    How did you take account of the ability to float? How did you measure out that it could take 2 people? Sorry for the bad English, I’m Dutch:) nice build by the way!

    • @TimWestonboats
      @TimWestonboats  6 років тому +4

      Hi Luckym0nk3y. I designed it with Delftship. (it's free). I wrote all about it in my newly (yesterday) published book "Small Boat Building" - www.amazon.com/dp/B07HLKZ8LQ The book is full of info on how I build this boat and wooden boats in general including a look at how you can design your own boat. The program gives you all the floatation data. Regards Tim

    A very unique designed hull. Seeing all the photos makes us appreciate the complexes you had in the build. Great video, thanks for sharing. Added: not every day we get to see a man walk his boat to the water.

    Looks like a great design for a water cooled motorcycle motor with an inboard layout. Motor towards bow for simplicity in shaft and seal layout. Looks like it rides great too.

    • @TimWestonboats
      @TimWestonboats  8 років тому

      +piltdowne mann. That could be an interesting layout. The original hull with the deep centre section would work well with a shaft drive..

    I live in Caifornia and have been researching boats as i want to own one in a few years. Never thought to build one. I realize that a lot of boats are made from plywood and work fantastic. Have you considered makig one that is a little bigger? I think you would have a blast with a 3.5 meter boat.

    • @TimWestonboats
      @TimWestonboats  7 років тому

      Hi Mike. Thanks for your comment. Yes, plywood boats are great. I love working with ply I think it is a much overlooked material. Cheap, strong, rigid and easy to work with. Actually I have plans to build 3 boats in ply including this one - 3.4m long. If you are interested you can find more information here timwestonboats.com/plans/ Cheers Tim

    • @TimWestonboats
      @TimWestonboats  8 років тому

      Hello Jay. Thank you. I used the CAD program delft ship to design the boat. www.delftship.net , It's free to download and use. It generates a plate layout that you can use to trace out the shape on ply and cut the panels. You can build it without a computer too, by bending the wood together and tracing and cutting. I did this on boats before, but it's a lot nicer and quicker when you can cut panels and they just fit together, perfect. Once I get organised I will have ebook with a lot more detail on the process. I will also have plans available soon for the boat too. Tim

    would it be possible to build a boat with a flat floor inside? I want to take my dog with me but i am worried that he might capsize the boat if he cant stand on anything flat. My dog is a 35kg american staffy

    • @TimWestonboats
      @TimWestonboats  4 роки тому

      Hi, Bex. That's a big dog... The floor needs the shape for stiffness, so extra framing is not needed. I'm sure it wouldn't worry the dog. And, even his weight shouldn't be enough to capsize, unless you are both leaning out of the boat;) Tim

    Nice build, a quick question though.
    I've never built anything using epoxy but I understood that without a topcoat/gel coat or whatever it had no protection against UV rays and would quickly break down??
    Has this been your experience?

    • @TimWestonboats
      @TimWestonboats  6 років тому +1

      Hi Jeremy. Good question, yes it will break down, but you have plenty of time before you need to paint/varnish it. I have just published a building guide that tells you all about it in more detail. You can download it from here. timwestonboats.com/building-guide-2/ It's free. Regards Tim

    How much epoxy did you end up using building this boat? As many boats as I've fixed up I kinda want to build my own now.

    • @TimWestonboats
      @TimWestonboats  8 років тому

      +Brantley Boyd Hi Brantley. I don't remember exactly, but I think it was around 5 to 10 litres max. Probably closer to 5lt. Yes, their is something very satisfying about building a boat yourself. It's only some sheets of plywood in the beginning. In the end you have a vehicle to moves and has behaviour and it's own character.

    • @BrantleyBoyd
      @BrantleyBoyd 8 років тому

      I'm starting to want to build a little mini max hydro plane after doing some research on them. Between work and school I don't have a lot of free time right now or money but I can build a mini max out of two sheets of ply and some other wood I have laying around and I still have a good bit of fiberglass mat and cloth laying around from my last project.

      Thanks. I'm not up with current prices but the more you buy the better the price/litre. Try to find the big industrial/marine suppliers if they are close. They have better prices than the local chandlers.
