I'm a Band-Maid to my bones kinda guy but here are just a few off the top of my head to tuck away and keep in mind. Hanabie, Glim Spanky, Nemophila, Skandal, Neki, Lonesome Blue, Trident and *Band-Maids Arche Enemies - Band-Maico* Plus a whole slew of other bands that are all equally worthy of mention but a line has to be drawn somewhere otherwise this could become the aforementioned said thesis Special Side Note - Asterism - "Dawn ~ Live 2018" a phenomenal rock instrumental by 16, 17 and 20 yr old musicians (at the time of filming) That is legitimately as good as or better than anything I've ever heard by Steve Vai, Joe Satriani or Nuno Bettencourt guitar wise. Babymetal, but they're a whole nother animal altogether, more along the lines of Metal Musical Theatre like an Alice Cooper with a million times more talent and better songs writers and musical team if instrumentalists behind them creating some amazing music. Dave, as an old rocker I empathised with a lot of your early comments. I’m so glad you liked this so much and you really have no idea what a gate you’ve just opened. These girls are the most phenomenal band I’ve seen in decades and the sheer quality of all their songs is unique. I say with confidence, no disrespect to other bands you’ve mentioned, in my opinion they’re the best rock band on this planet. I would try Moratorium official live video next.

Kanami is the genius of writing their music. They all love each other and Kanami writes the music to give everyone a spotlight. She is so precise in her writing that as she gives each member their part, she has notes about how it should be played. For Akane, she will indicate Double Kick Drum or not. Even for MISA, she will indicate whether she is to pick or slap. She has been Miku's guitar tutor since the band formed. It has been fun to watch Miku develop her rhythm guitar skills over the years.

This is the best band ever. 80% of what I listen to now are Japanese bands with some Korean and Mexican tossed in. Real instruments, no autotune. Can't wait for the Maids to get back to the US.

MISA is a Hybrid Picker. When she needs to Slap she tucks the pick into the crease of her finger, and never drops it. She can do Finger Style, but doesn't do it very often. It's usually Pick & Slap.
There's no shortage of jaw dropping songs from Band-Maid, they are all splendid pieces of composition and performance. The song "Don't You Tell Me" from that same show has some more bass/lead interplay. Once upon a time, when I was still a teenager, I waited in real time for new albums by Deep Purple and other rock bands to come out. They had a huge influence on me as a musician. After 1975, hard rock gradually began to turn into heavy metal. And that was no longer my thing. Therefore, with all due respect to the musicians of LOVEBITES, I still give preference to BAND-MAID. That distant feeling of youth has returned. By the way. In an interview with Californian TV channel Reality Check TV on November 10, 2018, Akane named Ian Paice as her idol, and Kanami named Carlos Santana.

I've seen hundreds of Bands live in concert, seen some of the best Rock bands out there... But Band-Maid jumped to my top live performances when I saw them in a small venue in Boston in 2022... The feeling I got from the concert is they truly love to perform live, unlike most of the bands I've seen that just seem to be there to get another gig done. The energy was real and the crowd participation was just wild.

IMHO Lovebites deserves the best metal band of 2024 having said that Band Maid has been there since 2013 so both groups are awesome as is newcomer but still older band Hagane after losing 3 members including an awesome guitarist Hagane added a new Singer and a world famous UA-cam Drummer and Now are in the forfront with great music Nagi new singer has a beautiful voice and Junna on Drums is like Haruna with more expression of movements its almost like her bandmates are in slow motion and her at 100% also not to be overlooked Sayaka on Bass is solid and the other awesome guitarist who started Hagane Sakura is very fast also Miyako and Midori type speed.

They're both really different bands, and they're at the top of their game. 5 top tier musicians in one group, in my opinion this is the reason they have stayed together for 11+ years (with the original lineup) and 130+ tracks to their credit, there is none of that rock star ego crap about 1 person carrying the band. They are one of the top touring rock bands in the business today, keep an eye on them, they are the real deal.
The best Journy to me was before Cain and Perry- Neil Schon and Gregg Rolie left Santana having been part of forming it with Carlos and formed Journey At first they still had the Santana sound for Journey-Journey Self Titled 1975 (An Album that also had the Instrumental masterpieces Topaz and Kohoutek (Named after an Asteroid that was expected back then) the next two albums On Through The Future and Next were of the same methods then came Steve Perry and with Rolie were still some solid rockers like Just The Same Way/Anytime City of The Angels On Departure and Evolution albums even On Frontiers with Perry there were still Rockers Back Talk/Frontiers/Rubicon
Another old rocker here. Band-Maid will have songs that hit right in your wheelhouse no matter what it is. And since they are so good they will get you to expand your wheelhouse to encompass all the genres they do. I see them as a force attempting to stitch back together the splintered rock music to what it was in the 50s-60s where there were only 2 genres, good music and bad.
Dave, there is another recently released Band-Maid live video on UA-cam that is fun as hell! The video is titled on UA-cam Band-Maid "Honkai" SPIN-OFF. The song is a proper hard rock song, but the intro to the song is EPIC. Like on "Hate?", MISA, their incredible bassist and Akane, their amazing drummer, have a conversation (with Akane always smiling) that will take you out of this world. MISA's bass tone on this one is otherworldy.

I'm sure you've been getting comments from your subs, as the fan bases have a lot of overlap. NEMOPHILA plays at the same level of talent as BM and LB. You were talking about playing Metal with smiles. NEMOPHILA are the QUEENS of "Happy Metal", a term often used when speaking about them. Heavy into hair flipping and head banging, and unlike BM and LB, who where costumes (which I love), part of the band charter was to exhibit high degrees of "Rock Fashion" which they pull off in spades. Always wearing something different, and looking like the coolest girls on the planet. NEMOPHILA is much harder Metal, like old school, but yet still different and unique. Mayu, the lead vocalist has a very unique voice. My favorite vocalist of the 3, not because Asami and Saiki aren't awesome, they are, Mayu is just different. I won't spoil it for you. You should try the following song. I guarantee you have never heard anything like it. There are 3-4 real twists that will knock your socks off. Mayu sings "Everybody, dance and make some noise. Miku's last name translates to "Small Pigeon" and she normally says "PO" at the end of every sentence. A pigeon in Japan is what we usually refer to as a dove. What's great about Band-Maid is that you never know what you get - they don't stick to one genre. The rules are there are no rules. Of all their songs there's only one that I can think of that I'm not particularly fond of, it's not bad, just forgettable.
So why the question mark in the song title “HATE?” Don’t know if this has been mentioned to you yet, but “ha te?” means “what?” in Japanese. Miku often uses mixed-language and mixed meaning puns in her lyrics and song titles. She’s a clever little pigeon!

Asterism - "Dawn ~ Live 2018" a phenomenal rock instrumental by 16, 17 and 20 yr old musicians (at the time of filming) That is legitimately as good as or better than anything I've ever heard by Steve Vai, Joe Satriani or Nuno Bettencourt guitar wise.
Babymetal, but they're a whole nother animal altogether, more along the lines of Metal Musical Theatre like an Alice Cooper with a million times more talent and better songs writers and musical team if instrumentalists behind them creating some amazing music. Dave, as an old rocker I empathised with a lot of your early comments. I’m so glad you liked this so much and you really have no idea what a gate you’ve just opened. These girls are the most phenomenal band I’ve seen in decades and the sheer quality of all their songs is unique. 15:02 - Actually MISA's signature is alternating between slap and pick while performing (that and not wearing shoes, hence her nickname - The Barefoot Assassin). You see this in their 2020 live version of Domination.
For clarification, the reason this performance (November 2023) was dialed up to 11 was because this concert was celebrating BAND-MAID's 10th anniversary. They're happy to perform at smaller venues like House of Blues and Lollapalooza when touring in the United States.

Kanami is the genius of writing their music. They all love each other and Kanami writes the music to give everyone a spotlight. She is so precise in her writing that as she gives each member their part, she has notes about how it should be played. For Akane, she will indicate Double Kick Drum or not. Even for MISA, she will indicate whether she is to pick or slap. She has been Miku's guitar tutor since the band formed. It has been fun to watch Miku develop her rhythm guitar skills over the years.
Discovered Band Maid in 2019 and they have become on of my favorite bands. So now you reacted to Band Maid, check. Lovebite, check. You may also like a band called Nemophila. Another all female Japanese rock/metal band. I think of Band Maid, Lovebites, and Nemophila as the trifecta of female rock/metal bands from Japan. MISA is a Hybrid Picker. When she needs to Slap she tucks the pick into the crease of her finger, and never drops it. She can do Finger Style, but doesn't do it very often. It's usually Pick & Slap.
There's no shortage of jaw dropping songs from Band-Maid, they are all splendid pieces of composition and performance. The song "Don't You Tell Me" from that same show has some more bass/lead interplay. Once upon a time, when I was still a teenager, I waited in real time for new albums by Deep Purple and other rock bands to come out. They had a huge influence on me as a musician. After 1975, hard rock gradually began to turn into heavy metal. And that was no longer my thing. Therefore, with all due respect to the musicians of LOVEBITES, I still give preference to BAND-MAID. That distant feeling of youth has returned. By the way. In an interview with Californian TV channel Reality Check TV on November 10, 2018, Akane named Ian Paice as her idol, and Kanami named Carlos Santana.

I've seen hundreds of Bands live in concert, seen some of the best Rock bands out there... But Band-Maid jumped to my top live performances when I saw them in a small venue in Boston in 2022... The feeling I got from the concert is they truly love to perform live, unlike most of the bands I've seen that just seem to be there to get another gig done. The energy was real and the crowd participation was just wild.

IMHO Lovebites deserves the best metal band of 2024 having said that Band Maid has been there since 2013 so both groups are awesome as is newcomer but still older band Hagane after losing 3 members including an awesome guitarist Hagane added a new Singer and a world famous UA-cam Drummer and Now are in the forfront with great music Nagi new singer has a beautiful voice and Junna on Drums is like Haruna with more expression of movements its almost like her bandmates are in slow motion and her at 100% also not to be overlooked Sayaka on Bass is solid and the other awesome guitarist who started Hagane Sakura is very fast also Miyako and Midori type speed.
They are all so talented and creative musicians 🎸🤘

They're both really different bands, and they're at the top of their game. Personally, Band-Maid is my favorite, I'm more into hard rock, and also Band-Maid's sound is very diverse, it is always a surprise what they will do next. I would put these badass rock stars up against anyone. Love the Maids.
5 top tier musicians in one group, in my opinion this is the reason they have stayed together for 11+ years (with the original lineup) and 130+ tracks to their credit, there is none of that rock star ego crap about 1 person carrying the band. They are one of the top touring rock bands in the business today, keep an eye on them, they are the real deal.
The best Journy to me was before Cain and Perry- Neil Schon and Gregg Rolie left Santana having been part of forming it with Carlos and formed Journey At first they still had the Santana sound for Journey-Journey Self Titled 1975 (An Album that also had the Instrumental masterpieces Topaz and Kohoutek (Named after an Asteroid that was expected back then) the next two albums On Through The Future and Next were of the same methods then came Steve Perry and with Rolie were still some solid rockers like Just The Same Way/Anytime City of The Angels On Departure and Evolution albums even On Frontiers with Perry there were still Rockers Back Talk/Frontiers/Rubicon
Another old rocker here. Band-Maid will have songs that hit right in your wheelhouse no matter what it is. And since they are so good they will get you to expand your wheelhouse to encompass all the genres they do. I see them as a force attempting to stitch back together the splintered rock music to what it was in the 50s-60s where there were only 2 genres, good music and bad.
Dave, there is another recently released Band-Maid live video on UA-cam that is fun as hell! The video is titled on UA-cam Band-Maid "Honkai" SPIN-OFF. The song is a proper hard rock song, but the intro to the song is EPIC. Like on "Hate?", MISA, their incredible bassist and Akane, their amazing drummer, have a conversation (with Akane always smiling) that will take you out of this world. MISA's bass tone on this one is otherworldy.
There so many bands with all female lineups in Japan. There is a list somewhere of the Top 80 female metal bands in Japan at the moment, and the number of all female bands in Japan has been estimated to be more than 600, and we are just seeing the cream of 30 of them. I'm sure you've been getting comments from your subs, as the fan bases have a lot of overlap. NEMOPHILA plays at the same level of talent as BM and LB. You were talking about playing Metal with smiles. NEMOPHILA are the QUEENS of "Happy Metal", a term often used when speaking about them. Heavy into hair flipping and head banging, and unlike BM and LB, who where costumes (which I love), part of the band charter was to exhibit high degrees of "Rock Fashion" which they pull off in spades. Always wearing something different, and looking like the coolest girls on the planet. NEMOPHILA is much harder Metal, like old school, but yet still different and unique. Mayu, the lead vocalist has a very unique voice. My favorite vocalist of the 3, not because Asami and Saiki aren't awesome, they are, Mayu is just different. I won't spoil it for you. You should try the following song. I guarantee you have never heard anything like it. There are 3-4 real twists that will knock your socks off. Mayu sings "Everybody, dance and make some noise. What's great about Band-Maid is that you never know what you get - they don't stick to one genre. The rules are there are no rules. Of all their songs there's only one that I can think of that I'm not particularly fond of, it's not bad, just forgettable.

Don’t know if this has been mentioned to you yet, but “ha te?” means “what?” in Japanese. Miku often uses mixed-language and mixed meaning puns in her lyrics and song titles. She’s a clever little pigeon!
