I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. A freshman in college during LJ's rookie season. 1993-94 and 1996-97 were among the BEST times of my life. This provides context as to when I watched Larry Johnson play.
Funny how perspectives change: I was 22 in 1995, and life was good or bad, depending on whether I had a summertime job! Incidentally, 1995 was the last summer when I was unemployed. Now, my Dad passed away unexpectedly in 2003, and life hasn't been the same since. ANY year prior to 2003, in hindsight, was a great year! Even though I was miserable in 1992 and 1995, and 1998, at least my Dad was alive and healthy. Still, given how bad 1995 was, and how I MADE 1996 better (hustling a lifeguarding job, which paid great), it made 1996 that much more special! And, the Sonics finally breaking through the first round, and making the Finals.
That’s the part of the NBA game I miss. I loved the post game. Not just elite guys like Olajuwon but so many players had great post moves. LJ, Coleman, Seikaly come to mind.
I love LJ. He was my all-time favorite college player at UNLV and one of my favorites in the league. I even have the #4 Rebels jersey in the closet but better than Zion and better than he will ever be... STOP IT!😂

The internet wasn't as big in 1994. Did Larry Johnson have a SPECIFIC fall, that led to his back problems and rapid decline? Or, was it an ongoing condition? Because, I thought that Ralph Sampson had a condition that ruined his knees, but I later learned that Sampson indeed took a big nasty fall during a game, and while it didn't send him out of that game, it led to his progressive and rapid unfortunate decline.
From what I can remember... No specific injury.. He just started to have back issues... I could be wrong, but I just remember that he would miss a few games here and there and then it became chronic...In his prime, he was so strong, so fast with amazing athletic abilities and a fantastic finisher around the basket..
From my understanding he injured his back during the off-season of '93 while participating in a charity game. He was trying to hype the crowd with his trademark power slams and he suffered a herniated disc in his back😔 As we all know that explosiveness was pretty much gone by the time he became a Knick
@@calvinbyer2319 I mean this seriously: Remember when he played Grandmama on an episode of Family Matters? And, in the script, he tweaked his ankle. I seriously feared that he may have tweaked his BACK for real, doing that. Very unfortunate to see what he declined into, by the time he got to New York. In his final season 2000-01, he couldn't even average 10.0 points.

I am afraid to ask about 1995.
Glad you rallied.

The reason I always wore #2 🙂
I love his footwork in the post.
Man what could of been, check out the documentary I did on him...

Now that I think of it, Zion reminds me of LJ. Idk why I’ve never heard any analyst compare the two.
Exactly I saw the comparison when Zion was at Duke
Zion is exactly LJ but more skilled and more athletic which is fucking insane to think of. Grandmama was a force in Charlotte
I agree. Zion is shorter muscular and explosive. Fun to watch!
@@Okieant more skilled lol Zion is not more skilled than LJ smh..yall casuals say anything
He’s Shaq and LJ with LBJ-risqué vision
Poetry in motion with thunder. What a marvel he was.
❤I Love ❤ Larry ❤❤
Probably the most dominant shortest power forward of his time, with the best skin fade haircut
Another was charles Barkley...played very much alike...
For real, that fade was on point on every game
Go❤ Larry Johnson 🎉🎉🎉 thank you Grandma ma
Larry Johnson was built like a tall Mike tyson God damn
He was amazing
Players back then playing with so much passion, and every point was hard earned.Nowadays the players are only looking for easy baskets.
Best highlight ever for LJ was the 4 point play.
1990 NCAA championship with UNLV
1991 number one pick by the Hornets 🐝
1991-92 NBA ROTY
1994 🇺🇸 🥇 FIBA
3x All Star ⭐️ Forward
Wasn't for injuries would have been a HOF.
No doubt
lol
2 time all star
Love how he made jordan look silly
You noticed that clip too. Watching Jordan fly past in futility before LJ made the basket was priceless.
Jordan didn’t want any
My faviorte color is Blue purple gray still I love the hornets
Got his part go hard 💯
He was one of my favorites, Webber also……
When the NBA had real men! I remember his entry he was one of the scariest things on the court

The first & better version of Zion, a healthy LJ would be a top 10 player in the NBA today.
