- When the name, Meco happens to be mentioned. Many, who know of him or of his music, will quickly respond--"The Wizard Of Oz". Not of the classic movie...But the now classic, Disco album, The Wizard Of Oz, from 1978. Though it was not his first album. That belonged to, Star Wars And Other Galactic Funk from 1977--spawning the hit single, Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band, which charted number one on Billboard's Hot 100 of that year. Nor was it his second album. That goes to; Encounters Of Every Kind. Which was also released in 1977 and scored another hit single; Theme From Close Encounters, placing it on Billboard's Hot 100 at number 25 in 1978.
No...The Wizard Of Oz, was Meco's third album that also gave birth to a hit single, Over The Rainbow/We're Off To See The Wizard, charting also in 1978, on Billboard's Hot 100 at number 35. And it's The Wizard Of Oz, that has many claiming to this day, as Meco's best and most popular out of all his albums. Not to mention, the most sought after. There was a time, when many Disco-Tech's, constantly played the single and the dance floor was always filled with gyrating bodies putting their own choreography to the beat and having a blast doing so.
After rediscovering this recording, I couldn't help, but have a bit of fun mixing clips from the all time, perennial classic film, and one of my favorites; The Wizard Of Oz, to Meco's 1978 hit, Over The Rainbow/We're Off To See The Wizard Medley. Which, like the 1939 movie...Never seems to age with time.
I own this on both record and CD from 1977. I was born October30, 1978. I love the recording in sync with the scenes from my all-time favorite movie, the 1939MGM classic movie The Wizard of Oz!
Meco...his music was a disco staple. I and many more people from that era, had Meco albums but my fave was his Star Wars music version. Meco Monardo lives on in this music. 👍👍
Meco passed away this year. RIP
I've always loved this album. MECO does a surprisingly faithful composite of the score, including some of the orchestral underscore. But then the wonderful Arlen/Stothart music could probably hold up under anything. Nice video editing too. This is a keeper!
I like meco

I have an LP released in Spain on the RCA Victor label. Although it says "Stereo" on the folder and the label, the whole recording is heard in "Mono". I wonder why?
2:27 to 2:30 uses a motif that Meco had used in his version of the "Star Wars" theme.
Wonderfull..
1:21 I love that tune
You’ve done a great job syncing the video to the song, well done!
Loved it!! The editing is fantastic!!!
Hearing Margret Hamilton cry out I'll get you my pretty and your little dog too, sends chills down my spine. Hamilton has become an Icon from this film. Originally they were ready to cast the great character actress (First actress to win a best supporting actress Oscar Gale Sondergaard. but realize that Hamilton had the right look and Sondergaard was too pretty.
+luis grant Yes, the laugh is chilling, though this isn't Ms. Hamilton on the recording. But the actress/singer does a pretty good job filling in.
synchronize the movie to the whole Meco album

I have the album, its yello and only one side.
Can I have it? Lol
Yes you may!
Why would you wanna give it away? Is it not a colectors item?
I was just kidding and yes it is a collectors dream!
You big teaze lol. I knew you were joking, you'd be crazy to give that away.
Awesome.
That was HOT!
0:21 When you click your heels another three times to go back to Oz because Kansas is boring as hell
last year on youtube i seen a still image montage that was really put together well. I think it was taken down for 1 reason or the other but i'd like to see it again. Does anybody have an idea what i'm talking about?

Hello are we allowed to use this song for our Pantomime?
This feels more like The Wizard of Oz meets, well, The Wiz.
