Why are there so many negitive emotions!?! Joy is alone here. Why isnt there more positive emotions!

I think the creators wanted to present and explore those emotions more in-depth as people find their way into high school. Ultimately, I think in the end there will be more positivity, strength, and maturity after navigating those emotions.

I suspect this move will end in one of two ways.
      1) the original emotions eventually reaching a mutual compromise with the newer ones, as they all come to realize Riley needs all of them. I mean, the very thought of a teen with suppressed or no joy, is pretty scary to me. There is no way that should work out well for long.
      2) there is some sort of blending of the emotions, resulting in still more emotions.
Maybe Joy and Ennui result in Contentment or Satisfaction, the sort of happiness that comes from reaching your goal and momentarily feeling you don't need to do anything else but relax.
Anxiety and Sadness might become Despair or Depression.
Joy and Envy become Adoration, which leads to romantic love... and a lot of people are assuming Riley's interest in that cool girl might be telling.
Anyway, I do think whatever mass reorganization Anxiety sets up is going to make it possible for Riley to mature. It looked like an office space with cubicles... which fits since Riley's parents have "grown up" emotions.

@@samoanjoseph1457 Those are some good observations. Seeing them navigate through either scenario will be worth taking notes on.
