Hello! I'm sorry for the haters. I wanted to let you know I appreciate this video. This is the kind of stuff I wanted to watch. There's not a lot of travel videos about Russia unfortunately. I really like yours though!
When I was with he Russian police in Moscow we used smoked meat and sliced cucumber as well as black bread. One retired Russian general with two fingers missing from the Great Patriotic War frost bite did do the shot if vodka and smell of bread because he said they were so starved fighting the German hordes he always had enough vodka for courage but not enough bread to eat; only a smell. The police detectives at Petrovka 38 took me and other American police officers (still the Soviet Union) to the Olympic Center to mingle with op athletes to do the ritual of sauna, deep plunge, and drinking and eating great food. The sauna was hotter than I was ever in but As a American Marine I resolved to stay as long as the Russians even if it killed me.
"You might've heard about Russians being alcoholics and things like that..." *Russian in the background pours the last of a suspicious can into a coffee mug*
The effect of smelling a piece of black bread after a shot of vodka is quite interesting. First, you EXHALE, then bottoms up, then take a deep breath through a slice of dark rye bread. You may discover that the aftertaste of a drink is gone. Also, try to eat a bit after each shot, get a little bite or a snack of something, but don't chase it with a liquid right away. These are a few basic rules of drinking Russian style. Drink responsibility !
@@SamsRussianAdventures not sure mate, I've been binge watching your videos since last night. I think you have a few about zakuski, like all of them. I'll check it out for sure.
Yes, I must confess, I have heard many times that most Russian men are alcoholics. Sad but true. I really enjoy watching videos like this. I am very tired of the propaganda we are fed by our governments. People are just people. No matter where they are from. Let's get along and enjoy our life, while we can!
My great grandfather changed his name when he came to America. It was Elkin which is Anglo saxon but left the kin in there because it's Russian, he drank vodka and told me the importance of the family unit. He was a soldier in WW2.
bread with pig fat onion or garlic is really good Salva(smoked pig fat) or what you call it is nice with a too much salt on it we mostly eat with beer or liqour (i really like slivovitz)
Definitely like this video ! Would love to see some more variety in terms of maybe a traditional russian meal, since this is the custom of drinks after the meal if im not mistaken
@@ben.sith92 yes, these are the types of goods that Russian’s eat while drinking. Russian’s very rarely just drink. If you visits somebody’s house they will always have zakuski. Quite often they won’t have a chaser. Just alcohol and food.
Agreed. We do drink and eat when we get together. Pickles(or the juice) are also really good after the first couple of shots ESP for the non-Russian drinkers since it masks the typical alcohol aftertaste😂
Jonah Miller I don’t either! That’s why I always found it weird! Lately I have found that are often in a small fridge near to the checkout but in some big supermarkets like globus, they actually come in plastic containers! With the tin inside! I always think it’s strange!
Daniel Uberg I just try to show things as they are. I get lots of crazy comments from people that I’m a kgb spy and that I’m pushing Russian propaganda! It’s incredible!!!! Thanks for your comments and if there is any type of video that you would like me to make, let me know and I will do it!

Have a question. All the shots of food stores in russia show an incredible volume of AMERICAN products, yet I keep hearing how strained relations are between us. Someone is bullshiting, and why?
I think the sanctions are on particular industries. Most food companies have have manufacturing and packaging plants in every country instead of importing the products from the home country of the company. If the US sanctioned Russia to prevent them purchasing these products then it would hurt the American companies.
the russian mostly dont buy food from europe russia either makes a lets be honest low quality version of European cheeses and stuff like that or they buy from Europe
@@danieljhalab6775 Now almost all cheese is only Russian made. Russia counter sanctioned some industries and one of them was dairy. Now Russia no longer imports cheese.

Most people associate vodka with Russians but Vodka’s birth place is Poland 🇵🇱
It's interesting. You are right, we all assume that it is Russian.
This was awesome. Super cool drinking culture man i love it. 🙌 such healthy drinking food. Cheers

Koreans are kinda like that I am the same too gotta nibble on stuff whilst drinking
Wow! Cool. What kind of foods do you nibble on?
They give you the caviar at checkout because they don't want someone changing their mind and just leaving it out on a shelf to go bad.
Jonah Miller wow! I didn’t know that! Why do they have electronic tags on them then? I presumed it was Incase people stole it.
