Rollers everytime! I worked on RR B757s daily. Gave me such a sense of pride that even the giant Boeing had to turn to a British engine to launch the 757, because the Americans had nothing to do the job. Don't believe me? Look it up. That girl used to climb like a homesick angel when she had Rollers under the wing because she had so much power! P&W envied the RB211 so much, they even tried to copy the buzzsaw 😜 I have to hand it to the Americans - the 757 was the best dream machine to work on - strong and reliable and tough as old boots! I miss that old girl 🥺
Love the climb out buzz saw sound. Nothing like it. As a flight attendant and sitting at the 2L door for takeoff is such a natural "high" how I miss that! After the reduction of climb power all the passangers would quickly look at me. Guess they thought the engines stopped! 😆
I am an aircrfat engineer and was involved with the VC10 Flying test bed! They removed 2 of the Conways from the port side and modified the stub with to take the brand new development RB 2-11. After tests were compete the aircraft had to be scrapped as it was discovered the single RB 211 had TWISTED the airframe as it pushed out more power than TWO Conways! Rolls Rpyce simply make the most safe and reliable jet engines on the world today - I always try to fly on an aircraft fitted with RR NOT GE or PW.
@@bigsebby3799 Kind of but basucally anything widebody (i.e 747, L-1011) that has RB211s have the bigger & more powerful variant. The RB211-534G/H. What I mean here is the RB211-535 which powers the 'large' narrowbodies (757, Tu-204)
The P&W sounds brilliant in this clip. For me personally, nothing will ever beat the growl of a triple spool Royce RB211 at high output :-) On the 747-400, the reliable RB211-524G/H variants output just over 60,000 lb of peak thrust each, conferring nearly a quarter-million pounds of combined thrust--giving the 875,000 lb MGTOW airplane excellent performance (over 5000 feet/min of climb rate at sea-level :-) ).
Honestly between these two engines, I have to call a tie. They are both awesome and high-power engines. But not only that, they both have a very distinctive sound to them, which makes them so unique.
RB211 gives you a more metallic and clean roar but it does sometimes dims itself. I personally like the PW engines more because it’s roar is more kind of cleaner than the RB211 but both are just great, with this amazing 757
I have to agree that the RB-211s sound a lot better (has newer technology in the fan blades like I've seen some other comments mention) but I just prefer the look of the PWs. I don't like how long the RB-211s look because the 757 is already a long plane, and doesn't need long engines too 😅 I'll be flying on my first ever 757 with Delta next month!
The RB211 just has such an epic, suspenseful spool-up and it also seems like there's more roar than the PW2000. The PW also doesn't have the most exciting spool-up though both are great engines!
RB211s any day. Everything about it is utter perfection. Some say it doesn’t look in proportion but I think it’s the other way round. Sorry PW but you’ve been absolutely destroyed.
I have flown both engines on the 757-200 and -300. The RR is a very old design and is heavier. The PW has a better EEC and is more fuel efficient. I like both on the 757 but I prefer the PW engines. The PW thrust reversers are 100% more effective. If I were limited to only one type I would take the PW. Boeing screwed up by not updating the 757. The NG 737 is a disappointment from the pilots POV. Old pilots don't want to fly it because they got spoiled by the 757!
The Rolls is a far superior engine. Rolls invented and patented the wide chord fan blade. The PW was stuck using first generation horrifically designed “Narrow chord” blades. There’s 36 blades on the 42,000 lb thrust PW and only 24 on the 43,000 lb thrust Rolls. Every engine builder uses the "Rolls invented" wide chord blades now that the patent has expired. That's what you call innovation! Go Rolls!
Rolls royce all the way for Boeing and Airbus. I actually love rolls royce first, second PW, third GE. But not the trent 7000 or the GENX 747. I wish if rolls royce have got a chance with the 747-8
I'll take the Rolls engines. The P&W's are WAY too loud and obnoxious sounding. And their loud tone drops VERY noticeably it it's sound once the aircraft levels up too a cruising altitude. I don't find that the Rolls engines are anywhere near as loud.
holy shit that was a long takeoff roll on 1'st clip. They had less than 1000 feet of runway left on rotation as the 1000 foot mark went by. They didn't even have enough room for RTO
If you like the thrill of a roller coaster, the RB211 is probably for you. If you're the type to want to take a nap on the plane without the engine keeping you awake, P&W is for you.
The PW2037's are horrible engines because they literally do not want to stay on the wing. The PW2037's are notorious for having cracks along the mounting points and are an absolute nightmare for 757 mechanics. And as for the efficiency PW actually paid airlines to cover the difference between the promise and the actual performance. So I personally think that the RB211 is much better for the 757. Also, PW037's are very hard to start when it is cold.
This was meant to be more of a sound comparison, but wow I never knew what PW2000 was like from a mechanic’s point of view. Personally I’ve always felt that the RB211 suits the 757 more than the Pratt’s.
❤ PW. sound, but RB wins by a tiny margin. because ROLLS royce delivers all the rumbling noise, and doesn't try to hide it or hold back any. PW is also nice, funny how I'm reminded of 1960s batman tv show Batmobile with PW 2000.
RB211 those engines they sound old and I like it why because think of an old muscle car compare that sound for the engine compared to know days engines

Which engine can fly the old girl farther? And which is more powerful?
The RB211 is the definite winner here! The amazing spool up and "buzzsaw" sound it produces as it spools up to takeoff thrust!
Love the climb out buzz saw sound. Nothing like it. As a flight attendant and sitting at the 2L door for takeoff is such a natural "high" how I miss that! After the reduction of climb power all the passangers would quickly look at me. Guess they thought the engines stopped! 😆
RR for life! WHAT A SOUND!!
PW on 757 = CFM on A320 family
RR on 757 = IAE on A320 family
Personally I like the PW2000. But the RB211 is definitely a awesome engine.
Respectable choice! While my fav is RB211, PW2000 packs a punch as well!
PW2000 has prehistoric narrow chord fan blades. Not good at all. Very poor design!!!
The opposite for me but I respect your choice!!
@@ALV-gs1xg Not really. It works very well, there's a reason Boeing chose it for the 757 as well. Good engine.
@@noahjarbo3275 There's nothing good about narrow chord fans. That's why every manufacturer in the world now uses Rolls' invention!
RB211 even from startup.. really great sound

Damn can’t decide.. either way the 757 is a badass aircraft... I wonder what one with GE CF6s would have sounded like!
Most likely, a 767-200
CF6 would be too large for the 75
GE and PW couldn’t use wide chord fans. Rolls had the patent!
@@josefsstationrc6064 probably ends up pushing the 757 to supersonic speed
I love the look of the PW but I just love the sound of the RR ☺️
Look at the front fan on the PW and you'll see what a terrible front fan it is!
@@ALV-gs1xg just respect peoples opinion
@@singaporetraincam289He didn't say anything wrong or derogatory, was just commenting on the fan design.
The sound of RB211 at 1:15 reminds me of my 2000 air conditioner which it sounds relaxing.
lol comment of the day! it does sound an air conditioner
Both are amazing but I just love the 757! However, I probably would lean more towards the RB-211
The spool up noise on the RB211 gets me every time. fantastic engine.
Thanks for a very informative video! This is the first I heard about the RB211s incredible on-wing lifespan and its hollow blades!
i love that buzzsaw sound ahhh music to my ears ❤❤ i would have to go with RR RB211
I like th PW2000! Awesome look and sound!

It will always be the RB211 for me..no other compares to the screaming spool-up of that engine
Rb211 any day. My grandad used to make parts for them
No competition here the RB211s win every day British Engineering at its best
Also love deep tone on start up
was passenger on 757-200
jumbo engines on narrow body 757 made it a rocket ship
I really can't choose with this one. They both sound amazing.
RB211 for sound and reliability. Insane powerplant
I would say the PW2000 is underpowered slightly but it sounds so cool
the PW2000 is just a
bigger version than
the CFM56-5B, and
the V2500 is a
smaller version
of the RB211
______________________
*_CHANGE MY MIND_*
Well, the PW2000 does sound similar to the CFM56-5, and the RB211-535E4 does sound similar to the IAE V2500.
The RB211 sounds like a flat-plane crank (Ferrari) V8, and the the PW2000 sounds like a small block cross-plane crank V8
The Rolls is a far superior engine. Rolls invented and patented the wide chord fan blade. The PW was stuck using first generation horrifically designed “Narrow chord” blades. I love the Rb211, but... You can hear those growling pw2000s from 3 miles away!!!
Both have amazing sounds, but im partial to the P&W, has a more deeper sound
Gotta go with Pratts on this one. They spool quieter from a lower, darker place up to a screaming buzz saw.
RB211!!!
They all sound good
No spiral on the RB211? How are ground crew going to know that they are running?
@John O'Brien Haha I was gonna say the same joke
well i’m sure they can hear the RBs

Nope, the RB211 is my favorite and will always stay my favorite.
Wtf this sound so good!
I don't hear the drop on the pw2000. Are you sure you didn't confuse that with the pw4000 found on some 777s?
You can hear the "drop spool" at 1:56.
I like the GE9x
