Hello! You can check out my two propagation videos here: - How to Propagate Bonsai Cuttings in 5 Minutes: ua-cam.com/video/ZxivvwyQbvU/v-deo.html - Propagation Forest: ua-cam.com/video/KcNxMskN85Y/v-deo.html
I like several aspects you covered in this video. I note you kept as many fibrous as you could when downsizing the container. This is something I learned the hard way. Now, could you cover promoting fibrous roots, when you have lots of large-medium sized roots, but minimal fibrous ones when trying to downsize the container. Thank you. Look forward to followup video updates on this one.
Fibrous roots grow from the ends of the roots you cut…so it is just a matter of patience to let the tree grow. If you really worry about it, you can add coarse sand to encourage roots to branch. The point I made is it is ok to repot at just about any time of the year, if you retain a balance of root loss with reduction of branches…and keep the tree in shade until it recovers…to avoid drying out.
Thats an interesting technique for me to consider. Breaking it off and creating that dead wood. I'm just starting a more drastic approach. I trunk chopped one of trees and it worked perfectly.. But its already almost as tall. I think I'll have to just chop it again higher up because I know my break wont go as nicely as yours. My new more drastic approach started when birds toppled a plant. It was a nice tree in the making. But with the damage it forced my hand and now I think its onto a higher level
Thank you for the abundance of knowledge that you share, it is greatly appreciated. When cutting a yard maple tree to convert to bonsai, do you have to have a branch just below the cut for it to survive or can you chop it to roughly the height of the envisioned tree and it will sprout new shoots? Thank you for your time. Keep up the great work.
I would really like to see how you scarred the bark above the root that you wanted to get rid of. Did you also scar the bark underneath the dirt so as to girdle the root?
Thanks for showing us how you potted and pruned your tree.. It sure looks different in the pot! I've taken a pot full of Trident Maple cuttings today, the way you showed in another video. I think they should be hard enough by now (I hope!)
Google to see if you can find "acer buergerianum spp. formosanum". You can also sort through seedlings at sales to look for ones with thicker leaves which are usually more gloasy. There is a fair amount of cross pollination between spp after so many decades here in America. ===
I hope this question comes across in a good way, how much of this applies trees growing in my yard? I want this style tree growing along my driveway… and of course a few growing in a pot
🥰🥰✂️Rutherford tree very biggest turning small very much cutting ruts out large rut biggest was getting bodyguard tree ok thank you for good advice kupchak 🥰🥰
Going to be a special maple in a few years. Thanks for letting us see how you will create a great bonsai.
Thanks for the kind words! I will keep you all updated on the progress of this tree!
I would love to see a future video of you propagating these trident maple cuttings.

Don't be afraid to make drastic moves with your bonsai! It sounds like your design is going well! Keep us updated :)
Dear Milton. Thank you for this video. Loved it, very helpful. 🙏🙏

Yes, the pot really pulls the vision together! Great, I hope your cuttings root well!
Have you tried growing the big root cuttings? Thanks cheers from Ojai California
I don't believe root cutting works for Trident.
Hedge maple grows well from root cuttings
Can you find Formosa trident maple in California?
Very nice video, the camera it’s getting better❤

Thanks! I don’t find them readily. I started them from seeds, and then I propagated the cuttings to grow more.
Fascinating video Milton. Do you intend using all the branches in the final design, or are some of them "sacrificial"?
I intend to use all of the branches grown from the branches I left…some I might make into jin as sacrificial branches.
@@bonsaiheirloom Ah, I see. I was curious because all the barnches were roughly the same distance up the trunk.
Do you leave your potted trees out year round?

Of coruse...mot bonsai matrial in landscape can...please refer to myother videos on converting garden trees, yardori, or collected trees
Im surprised you started on the bottom instead of the apex this time
I always work on thr roots the first time
Start with apex subsequently
👍👌🙂
