highly accessible to the public doesn't mean it's not an academic subject worth academic review. Don't be a snob. It just makes you look like an idiot.
@gabriel anderson What has gatekeeping got to do with the fella's comment? There's nothing wrong with being elitist about your hobby, keeps the casuals that are not really interested away.
@gabriel anderson Yeah, so? As I said elitism is good for a hobby. People who don't put effort into it aren't really interested. Every hobby that openly accepts people that don't put any effort into it are destroyed.
@@golDroger88 Because if they'd been educated, they'd know how to approach a science or an art academically, with rational thought processes instead of emotional opinions based on nothing factual.
This is really interesting. Most people associate manga with stereotypical otaku culture but don't see the historical and artistic value of these works.
I saw the exhibition on the last day. It was very late on the 25th and I realized I still had not visited and that the 26th was going to be the very last day. I ended up taking a few energy drinks and spending 2 hours on the train into London to see it. I'm very glad I visited even though I was exhausted from lack of sleep afterwards. x( I certainly hope that there will be another exhibition like it in the future.
@@martinrandall5836 Thanks :) I know there's videos that will be released on it, but I actually want to go to the exhibit. But the videos will have to do!
@@novafawks - The exhibit is sponsored by Citi so it could end up coming to the USA. You may have to join an email list to get info? I'm in the UK and will be there on the 21st.
Her enthusiasm for the artform is wonderful
I completely agree with you. I'd watch a show with her as the presenter. Plus, I'd watch almost any art history show with anyone presenting.
Takehiko Inoue's work is visually stunning. I was so pleased to see Vagabond.

This was a very enjoyable watch. She is so incredibly passionate about manga, and it shows.

I loved the way she explained manga and the art design and why it is the way it is.

@@Sunshine-zm1fx Approaching a work of art only rationally and not emotionally is already a failure from the start as an approach.

Vagabond is truly a masterpiece
I better see my man Hirohiko Araki...
As the first manga artist to be featured at the Louvre, it'd be a bit of a shame if he weren't mentioned.
They mentioned they can't get all the manga art they wanted, because they only had very limited space.
This is a great series, thank you British Museum!
When I went to this exhibition I was really inspired by visual narratives and started to do them myself. It’s really tough.
Nobody has commented on that necklace though?!?!
no way they had original toriyama stuff there.. I've always wanted to see one. There are only low res pics on the internet of his originals.
This was amazing! Going to check out the series right away!
why they cant have more exhibitions?
I wish I could have seen this exhibit.
I wonder if the exhibition features any of ONEs original works. It look so rough in comparison, but I feel like that roughness adds to the story
this is so awesome! I wish we had an exhibition like this in the US.
This is incredible.
Who knew you could turn being a weeb into a job at a museum.
Junji ito im sure has to be there somewhere
Well this is wonderful
I really like the One Punch Man TV series. It would be nice to see the original drawings.
Great

Gou Tanabe?
Drat me being in the U.S.A.
Hey this was the third comment complaining about being in the U.S.
If the Met did an equivalent for Marvel comics you would likely get Japanese people saying the same!
The US gets so much better shit than what’s here in the UK...
@@peco3806 Exactly, they get like AnimeExpo and so many other cons. Heck, most English-language publishers are American-based.
I love what you guys are doing! However that slow focus at 0:55 was the worst I have ever seen lol
Congratulations...
You made comics pretentious.
It's a little sad
That it has to be explained.
When it purely should be enjoyed.
Do you understand what "learning" is?
Every art form can be studied.
