We were on a boat last summer and saw an eagle in the water. It was waterlogged and he was exhausted. I fished him out of the lake and got him into some sun warmed beach towels and dried him off. He was just so weary from trying to fly that he actually fell asleep in my arms. We set him on a nice warm seat cushion and just left him be to dry out with the wind and sun and sleep as long as he wanted. After a few hours he perked up and flew off. He was a little shaky at first but he made one pass over us and left. I am certain he would have drowned or been run over from a boat. Nice feeling to see them get back to their ways knowing you made it possible. Just takes a little caring and some common sense.
I’m a hunter and I actually did make an actual bat burrito once I shot one with my crossbow. Was a slightly gamey flavour but once u got used to it it was really moreish and I went back to the same spot and managed to shoot a few 😊more.

When i was young i went caving a few times and i was terrified of bats because of a common belief that they're flying at you and getting tangled up in your hair. I don't know how much is true in this common belief but now seeing them close up here on youtube i just think of them as cute little puppy dogs with their built in umbrellas lol 😃
Because in the U.S. the news and the government agencies scare us to death about rabies. Every summer they constantly report on how many bats they tested have rabies. They tell us if you wake up in a room with a bat, get the shots immediately. (I didn't this summer, but I worried about it for a month.) They run stories of the person who didn't know they were bit and died. They tell you rabies can remain in you for years and then kill you. They point out it is always fatal. So it isn't the bat itself anyone is scared. It is the hype.
I think people kept some kind of superstitious feeling from the time when religion depicted the devil as a bat-like creature. I love bats too. Although a vet in France recently explained to me that they really can have rabbies (I thought the movie Cujo was exaggerated), and if I was to find one dead, I should carefully handle it and put it in a plastic bag, seal it, and bring it to the nearest vet for them to run tests and see if it had rabbies. That way they can map where thr disease is present. He told they can definitely transmit rabbies to pets from saliva alone... If the bat comes to you instead of being afraid, it's not a good sign. Otherwise, they're so adorable!
Flying foxes are not the same as most of the bats we have in the US. Most species are smaller, rat-like, and usually kinda ugly and gather in swarms which is usually what adds to their fear factor. Few people enjoy seeing a cave with a roof covered in hundreds of squirming rat creatures that can fly

Great video. I've always liked bats. I think they're cute - almost like a little dog, except with wings. Fascinating critters.....So glad there are people like you giving them another chance at a good life.
I think the flying fox/dog faced type bats are really cute. But the ones we have where I live are unattractive. Most are the size of a winged mouse and have tiny bead like eyes, smashed in flat faces and absolutely huge ears. They look like little goblins and arent that cute. But they are wonderful pest control. Theres a colony that lives in a tree nearby and its cool to watch them when they take off to feed in the evening and listen to their chittering at night after they come back. Very few biting insects in my neighborhood
@@childofcascadia I think those are called vampire bats.. they are kind of ugly but they're still just bats and won't hurt you unless there is something wrong like protecting young or if they have rabies.
@mx mars The ones that live near me are called long eared myotis bats. They eat insects and are one of the more common types of bat where I live. They pretty much mind their own business and they way keep down the amount of mosquitos and moths in the neighborhood. Its cool to watch them when they take off to go catch bugs. They all go off at once and its neat to see them all fly off in different directions to hunt for the night. These bats are afraid of people and wont let you get close to them, so I know if one let you approach it, its probably very sick and to stay away from it and call the wildlife people. But vampire bats are pretty cool too. Myotis species bats look kind of like them, but they have a slightly pointier nose and they eat insects instead of blood. Vampire bats dont live in the western US though, only in central and south america. Id like to see one someday.
Awwwww, sweet precious Eddie! Fly high and enjoy your life! Thank you for taking care of Eddie and all the other bats who are in need of love and support! 💖🦇💖

It's not entirely true that bats are the only mammals that can fly. Every time I fly somewhere (that's relatively often around 20 times a year), I see at least 2 to 4 stewardesses per flight. 😌 I think that in fairness one should not forget the species of humans. Because 1. they fly and 2. they can give milk and suckle. Some also make such (funny) noises, unfortunately I haven't found out what they mean by that, but I don't think it's a bad thing, because they always smile. Maybe someone here can help me with something if any of you have experienced something similar. I thank you in advance.

Honestly bats ARE vectors for many viruses and diseases that can spread to people (not just rabies). Never handle random bats that you don’t know or that are not from captivity
Bats are super critical to the environment. They're one of the primary forces keeping insect populations down and pollinate cactus, amongst other roles. These particular Bats are Fruit Bats. They're also being slowly driven extinct by wind farms.

We had a bat, when I was a kid, get hung up, some how, in our front door burglar bars/screen. My pops got it out and it flew into our house and we lost it. Later that night, my ma and pops were watching Halloween and my ma heard a noise, like quiet fluttering. Then she screamed and my pops turned on the fan light. It was, of course, the bat. It was looking for a way out and flying with precision around the ceiling fan. My pops opened the patio door and out it went. Never saw a bat again in my life. My ma was scared from the movie and when she saw a giant black thing flying through the house...😅 I never figured out how it got stuck between the screen and burglar bars.🤔

Eddie is adorable!! Awesome job Batmom !!!
I love Batmom 😊❤
Great video. I've always liked bats. I think they're cute - almost like a little dog, except with wings. Fascinating critters.....So glad there are people like you giving them another chance at a good life.
They're adorrrablle!!!
@mx mars
The ones that live near me are called long eared myotis bats.
Love that little chittering sound bats make. ❤
Awwwww, sweet precious Eddie! Fly high and enjoy your life! Thank you for taking care of Eddie and all the other bats who are in need of love and support! 💖🦇💖

Bats are adorable🥰
Oh, lady... You've got me emotional. God bless all the rescuers and the animals

Flying foxes are what made me realize bats not only aren't scary but also can be absurdly cute ❤
Lots of animals are cute when domesticated
@@TheZombiesAreComing Bats aren't domesticated tho. They're still cute.
If bats are so cute, why do they have a starring role on Halloween and in every monster movie ever made?
@@onlyme112why do black cats?
Superstition
@@onlyme112Because they come out during the night and in swarms (in the dark as silhouettes behind the moonlight that can look pretty scary! Especially in caves with little to no light and they just swarm around!). At daytime they look so chill and aren't out hunting so that helps too.
bats are amazing animals!! they are the only flying mammals.
bats are also very cute. love the chattering noises that Eddie
was making too.

I like watching our bats come out late dusk. Their flight looks graceful but strong. They really do keep mosquitoes at bay in our hot humid summers. Thank you so much for your loving work. It wouldnt be easy to say goodbye to the babies you raised and loved. Rescue people are so vital and so special. And i just saw a thumbs up from little Eddie! ❤
I always perceive bats as a scary and dirty animal. You and Eddie change my perspective once and for all. When I see them again, I'll remember that they also a wonderful animal. Thank you.❤
Honestly bats ARE vectors for many viruses and diseases that can spread to people (not just rabies). Never handle random bats that you don’t know or that are not from captivity
They are only dirty because they are mammals and carry diseases.
Bats are super critical to the environment. They're one of the primary forces keeping insect populations down and pollinate cactus, amongst other roles. These particular Bats are Fruit Bats.
They're also being slowly driven extinct by wind farms.
@@thebighurt2495mostly correct, except for the wind farm bit. 👍🏼
@@rpdx3 Far more dangerous than any wind farm is issues like white nose syndrome! I used to be a caver and we had to employ some serious decontamination and safety procedures to try and keep uninfected cave populations safe.
Little flying puppies! I’m so glad there are rescuers for bats because they are so threatened by human activity. Eddie was so cute drinking milk upside down with a drop of milk on his nose😄Hope Eddie has a great life in the wild !

Oh my gooooodness 😍😍 Eddie is so sweet. It must have been so hard letting him go. Great job Batmom
Awww! He smiled at you. I love to see bats flying around my neighborhood. I would love to have many more of them.
My ma was scared from the movie and when she saw a giant black thing flying through the house...😅
I never figured out how it got stuck between the screen and burglar bars.🤔
Yes he loved her! So Sweet!
Also, megabat wildlife rescuers are the most courageous wonderful caring people. It’s an extremely stressful often heartbreaking job & these people are my biggest heroes! I can’t thank them all enough for doing what they can to save these incredible bats that are so vital to Australia’s complex forest ecosystems. I wish I could personally thank this lady for the amazing job she is doing! I try to donate to the bat rescue orgs when I can but it often doesn’t seem enough when we see tragedies happen like the Australian fires & floods.
So many animal videos, including this one, show us they all feel love. It seems universal. ♥
Well done! Bats are magnificent and unique mammals. We need to learn to appreciate them more and all they do as part of the ecosystem. Keep spreading the word and making those connections!
