It's always down to preference. I've always driven manuals but have no problems with autos and those that drive automatics.
Interesting video and I'll admit I know nothing of autos except for your videos on Beatrix and Ruby. I've never driven a auto either.

I'm a fan of both manual and auto transmissions. The 6 speed manual in my ST170 suits it very well and is great when you are out on a back road blast but I also love the torque converter Auto in my '92 Mercedes W124 300E-24. It only has 4 gears but in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th it locks the converter once you are above 1500 RPM. Make it very smooth about town but if you use the manual shift function with the gearlever you can still make full use of engine braking when out for a blast. For those interrested in CTX 'boxes here's an overview of how they worked in older Ford's.

The lock-up function really does make a difference in economy on a long-run! That video on the CTX is a great intro for anyone who doesn't know how they function!

Very interesting video, have never owned an automated manual but the other ones I have. Owned 2 90’s fords with cvt an escort and fiesta and didn’t like the engine screaming with hard acceleration. 2 dsg a Seat and Audi, agree fast up shift but sometimes they couldn’t make up there minds on the downshift. In heavy traffic used to go into manual mode and keep in first gear for crawling to save clutch wear. But my first love is the old slushmatic of which I must have had about a dozen being fords and Vauxhalls. At the moment a Vauxhall Mokka 1.7 diesel that I like with the automatic transmission

That is an interesting selection of automatics! The slushmatic is the most reliable and in the long is the bet to have. The others are better but not as reliable in the long-run.

I don't know if it is same powershift, but I seen in USA there is models with PRND switch (like automatic), but that is just manual with solenoid clutch, I seen it in ford. In general as manual owner I don't mind automatics, but personally I don't like them. I like feel car and decide when I want change or not. What I don't like about automatics is how people behave. Yes, with auto you can creep, that nice, because I cant speed match with my manual in first gear without accelerator. What annoy me is when they creep with brakes, that means I need play with clutch all time slip it or gear in and gear out..

With Diesels just lifting off the clutch with no gas is what I've done a lot, your not supposed to for the clutch longevity but you can get a nice creep with a manual.
