- Aizawl is perched on hills that offer a mesmerizing panorama of valleys and vibrant landscapes. Known for its unique blend of tradition and modernity, Aizawl city is characterized by colourful local markets, where traditional Mizo handloom and handicrafts find their place.
Correction: Mizoram achieved full statehood in 1987 and not 1984 as I mentioned in the video. This was a slip of tongue from my side.
I recently spent a few days exploring the largely underexplored part of Northeast India - Mizoram, and today’s film is about Mizoram’s capital Aizawl. These were some of the most memorable days of my travels in recent times and this mini-series is an ode to my great time in the state!

Now Mizoram is a picturesque state known for its lush hills, vibrant culture, and diverse tribal communities. The state is characterized by its terraced paddy fields, dense forests, and unique Mizo cuisine, featuring bamboo shoots and local herbs.
I spent Christmas in the city and got to experience a completely unique local culture of the big feast the day after the festival. The church in my neighbourhood invited us for the feast and I just can’t thank them enough for it. The celebration is quite different from what I’ve experienced before around Christmas!

Correction: Mizoram became a state of Indian Union's 23rd state in 20 February 1987, and not 1984 as I mentioned. It was purely a slip of tongue from my end.
We almost had Skywalk on that Summit! We have had alot of Mukbangers in the recent past. I always felt inervate & sadden for tourists like you. Let's hope the new regime is deviant and do visit again.

Sometimes when tourists came to Mizoram, I feel a bit embarrassed thinking there is nothing much to it; our Foods are bland, expensive and sometimes even the locals have a hard time finding places to eat.
But you covered up my State nicely and still see the good. Thank you and come again!!
Please don’t think that way - there’s so much to do there and I couldn’t even visit the places I wanted to cover. I will certainly visit again and explore more there :)
Don't be upset....we also have such problems ....which are bigger than your state.there have some dirty racism...which affect the people of Northeast Indians...you all face such discrimination here ...I also think and upset about that why our people hate each other ...I feel realy frustrated by those Cringe people's who taunt North eastern peoples by saying ' chinki minki ', 'hakka noodles ' and many more(can't tell )😢😒😠😥
Glad you enjoyed your stay at Aizawl, my hometown. Sadly two days of inactivity in terms of the streets being empty, etc. But that's a sign for you to come back and explore more of Aizawl and it's people.
I agree - I was really hoping to capture a lot more of Mizo life (and also cafés there), but my stay was still really good. I do hope to come back someday 🙌🙌
The best time to visit Aizawl is prior to Christmas sometime during 21st to 24th December when streets are crowded with cheerful people, shopping or simply hanging out, street Concerts etc.
The actual Christmas day is usually calm & cool with 95% of the people attending Church services in their own locality committing themselves to worship and as you have experienced, all shops are closed & there is hardly any activity on the streets.

I had stayed in Mizoram for 5 years.Lovely city, kind hearted and helping people.
Learnt mizo and had travelled to most of the remote places in Mizoram.
The way you describe history was very clear, I have learned Solomon Temple's History from your explanation, I am Mizo but I never know.

I drove my car to Mizoram in 2017 covered places like Aizawl, Hmuifang, East Lungdar, Khazawl, Champai, Zokhawthar which is the border town with Myanmar. Also entered into Myanmar's Chin State. It was a memorable experience and will Cherish it forever.

As a Mizo born and brought up in Aizawl, but spending most of my adult life outside the state - i always wish i had the time and opportunity to explore some of the uniquely beautiful places in Mizoram.
