Foodie Friday: Chef G. Garvin Gives White Fish a Delicious Kick

  • Chef G. Garvin, who has helped launch multiple restaurants and whipped up dishes for stars including former president Bill Clinton to Halle Berry, joined “Start Your Day” guest hosts Shannon LaNier and Bofta Yimam for Foodie Friday.
    Garvin prepared Alaskan halibut with red pepper and crispy Brussel sprouts. The seasonings and toppings used for the dishes included salt, pepper, white potato puree and a homemade hot sauce.
    A wearer of many hats, Garvin is an author, consultant and also the man behind a culinary boot camp for individuals aged 16 to 19. He shared with LaNier that he discovered his boot camp saves lives because a lot of kids don’t have after school programs and aren’t involved in athletics. It was created so kids would not only have somewhere to go, but have the chance to learn to cook and the business of food. “I love that you’re encouraging them to explore things that they may not be exposed to,” said Yimam. On his upcoming book “Everyday American Southern”, Garvin said it is a “cookbook that speaks to what you do here in the South and across the country with fresh ingredients.”
