It's April 2024. This came to my mind yesterday. My mother could sing this song so beautifully. She'd be cooking and singing. It's a beautiful memory of her. She often sang her prayers to God. It seemed like she put her whole soul into those songs. This was one of her favorites.
Are there people who STILL understand this? If not this should be for everybody🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯💯🤭😶when songs were like this I remember my great grandmother got so happy and cried for so long, I didn't have that kind of understanding but I thank God I do NOW. Hallelujah 💯
bkeys08 it brings back Sunday mornings in Waynesboro Mississippi getting ready for Sunday school, my mother homemade biscuits and daddy calling out “ get up” time to get ready for Sunday school and church🥰 oh how I miss them 😞😭😭😭
It's 4.19.23 and this song came to mind as I was unlocking the door to the office. I am grateful to God for giving me health and strength and I'm glad about it. Love gospel 🎶 🎵
Your lucky. I was saved at a young age but didn't discover these raw songs of praise until later in life. Now, I enjoy listening and feeding my soul every morning with something in this genre along with my coffee. No matter how I am feeling it helps to get my day off on the good foot.
Today is 8 19 2023 and this song was in my mind this morning. Dear Lord thank you for another Day's Journey, thank you for your mercy and Grace that are new Every Morning amen
This song took me back to my youth at my home church Riverside Baptist Church. The Senior Choir would sing this song often. I still think about that time and what a blessing it was.
This music was the bread and butter in my household as a child. I was exposed to this wonderful music from a toddler on up and it brings back so many fond memories.
I love this song. My mom bought the album when it first came out, and it is one of my most cherished possessions. I can't listen to this song without crying tears of joy.
I'm here in 2019 I'm glad about it thank you Lord please whisper to this world righteousness and to humble themselves and to turn away from evil and be glad you will always sit on the throne
@3586065 The guy that takes over on the second lead of that song was Jimmy Jones. He was so powerful and died at an early age of cancer. I saw him perform back in the day with the Clouds in my area of Greenville South Carolina and I shall never forget him. Jimmy had a beautiful spirit about him and oh my Lord could that young man sing. You should hear him on When The Gates Swing Open, What A Friend, etc....he would mostly come in on the second lead after Joe. He and Joe made a great team
Im glad about it thank you Jesus please show the world how to be glad about yoh how to rejoice. Please Lord help us lord teach us lord to humble ourselves plezse show my children how to obey you and to be glad thank you Lord we are glad you hear our cries and prayers thank you im glaf about it Amen
SHELIA LEWIS ...I remember your father, and I was upset he was not mentioned as one of the originals. Leon Polk was mentioned. So glad to come across this comment. Praying all is well with you. Is your father still living?
People in night clubs need Jesus too! I've seen the Clouds and Jie Ligon sing live many times, I don't know whether they sang in a nightclub or not. If they were this great an anointed group of men were certainly singing praises to God, and surely gained a few souls for The Lord.
Jimmy Jones, his real name is Jonny jones. & He song with the Clouds during the 70's & song live on this record. His mom & my grandma are sisters. He's my dad First Cousin & he Use to sing at our homecoming back in the day b4 I was born. Yes he died of throat cancer at an early age. my dad has many good story's bout him sing.
K bishop I wonder if we ever ran across one another when we were kids, my dad managed The Doves of the South Waynesboro Mississippi bout 84 miles , 84 East of Mobile, Alabama and my dad and mother knew The Mighty Clouds of Joy personally🥰🙏🏾🥰
Man, this stuff right here, is THE way you sing good gospel! This group was my second favorite group growing up, behind the Sensational Nightingales. My sister and I used to listen to this song, Bright Side, I've Been In The Storm Too Long etc. almost everyday. We loved these songs. We were young kids back in the 70's when we were listening to The Clouds, but I STILL love these old OLDIE BUT GOODIES! Thanks for posting this, takes me back to my childhood!
They were nothing but the truth when it came to gospel music, they called it "spirituals" and the neighbors used to say they were going to the "sanging.". The clouds, the violinaires, Brooklyn All-stars, soul stirrers, the caravans, the hummingbirds, Jackson southernaires', the sensational nightingales, James Cleveland, the list was endless. There is decent music today but not a lot of spirituality. It's like people in the 60's who grabbed you when they saw you vs people in 2021who just stare, that part.
If you knew anything about Joe Ligon, he'd tell you that he wouldn't be caught dead in a nightclub. It was definitely at the Music Hall in Houston, which, by the way, was the home base of their record label at that time, Peacock Records.
I beg to differ. That second lead / shared lead, was done by the late Jimmy Jones. He had an awesome talent and was taken from us way too soon. But God makes no mistakes. R.I.P. Jimmy.
***** So glad to have received your reply. WOW! You actually knew Jimmy. I met in once here in Greenville, SC at a concert. My cousin was with me (Ill never forget this)...he was a cripple. He offered his money out to pay to get into the concert and Jimmy said, "Come on in sir and enjoy the program. We'll make our money without taking yours". I shall never forget that. I has resonated in my heart for over 40 years. My cousin is deceased now, but he too, would tell friends and relatives, and quote, "How nice that boy on the Mighty Clouds was"......(he couldn't recall his name). Jimmy was an awesome singer and like you say.....had a calling on his life....I never knew he went into the ministry.
@semnole I would love to hear some of the stories that your dad could tell. I wish there was some UA-cam video of Jimmy doing his thing with the Clouds. Maybe there is and I just can't find it.
Please allow me to differ. Joe did the original recording of this song and Joe is singing it here. Thats Jimmy that picked it up near the end. There is a video on here where Jimmy sings it in a medley on Gospel Showcase TV show back in the day but Joe always sang this song in live concerts.

Sadly, Joe, Cleve & Clay Graham, Spencer Taylor, Dorothy Norwood, Shirley Caesar and Percy are the last of the legions for the Golden Era of Gospel.
I'D LIKE TO CORRECT YA ON THE NAME OF THE MEMBER THAT'S SHARING THE LEAD..JIMMY JONES WAS THE OF THE OTHER LEAD SINGER...
You are right......Jimmy sang second lead to Joe. However, I always felt Jimmy was the better singer. JMO
