Hi Brokeloader! I didnt know you have a UA-cam channel. That is one bold or very lucky deer walk through your range! Wow!!! I'll be watching your videos to learn what I can about rifle cartridge reloading. Great videos! Two Gun Terry
I'm planning on using the Hornady Tool to measure distance to the lands as a starting point so I don't run into the same issue. Good reminder to work on one variable at a time I think.
We always learn. Even if what we learn is 'what NOT to do'. We also sometimes scratch our heads and wonder what went wrong. You are also correct you know what that particular load did even though it was unplanned. A day at the range is time well spent. Thank you for sharing with us and reminding us 'one variable at a time'. Even the weather makes a difference. Bringing a camera usually makes things go sideways for anything I am doing as well. I am not sure why. Good luck on your load development.
It's not a failure if we learn from it. That's how we're built. If you do something you already know how to do you haven't learned. You've just repeated something. Keep at it!
I tell my students: "It's not a failure, it's a learning experience." Good stuff, and nice to see ya! BTW, Hummelstown F&S has a gunshow/sportsman's Flea this Saturday. I got good stuff last year. 8-1.
I've got to the habit of checking the OAL / jam before I load a round . It can save a lot of headache and wasted test loads . After a while you'll get a feel for where a jacketed and a cast bullet will like to be for OAL . Since doing this , I can sometimes find " THE LOAD " with 12 to 15 test loads . I don't even bother with start to medium loads as they won't have the velocity I'm looking for anyway . This is all learned by looking at the test load targets like you're doing and then the bell will go off in your head .
My guess is that OAL change was not enough to make much of a difference. Maybe but I would bet a cold beer it did not. More likely it is a combination of other very minor things.
Great tests either way! Maybe if you go back to the first case lengths and try the 17.4 you’d get some good results. Looking forward to more tests brother 🙂🇺🇸🔥👍👍

Yep taking notes helped me figure out what went wrong.
