The algorithm is going crazy, I was JUST looking at this case on amazon! Fan noise was going to be the biggest "if" for me with this case, so I'm glad I got to see some real-world experiences with it.
I noticed you mentioned the front USB port having no cable. I just put together a build in this case and found that they hid the USB cable among the rest of the front panel headers. It's only a 4 pin cable, not a 9 pin like most USB headers are, but since it's only a single port, it makes sense.
Ive NEVER believed in "hot swap" per se... i think powering off the device and then changing out equipment and repowering it is the best alternative. That's why you have desk shelves you can take a shelf offline do what you need to and then put it back online. Yeah perhaps you can pull a drive and plug it back in, and it will work just fine, and I've done it a hundred times but I still like to safely shut down do the device and power it backup when work is complete.
I agree 100%, I do not Hot swap drives, I will always power down, honestly not worth it. But really nice to swap or add drives without pulling a server out.
this was a decent review - plus for using word yada, i really think your mission if you choose to accept it is to home in on building ultimate trunas (meaning 2) - yes 2 nas because everybody needs mission critical 5 nines and they really need fast network (they meaning smb sector and creators/homelabbers) for network i think going with dual port 40g makes a ton of sense - dual port 40gbe cards on ebay are 40-50 bucks - one hitch is you need to get 56g connect-x cards and transceivers to do 40g over cat 8 but otherwise nothing else is needed - connect to dual nas from your ws with no switch and nas can also direct connect to each other for fast sync. for the trunas particulars you need lots of ram - like 256gb so going with an older platform may well be the way to to esp since you will want dual nas eventually - 256gb ddr3 ecc can be had for ultra cheap now - you also want good caching so nvme for zil and zlog and then probably all ssd arrays for storage or maybe a mix - 6 ssd and 6 sata each in its own array since you want to match up well for the 40g speeds - the large ram and nvme cache may well be able to ameliorate - you may want 10 or 12 sata hd....but anyways this is what i hope you do - network is the weakest link for nas followed by weak cache implementations and too little ram - if you can solve these issues you may be able to build a 'better' nas and even sell them - don't be afraid to ask for sales and try to take the flat rate profit
It is a SAS backplane, SAS is compatible with SATA drives, but you can't use SAS drives on a SATA backplane. So Either SAS or SATA drives will work with this chassis.
@@CreatorHardware Thanks for the review. Do you know if the backplane will work with an HBA card or we must use their included cables and plug into a motherboard? I normally wouldn't question that but at this price point better be sure...

glad I had good timing with this video!

What do you think of a Sliger CX3701 as a compromise?

I would love to build that set up!
Anyone know where u can still get this shows unavailable on amazon
this one is close to the Rack choice model, but like you I cannot find it anywhere else either

thx for the helpful review!
Maybe one of the mini SAS to SATA is a gift? Or maybe you can fit 4 more drives in there and use that cable too?
free stuff is free stuff🤣
Do you know of a better quality version of this 12 bay rack mount case?
Not at that price point but if money is no issues shop.in-win.com/products/rs212-02m
Where did you buy this from
Amazon, link in the description
are they 80mm fans
40mm
So is the backplan sata or sas? I see it comes with sas to sata breakout, so does that mean its a sata backplane?

@@CreatorHardware excellent! thanks for the quick response. I have more sas drives than Sata, and most consumer backplanes are SATA.
