Nice job! I am enjoying watching you do the crossword puzzles. I had to laugh though because I didn't do so good on today's puzzle. The funny part is as you are saying the clues I am answering but I didn't know them when I was trying to fill it out.
Very cool to see that you're starting to learn the full crossword. I started doing them a bit over a year ago to branch out from mostly doing sudoku and I've found it quite rewarding. As a math guy it's got me to learn more about other subjects: literature, history, geography etc. There is definitely a learning curve to them though. I think my first Monday puzzle took me almost an hour with multiple google searches, but I can usually finish the Monday in under 10 minutes now, and can get through about 80% of the Saturdays without any hints. A lot of it is just repetition, you see the same types of clues over again. Even the proper names, ones that are short and vowel heavy will come up again and again. Like Lena Olin today was a write-in just from seeing her name in previous puzzles. Best of luck on your crossword journey, just keep doing more puzzles!
“Pamplona bulls” and “done, in Dijon” are both a class of clue meaning they’re looking for the word in the language of the city/region. So “toro” is Spanish bull and “fini” is finished in French.
Great progress! This was not an easy one. I didn't finish in one go and had to continue after dinner. But I got it without help. "I don't know what Michigan has to do with Chicago." -- Well, for starters, Chicago is on Lake Michigan. I have strolled down Michigan Avenue to John Hancock Center so that was a gimme for me. I saw Chicago the movie but I didn't immediately remember Roxie's name; however, knowing "axel" (as a Scrabble player, I have to know all short ZXQJ words), it rang a bell.
Nice job! Today was my first attempt at the crossword, I had a good experience! Only missed somali and olin, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to spell Roxie 😆
You might try the Universal crossword on days when the NYT is too hard. It's about the same difficulty as NYT Monday, but it's somewhat smaller, while still having long words and phrases and a theme, so it would probably be good practice.
@Rangsk you’ll get faster quickly. Mondays and Tuesdays are usually under 15 minutes for me but I certainly didn’t start there! You start to learn the “New York Times Tricks” of the crosswords and they get much easier. I also find it easier usually to just go quickly thru all the acrosses and then all the downs quickly (think of it as your initial scan in sudoku doing the bands then the stacks) and then filling in around them after.
Subscription is required for crosswords. I took the intro offer of full access for $1 per week but the yearlong subscription is ending soon and I'll probably downgrade to games only.

If content creation was my full time job I'd consider it, but already just doing the Mon/Tues has been a huge time sink
