So I have an interesting fact that I can add as a metalhead, for promotion there exists a metal version of Dance Macabre with lyrics. It is called The Ghost In Me and it is by Dutch symphonic metal band Epica, the music video was filmed in the new area for the Danse Macabre and the lyrics discuss the story. Also interestingly the vocalist wears contact lenses in the video, yellow and blue just like the cat. The Efteling has a long history with the Dutch metal scene for example in the song for the Baron there are vocals by Anneke van Giersbergen and any woodwind instrument you hear are by Jeroen Goosens. Now both Anneke and Jeroen are frequent collaborators of Arjen Anthony Lucassen a Dutch mutli-instrumentalist and composer most well known for his sci-fi rock opera project Ayreon. Another fun fact Epica played The Ghost In Me before it came out during their Symphonic Synergies show which was a show in The Netherlands with a full orchestra behind them and a children's choir. My dad was at that show so I already knew about it before the music video was uploaded.
@@ThemeParkPassion Thank you, oh and I think there should be a tombstone with "Epica" on it in the area. I saw it briefly in the music video but there also should still be a tombstone with "Kate Bush" because she promoted the Spookslot with a music video when that was just build. Perks of being from The Netherlands and into metal I know these little things. I have yet to ride it myself but I saw it being build a year ago when I visited the Efteling with my brothers.
I have been in the Danse Macabre twice last week. It is such a smooth "dance" to the music and it features some nice objects from the original "Spookslot" which was the former name of the ride. Efteling did a fantastic job with this.
forgot to mention this part of the ride, just before the finale when the place lights up, the whole place gets dark, the ride lifts up, and does a freefall drop to jumpscare guests with zero g.
Thanks for mentioning this! I wasn’t sure if that happened or not because the POV’s released when I was making this video didn’t make that part very clear. I knew something happened but I didn’t really know what. Thanks for the clarification!
@@ThemeParkPassion If you never heard of the park it's hard to follow their socials... Exactly! Dude, the Internet is RIGHT THERE. There's no excuse for not knowing how a word is spelled or pronounced. And yes, macabre is slightly difficult because Americans sometimes pronounce it "macab", while the British more accurately pronounce it "macabruh.
The theming is top notch. I love the queue and the setup. But the ride? It's essentially a merry-go-round with a bit of Tilt-A-Whirl and motion sim. Better suited to a pure thrill ride than storytelling.
I've been obsessed with this since I saw the first videos on 11/01! It truly is amazing in both artistic vision and technical execution. But having seen everything, I have a couple of thoughts to share...the concept art shows the conductor as a large "hologram" over the entire ride, I'm sorry they didn't carry that out. I also wonder why they went with the traditional "ghost" look, and didn't dress him as a conductor in formal wear. I don't understand the ruined pile of instruments in the center: do they "heal" and become playable, or play by themselves? The vids I've seen show the first flash, and the final blast of smoke...but nothing else. And, given the long lines, it's a shame they've cut the piece almost in half to less than four minutes. Minor quibbles, it's still astonishing work!
Yeah the design for the ride is fantastic. I didn’t know the conductor was originally going to be a hologram! That would have been really interesting! Thanks for the comment!
A Hologram? It isn't. It's was never supposed to be. It's an animatronic. And there is so much to see. It's hard to record because of all the motion. The ghost was drawn in the original artwork some 40+ years ago, but due to financial issues, it was not constructed. Technically, it is a masterpiece now. You have to experience it yourself and immerse yourself in the storyline.
Yeah it’s so hard to figure out what is going on and what is what on a POV vs being there in person. It definitely looks like something I’ve got to experience in person!@@viderethevaccinatorfromhol7536.

This is so creative and unique, wish we had rides like this in the US.

A touch of Haunted Mansion, too. Very nice.
I wonder how many people get motion sickness from riding this?
Not many I think. I had my first 2 rides today and it was fantastic and very smooth. It was just like dancing on the great music of Danse Macabre. ❤
